He's a risk no doubt. Cavani is a better player than Higuain in my view. He has more to his game apart from goalscoring. His effort and mentality is much better for starters.
Cavani lost his place because Icardi joined who is in his peak and attitude aside probably among the best 5 strikers in world football. No one is thinking Cavani will save us alone but he'll be good support for Tammy and a big improvment over Michy.

And make no mistake I don't think we're expecting Frank to be Fergie after 18 months as a manager.
I imagine it has also been an adjustment for many coming from 3 seasons of Italian automations where football is played like chess to more individual judgements. That said, there have been some huge challenges that have dogged us all season:
    1. Reliance on Tammy for goals
    2. Vulnerability on the counter due to inconsistent pressing and having a footballing equivalent of a tortoise trying to mop up in behind.
    3. An inability to deal with defensive set plays.
Some of those issues are squad based, but they have been obvious to anyone who watches us the whole year. I haven't at any stage seen a different approach. I'd like to see that at some stage.

No need to celebrate but no need for hysteria. We're still 4th by 6 points. There are problems that we're all aware of. Hopefully we can now kick ourselves into gear in the transfer market.

Disappointing result. To win the lead back and then lose it again speaks to our struggles and mentality. Looking at that game we've become Arsenal. Tippy tapping around the edges with no end product.
In positive news I though CHO looked most dangerous.  He and Dave were the ones who looked most likely.

We're still fourth, so I can only try and imagine how poor the Premier League has become. We've got an awful squad, worst since the 80's (and yet nowhere near as likeable as they were) and we've got a club legend at the helm who appears to have the managerial skills of a Sunday league coach, or John Hollins.
But hey ho, they're all on a hundred grand a week and I've got to get up and go to work at 6:30 tomorrow.

This is lazy right now. We're not pressing and going through the motions with the ball. We need to press our advantage. We're letting them have the ball.

Granted none of them seem to have Carlo's Italian good looks so that might not bode well for them with you...

I like Giroud and think he should have played more. That said Frank doesn't fancy him either due to lack of mobility or the fact he isn't a big goal scorer.
Cavani is nothing if not a goalscorer who still scored 28 goals last season before the arrival of Icardi. He has always been a hard worker and good presser. Which I think is critical for us.
Looking at the other options who might be available in January such as Piatek, Dembele. I think he is a better player still at 32. I'm also not convinced he'll be blocking us from signing perfect striking solution in the summer because it doesn't exist. Werner who you and I have discussed has his challenges and others such as Osimhen are perhaps still a bit unproven.
Critical difference between other old strikers we've purchased is that we're not asking him to be the talisman. Merely to play a role with Tammy. I think Cavani can do that for at least two seasons from what I've seen of him in the last 12 months.
This is all assuming he is interested of course!

Common denominator is a keeper who doesn't come for crosses or dominate the box.

It's a fair point. For me Kante isn't the guy you want pressing high. He is the guy you want mopping up behind if the press is beaten. That is what made him PFA player of the year, world cup and multiple PL winner.
The truth is he is playing where he is to try and fit Jorginho in who requires the whole midfield to be built around him to work. Yes he is good with the ball but at some stage we will have to face facts that when you press high in the PL you can't have a defensive midfielder who is slow behind them. It just doesn't work. I like Jorginho as a player same as I liked Cesc but it's very hard to fit in a slow midfielder if you're going to press as we do.
Far better in my view to play Kante in his role and let Kovacic and Mount and RLC and perhaps even a new midfielder do the pressing and the creativity.

I reckon you're right. I said in another thread that the more I watch him he reminds me of his Uncle's style. Give freedom to his players and if they are good enough we'll win.
Now of course we are an in between team where he hasn't had a real chance to influence the squad yet but I think some of his own inexperience is shining through right now.

Agreed. That said, the point of being a keeper at a top club is when the moment arrives you make the save. The differences at this level are very small between first and last. For Kepa to have suuuuch a low save percentage (15th in the PL) is not good enough. The only thing elite about him is the price we paid.

Seems strange. He has played so well so far. I think he is perhaps a victim of Mount and Kante's superior pressing ability and energy.

No doubt Rudiger shares a lot of the blame. For me the problem is that the ball is coming towards him and he has ages of time to come and even punch. He just stays anchored to his line. It's not the only problem with our defence but it's a serious one that should be remedied in the summer

Hahaha that could say more for the fact I haven't updated my profile picture in 7 and a bit years!
Even that night I remember abusing him for not being behind the ball in the last few seconds (not forgetting the Iniesta disaster a few seasons before), all of a sudden the ball broke to him with only Valdes in front...

Says how little he understood about English football. Although to be fair he has to put up with Sczesny now so with any luck he might want to take Kepa to Juve!
He's a rocks amd diamonds keeper. Pulls of these amazing reflex saves that makes everyone forget that he concedes easy goals from crosses and corners. His numbers have been in the bottom 5 keepers in the Premier League both seasons he has been here too.
I think he could surpass Torres as our worst ever value signing at this rate.

Anchored to his line as usual. 70m pounds we paid! From Cech and Courtois to that and in a season where Alisson moved and we didn't even make a bid!
But he's good at passing though!
