Last season when we went behind by two or three we knew there was no way back.

There is no doubt that we were terrible in that first half but even then we should have been closer to then in terms of not being three down. But we were three down
Heads didn’t go down and in any league, against any opponents to pullback from a three goal deficit rarely happens. Indeed in the PL it hasn’t happened in 11 years till yesterday.
Thiago Silva is still very much in pre season, Willy bless him is not a PL keeper .Marcus Alonso can’t defend add to that he makes far too many mistakes then the two CB have to not just anticipate his miss passes but his compensate for his poor positional play. Reece is still raw and needs to be talked too more as the game goes on.

So of course I shake my head about the mistakes but we are still a way away from having anywhere near our first choice 11 and I can’t but help all the speculation around Kepa, Rudiger, Alonso, Kante, Gorgino, Emerson, is disruptive and the sooner the transfer window closes and we get the new signings integrated the better

Marina is clearly a very intelligent and extremely competent operative. How she looks is of no matter but she is who she is.

My wife made a very interesting comment the other day concerning the colour of players skins. She said that gone are the days when she even noticed what colour they were they are footballers and in a way that’s exactly how we should be looking at Marina.  No not as a footballers but someone who clearly is at the top of their game and their looks, their sex, etc etc is not relevant or something you should use to measure them.

    Here ends the first lesson.

I actually saw him play whilst I can’t be 100% I am pretty sure it was for Chelmsford City against Weymouth in May 1977 a game Chelmsford City lost 3-1.

In that era many many of the all time greats dropped down through the leagues indeed playing for Weymouth was Jeff Astle.
It also worked the other way is many non league players were transferred to top clubs. At Weymouth the likes of Andy Townsend, Graham Roberts all started off in non league as did a GK who featured in the game a chap called Bob Iles who was sold by Weymouth to Chelsea in May 1978 for £10k

    Here’s a thought for you

The transfer cost of the 13 players who played in yesterday’s game was £  219 million. The 14 Spurs players cost £ 284.4 million.

This is very much the point..

When Arsenal embarked on their rebuild match day receipts were very much the highest of the income streams but commercial and indeed TV monies now are the top two money makers
Its  impossible to know if Arsenal would have been more successful since their rebuild but repayment of interest and capital payable more than accounts for the extra gate receipts. When you factor in that most replica shirt sales etc aren’t sold to match going supporters then it gets harder to justify the monies required to add capacity

When you factor in their Business Rates are in excess of £3 million ( ours are around £1.25) and they pay far more security, insurance, utilities etc than we do then the financial justification is not so clear cut.
Take a look at clubs in the England that have self financed a full stadium re build. Rarely does it work out .

Sometimes the add ons or benefits are worth more.

For instance as part of the deal 3 have agreed that Yokohama remain a significant commercial partner not something that happens save on rare occasions in addition 3 are installing infrastructure not just restricted to mobile technology.Whats that worth?
Irrespective when these type of deals are announced rarely does the value of the package get put in the public domain. Often when it does we are told what it could be worth not what is actually paid.
Take a look at the Utd  deal with Chevrolet . Failure to qualify for the CL made a huge dent in the sum paid.

In other cases the parties have agreed that the decision be announced  before written reasons published .
A good example is the Real Madrid case.
They made an application for what’s called an “Expedited Procedure “ Their appeal was then heard by a sole arbitrator on the 14th December 2016. CAS notified all parties of its decision on 20/12/2016.

From what little has been put in the public domain the main thrust of the problem revolves around players who participated in trial matches or extended periods of trials.
FIFA now believe that playing in “organised games” counts as signing a player. In effect they believe if you play a non EU player under the age of 18 in say a summer youth tournament or have them stay over for a period of say 6 weeks for a trial that player has in effect signed for you. It’s why so many cases were looked into by FIFA.
From what I can gather one of the  “proven “ charges was Bernard Tarore , it’s worth noting he had no association with any club in his native country is effect he wasn’t registered as a player anywhere prior to signing with us
He  didn’t sign on a contract until after he turned 18 but it seems when we bought him and his family over to England wepaid for his education & played him in several trial matches.I haven't seen it in writing but my take on it is that the FA sanctioned the games he played in hence why the FA were also slapped on the wrist.
The trouble with FIFAs regulations are they are clear as mud and time after have to time they have to issue clarification and the further clarification and so on.

Can understand that point if view but for me it’s a double edged sword in that if you have an experienced  number two there seems an almost obligation to play then in say FA cup and CC games yet very very few goalkeepers need to be rested.
I haven’t the time to go through the stats but I would be interested to know how many games have been missed  through injury by GKs in the PL in the last say 5 years.
I understand the risk but just like say a midfielder you need a pathway through from the academy to the first team squad for as we seen fees paid for GKs has gone mad and how much do you need to invest on a back up ?

The point I was trying to make is that that is one hellava expensive back four and yet we created chances on anther day one or two probably would have gone in. If we weren’t chasing the game so hard then we wouldn’t have to  had push the midfield so  far up and probably goals two, three and four wouldn’t have come about. Man Utd are all about counter attacking and had we had a screen in front of our back four then it could and probably would have been a different game.

    Right, here goes.
First and foremost I must admit I am bitterly disappointed with the result.
I was nervous before the game, seeing us like up with the likes of Mount & Abraham for United away is unchartered territory. I was worried we would concede early and get wiped out in a men against boys sort of way.
I was pleasantly surprised though. We undoubtedly started the better team, and despite being guilty of creating our own problems with sloppy mistakes, we were playing the more fluid football, and edging every department. It was anything but men against boys.  Impressive at Old Trafford, however poor they may be, they have just spent circa £150 in the transfer window.
Then the penalty. Always been a fan of Zouma, but this was a disaster class performance.
We seemed a little rattled after the goal, but fight our way back into the game and by the start of the second half we were once again the team dominating possession & territory. Let’s not pretend we were hammering the door down, but once again we were edging it against United at Old Trafford. That’s where I can take positives.
Obviously the mistakes that gifted the United goals from this point are now well documented, and the naivety of how we played into their hands is something we have to work on fast. Kante and Ruidiger coming back into the side will make a lot of difference.
In the end we must concede we were well beaten, but the score line undoubtedly flatters United. They avoided conceding by the finest of margins, twice, and we gifted them the all important opening penalty. There is the question mark over the foul on Abraham for the second which changed the dynamic of the game, but to be honest it was just one of those days were everything seemed to go their way. It happens sometimes, I am just gutted it happened on Franks debut.
I think there are positives to take; Mount being one, but we need Kante, Ruidiger, Hudson-Odoi and James in the starting 11 as soon as possible.
This was always going to be a hard season, and it might well get worse before it gets better, but I am still fully on board and I can genuinely see what Frank is trying to do, and I like it.

There are lots of things I will miss about Luiz but defending isn’t  one of them.
Focus in the fact that other than wages nett  he hasn’t cost a £1 in transfer fees and selling a player who quite possibly has been told that he didn’t feature in the managers plans or at least as a starter was never going to be well received by the player.
The average age of our squad has dropped like a stone. This season is all about promoting academy players, change and long term planning and the major part of that has to be all about moving players who are likely to block youngsters progress add to that Saris style of play isn’t how Frank seems is going to set us up and then it’s essay to see why he is on his way.
I won’t boo him, I never boo at football he has moved on and so must we.

I don't mind Zappa at all. He's really not that bad. In fact, going forward, he's a lot better than Dave. We'd be selling him in order to promote James, not because he's a bad player. He's a perfectly good back-up RB, that injects a bit of energy into the team. He's always given it his all and if he goes I wish him well.
