Ben reacted to Celery1989 in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
One of Torres' better efforts, unlucky not to score today. It's still painfully clear that we are a Falcao away from being a genuine title contender.

for all who are going to abuse Torres for not scoring again, Sturridge was & has been much worse when playing this season, he's got a terrible 1st touch. I'm no Torres fan & think we need a new addition (or 2) in jan, but he's the best option we have out of the 2.
Personally I would try Moses there.

We just have to get used to it - this thread is pointless.
Anyone can see Torres is not the player Liverpool had in his prime.
We were mugged for 50 million end of.

what bothers me is that he just seems to have no passion even when Sheva was struggling you could see he was clearly trying but it doesn't come off. I have a theory that maybe the use of a false 9 by Spain might have impacted his overall play. Yes that one where they seem to pass the ball around and just don't seem to shoot.

TOrres + 25m for Falcao would be fine by me.

There is surely no question anymore about us bringing in a striker in January if we can get one of sufficient quality. I think the only real question is whether we bring in one and keep Torres or bring in two and let Torres go at a massive financial loss.
I can't see that bringing in one and relegating Torres to the bench is going to improve Torres's game and so the other option would appear the more likely one.
Even the most ardent Torres backer must surely admit it is over now. He is nowhere near good enough for any team with genuine title ambitions and I just can't see how anyone can still believe he will ever get back to anything like his best. It is a transfer that sadly hasn't worked out and cutting losses is becoming more and more inevitable (and also the right thing to do).

It is bullsh*t, the non-delusional fans can see that neither Torres or Sturridge are perfect for that role. Torres works harder for the team, but Sturridge is more of a threat when through on goal.

As I have stated previously...unless he turns things around within the next few weeks he will be gone in January..probably back to Spain..but no worries Roman's got his cash back at least twice over with the merchandise...Alice bands must have been selling for at least a tenner?

i find it very funny how people defending torres bring up the "dont let his past or £50million price tag cloud your judgement" argument
on the contrary, those are PRECISELY the two things keeping him in a chelsea line up.
based on his chelsea career alone and nothing else this lad would not still be starting for us and the only reasons he is is because the board/fans are hoping he can rekindle his glory days and in hope that £50mill wasnt spent on feck all. think about it.

Torres was once again his usual self today giving another underwhelming performance: He lost the ball numerous times and, aside from the odd moment here and there, barely threatened the opposition's goal. Ok, he worked quite hard at times and his link up play was decent, but I'm sorry that's simply not good enough for a player that cost £50 million. Granted, Torres' performance levels are better now than they were last season but IMO he's just not good enough in every sense.

That was a joke of a decision. So Evans is allowed to kung fu kick drogba in the chest, drogba gets booked. Takes torres down charging through on goal, torres booked.
We can buy Falcao or whoever else but im sensing a bit of a pattern here

I disagree with that Drogba, Zola & Crespo were all world class. Different players all of them, but by far the most important was Drogba. Crespo was prob the closest to Torres out of the 3.

Break the bank for Oscar's mate, Leandro Dameoa. Luiz, Rambo and Oscar will make his transition easier. The guys an ox and because he is young he could be the perfect backup for Nando.

No interest in Ba. People jumped all over Torres when he walked down the tunnel after being subbed, but Ba creates a fuss anytime he's played out of position or doesn't start. He's a good player, but his injury record is atrocious and it's only a matter of time before he gets seriously injured again.

I'm with you. Moses has done well so far. Hulk would also cost a fortune, though if the problems remain he could cost less now than when we tried to get him.
Still, we have good players in that position, so why spend loads of money on him? I'd rather take Cavani.

No for me, we have done good in the recent window and I would rather see Moses get a chance than sign hulk.

Let's be honest with ourselves, he'll never be the player he was at Liverpool, it's quite clear now.
At first, it was £50m price tag, that put him under huge pressure and wouldn't let him do what he was brought here for. Then it was lack of service, the team wasn't playing to his strengths. Then it was Drogba's big shadow that wouldn't allow him to come out of his shell, they'd say he needs to be "the man".
It's a few months short of two years since Fernando has arrived and he still looks lost. Only the most blind optimist can still maintain it's not his fault. Like Burt Reynolds said in Boogie Nights ":If it looks like sh*t and sounds like sh*t, then it must be sh*t." It's not the team, it's not the fee, it's not Drogba or lack of service. It's him.
The causes for that sad turn of fate could be various but the most obvious is the combination of injuries that robbed him of his mobility before he even got to CFC and a tough case of confidence shot to hell. I remember that Torres from years ago that used to tear our defense apart and it's evident that that Torres isn't there anymore.
It's irritating to watch him fall over at every contact and moan at the referees for help, or running into blind alleys and lose the ball time and time again. Walking down the tunnel at QPR after being subbed instead of joining others on the bench was absolutely infuriating. After all the support from the club, three different managers and fans with seemingly endless patience he has the cheek to throw his toys out of the pram after being substituted at the end of what looked like another failure of a performance.
Now, mind you, I'm not saying he isn't trying, in fact at times he looks like he's trying too hard. The point is, it's not working and we've waited long enough to erase any doubt. I don't know whether Sturridge has it him to be come our new target man upfront, but I'm fully convinced now Torres will never be that.

see how much they offer, then sell him for less to another club.

So Daniele De Rossi has admitted some English clubs are after him and he likes English football very much. Yes please.
