  1. Newcastle is possibly the biggest club he’s managed, I don’t know his salary but I’ve always seen him as a cheaper version of big Sam. He’s not remarkable but he’s solid and a smaller team stand a chance of staying up with him at the helm. A win rate of 28% on average gets 32 points a season without any draws boosting the points which will often keep a club up. In the premiership he’s managed Birmingham, Wigan, Sunderland, Hull and Newcastle. Out of those teams I think only Newcastle and Sunderland would want more than staying up so even though he’s not an elite manager he’s proven in giving teams a fighting chance
  2. It’s a great problem to have trying to work out how to get the best out of havertz. If Chelsea find a way of having Mount havertz Werner and lukaku all starting then I really believe we’ll see the best of havertz. This is where I see rice being key to this. At the minute if it’s Werner havertz and lukaku as the front three then the midfield seems detached from the attack without Mount. If Werner is replaced with Mount then Werners ability to stretch the play and create space for havertz and Mount is lost. And we saw last season that without lukaku in the team there wasn’t that focal point and clinical edge that he brings. Havertz is strange because out of the four he is the most talented and has the best chance of creating something out of nothing but is the odd one out where if he’s not in the team the team becomes unbalanced. This is without mentioning Ziyech, Pulisic and Hudson Odoi. I think if Chelsea got Declan Rice then it would bring out the best for havertz and Chelsea. I heard somewhere that West Ham are of the opinion that not only is rice their best midfielder but he’s also their best centre back. If Rice came in and played in defensive midfield with two of Mount, kovacic, kante loftus cheek and maybe Jorginho as 8s in front means that it could be a midfield 3 and a back 4 or a back 3 with a double pivot or even a 4-2-3-1 depending on the phase of play. Jorginho and Chalobah could also play as that position as a mix of cdm and centre back. Mount would be key in linking midfield to attack but hasn’t looked defensively sound as a midfield pivot. The only problem with buying rice is with our current midfield it would he very harsh dropping 2 of Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante. havertz and Werner supporting lukaku with Mount linking midfield to attack and Hudson odoi pulisic and ziyech all coming in would be very good going forwards. It’s very easy to play football manager I guess but for me signing rice would solve a lot of Chelsea’s problems and unleash havertz mercurial talent
  3. One of Norwich’s key players last season was a lad on loan from Tottenham who is similar to Gilmour in playing style so the loan made sense in the summer. However Norwich in the championship and Norwich in the premiership are two different kettles of fish. He’s a quality player though and there’s still time for him yet.
  4. Great player not sure he’s worth 100mil though. If we can’t get a striker then grealish Mount havertz and Werner all moving about would be good to watch not sure if there would be enough goals and how defensively secure we’d be though. if city are spending 100 mil on him then good luck to them.
  5. It’s only really set pieces where height might be an issue. In the premiership strikers are getting shorter as well as wingers being more inverted so don’t whip crosses in anymore. From what I’ve seen of Kounde he’s got great anticipation and reading of the game and whilst not tall he has a great leap. Football is played a lot more on the ground these days and he’s very good at defending. Whilst I haven’t seen loads of him, he went to the euros over upamacano and Liverpool’s new signing. my final point is height in cbs isn’t all that matters Carvalho wasn’t dominant aerially (6”0) but strikers knew they weren’t going to get an easy day against him. Cannavaro was 5”9, Puyol was 5”10, Sergio Ramos is 6”0, Desailly was 6”0 I know not all of them didn’t play in England but the quality isn’t in doubt
  6. I really want Rice, if we get him then we can go to a back four with him sitting in front of it and dropping into the middle of the defenders when needed with kante doing what he does best. Will provide a lot of balance and steel in midfield.
  7. Kounde has a great leap and doesn’t get beaten in the air much whenever I have seen him play. Obviously it helps being tall but timing of the jump and positioning is just as important as height. Tim Cahill is a great example of this
  8. Oh definitely! There was a time when I thought he could be a yaya toure in midfield for us. His injuries did stop him in his tracks
  9. If we get hakimi, rice and haaland then the formation will look like it’s 343 but might actually be more like a 4-4-2 hakimi right midfield Mount left midfield with haaland up front with either Werner or havertz and James would be a right back. All ifs buts and maybes but it would certainly be flexible
  10. I think he has a lot of good attributes but nothing special. He’s quick across the ground when he builds up speed but not explosive acceleration and not world class delivery so isn’t suited to a winger. Got decent passing but not mobile enough to be a central midfielder. Hasn’t got the killer instinct of a striker even though he’s a decent finisher. He hasn’t got the defensive ability to play defensive midfielder either. He’s a very good footballer but hasn’t got stand out attributes to nail a position. I’d say going forward he either needs to reimagine himself to be a deep lying playmaker or a false 9 like havertz has been used
  11. I think it’s an American phrase. Big game player essentially
  12. Yes, Dave was stupid but greilish should have been in the book for 2 fouls previous to this. Referee played on with both tackles and didn’t pull him back. If he had have been booked he wouldn’t have made the tackle so Dave wouldn’t have been in that position. The other thing is that greilish positioned himself so Dave couldn’t get up and take the free kick, he was just pushing him off. It was as a result of bad refereeing
  13. If the front line needs looking at and we can’t get haaland or Kane I’d prefer to get rid of ziyech and get either sancho or Martinez in and play havertz as a number 9. We’d need a centre back and a holding midfielder as well but if we went with a back four and played holding midfielder kante/kovacic mount/Gallagher sancho/Hudson Odoi werner/pulisic havertz I can see it being similar to Man City this season where we don’t have a focal point who will score all the goals but 3 or 4 players who can score 10-15 goals each. Maybe a less high profile striker can come in as well but I can see every player getting a lot of games but a strong group for injuries in there.
  14. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, I actually like him but as the deepest midfielder the fact that they lost the game kind of makes my point. On the ball as a recycler he’s brilliant but he has flaws defensively. Makelele and Busquets are brilliant examples of this. Good on the ball great football intelligence and defensively brilliant in they protect the defence out of possession. I also find your kepa comment funny, not a dig at you by the way, as he was himself approved by sarri as he was good with the ball at his feet and would allow us to play out from the back, even though his primary function as a goalkeeper is lacking.
  15. I really rate him too and if we didn’t have Werner then I’d prefer Martinez out of the two of them. Despite Werners struggles though he’s still a good player and I think he still very much has a place in the team.
  16. When he’s good he’s very good, when he’s bad he’s appalling. I think he relies on others a lot too, in the champions league run kante was a monster and as a result gave Jorginho space, options and time. Against Villa him and kovacic gave each other none of those things. It’s a similar story when he plays for Italy barella and verratti give him those three things. When they are stripped from him he struggles. It’s something he’ll never be able to do but he’ll never be able to recover from a mistake so when he makes them it’s bad. Mikel played a similar way to him but he could allow himself time due to his size.
  17. I don’t know too much either, the champions league games I saw (Juventus and us) chancel mbemba, formally of Newcastle I think, was preferred at CB to him. However Pepe plays lcb and with Sarr being left footed this may be the reason. I appreciate it’s not really a legitimate concern but it still worries me.
  18. Great striker but in the timo mould IMO, if we didn’t have Werner then it would make a lot more sense. I guess it all depends on systems. If we played with a diamond with 2 up top then havertz Martinez and Timo would work well all moving about the front line. But with a back three you would be putting Mount in a midfield two or dropping him or havertz. He’s not a striker but someone which makes perfect sense to me is Rice, rumours were that Lampard had eyes on converting him into a cb and whilst I wouldn’t do that; if we went to a back four with him at the base of midfield then without possession then he could drop between the two centre backs in a sort of hybrid system.
  19. Only seems sensible if a marquee striker doesn’t come in and Chelsea play with Mount in a midfield three. There’s a lot of ifs and buts there but having Werner, Sancho, pulisic and Hudson odoi as the options on the wings looks exciting it’s whether you can keep them all happy
  20. If we’re to sign a midfielder I would want a defensive dominating midfielder like rice or locatelli. Verratti is quality but similar to kova and Gilmour who we already own. I guess it depends on formations next season but if it’s a midfield 2 and we sign rice then we have kante, rice, kova and Gilmour and that’s if Jorginho does leave which is more balanced than signing verratti.
  21. I’d much rather gravenberch from Ajax than this guy got more pace from what I’ve seen
  22. Haven’t seen a lot of him admittedly but haalands replacement at rb Salzburg is a player called Daka. His numbers this season (I know it’s not a strong league) are frightening, 5 assists and 23 goals in 19 appearances. He’s 22 years old as well
  23. Back 3 back 4 it doesn’t really matter if azpi of James is the rcb. I think tuchel has done very well selecting a couple of key players that can play different positions so he can switch the formation mid game. It’s more obvious when James is at “wingback” but the atletico game for example with Hudson odoi as a wing back at times looked like we were playing 4-2-3-1.
  24. I couldn’t work out whether or not I was impressed, he seemed to dominate midfield and look awkward at the same time. I thought he was man of the match but he’s not someone I’d get excited over signing.
  25. If, and I know it’s a big if, Werner starts taking his chances he would be getting those numbers. If we carry on with this formation then pulisic, Hudson odoi and Mount have the potential to be a player who could hit near those numbers but if he goes 4-3-3 and has Mount as another midfielder just ahead of kovacic and Jorginho then he could pitch in with a few goals. I also think that havertz can get a few more goals than firmino does for Liverpool.
