Ok, so we used to wave 'loadsamoney' at away games in our first year of Roman's leadership but this was a bit rich coming from a lifelong City fan I met today.

I quickly reminded him that his team will always live in the shadow of their Manchester rivals, whoever they buy or whatever they win in the next two or three years.

I also pointed out that we are now regarded as the biggest team in London, both in recent history and to Europe as a whole and rightfully regarded to any player in the World as the best team currently in the Premiership.

I'm not denying, City's fans deserve success, the are one of the most loyal around, but to shout about before they have actually won anything or even reached a major final is asking for trouble, if that gets through to their management or players they are on another hiding to nothing. Pressure comes with money and boy have we suffered yet delivered on that score - as I rammed that home.

Pointing out the last time they went head to head with us on a player in Robinho, he celebrated in front of our fans and we then dicked them in their own backyard!

Back came another 'Well we done the double over you last season' to which I replied ... "Yeah but who won the 'kin double!"

Only Tevez would get a sniff of our starting eleven as it stands, Silva would make a Joe Cole type contribution in Carlo's eyes, as for the rest not a chance.

A Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Essien - I see not, a class keeper in Given with a back up in Joe Hart maybe stronger in depth than ourselves, but that's about it.

They are not far off from being title challengers, but if the scraps are what's left i'm happy.

Had they busted the bank to sign Schweinsteiger, Ozil and Aquero i'd be worried, Milner and co. in the pipeline is hardly inspiring!

I think you raise an interesting point there, I think City have some real quality players and amazing squad depth - but like you said Tevez is pretty much the only one that'd be in with a real good chance of being a regular starter. I think as you mentioned Silva too, also Adam Johnson... but three of 11 (and two of those still having question marks over them) says a lot.

All fans deserve some bit of sucsees but as we all know chelsea have been winning trophys in each of the last 3 decades. when roman came in chelsea where playing champions leauge,we bought players that where never really heard of.we bought robben, cech, essien players like that. city or bidding for everyone annd people are statring to laugh. we have our own groung as far as i know city don't own eastlands. we won the leauge in romans second season and never looked back. blue moon your still going to be standing alone come may. i hope lol.

Good thread! Yes, they have great individuals and more than likely will get some more before August is over. Can someone tell me though, who has the passion, commitment and drive in this team to push for that success? For the life of me I can't find any 'real leaders' in there that would die for their club. All I see is already established, imported (dare I say foreign) footballing stars. Granted we did splash the cash when Roman pitched up but we had a core of great team players that gave their all........and we still have em!

Was in the papers today that they had a first team squad of 37 or something and they've got to cut it down to 25. Yes, they will win something in the next few years, but the cost long term will be interesting to watch. What's going to happen when the owners get bored if they don't win anything, Manchester City will go down the pan, which I don't really want to see as they've got a good history and loyal fans.

they got rid of the best leader they had,and he came through the ranks richard dunne. i heard there getting rid of richards aswell another youth product. city ussed to have a very good youth system but it looks like thats going to suffer. yaya toure said he always wanted to play for city have you ever heard such rubbish. to be honest every year i lose another bit of interest in football. I dont lose the interest in chelsea just world football, when you see the familys and individuals finding it so hard in the resesion it makes you sick when your here what footballers or earning for something that any football fan would do for free, its not the players faults its just the way it is. i always liked city after all they are the real manchester club and yes they do have history but ever club does, they have loyal fans, had great gets when the went down, but if im honest i hope they faill so we can all have a giggle because if roman and chelsea failed you can bet your life city would laugh at us.

That is true, but at the same time I am worried. The spine of our team that you mention is pretty much at the latter stages of it's effictiveness. Hopefully Essien still has a good few seasons in him, but realistically, I am not sure how long JT, Lamps and Drogba will be able to perform at the top level and that coincides with Man City having sh*t loads of cash to sign some top, top players. These things always go in cycles, so perhaps Man City's time is coming up?

You would expect a number of Northern Monkeys giving it large, but to be fair, on the whole, the City fans I have spoken to or heard, are pretty much level headed and aren't getting too carried away. Like us, they have seen so many false dawns and been through a lot more bad times than good and at this stage most would be over the moon with a top four spot and one of the domestic cups.

Yeh agree i'm a bit worried, a Silva-AJohnson-Kompany-Milner-Tevez are a good core group of young players who should see City through for the next 5-6 years. On top of that they have Boateng/Koralov/Touresx2/adebayor/dejong making them a very formidable team this season.

Mancini is a good coach, if the team can create some sort of chemistry, they can go very far this season

imo there are some similarities to when roman turned up with his money and intent.back then,it was arsenal, liverpool and man utd fans who were obviously rattled big-time by his arrival, partly i believe because it was unprecedented, but also deep down(although you wouldnt have thought so at the time)those rival fans knew that the status quo was about to be altered.in fact the gooners have still not gotten over it,because we went from being a minor irritant to their betters, and we did that with money(yes, and a great coach!).i read some posts from chelsea fans and you would think that city are busy buying pub league players.like ranieris last season where we werent quite ready, city were well short last season. this year, however with no cl to look forward to,and major signings aplenty it could be their year.i for one wont be writing them or any of our rivals off.

The only reason why city worry me is because they beat us twice last year. They have alot of money, but once a couple of seasons pass their owner will get tired of spending relentlessly just like roman did. nobody likes to throw away money just for the heck of it, no matter how much you have.

The reason Chelsea have been successful is the drive and leadership of Terry and Lampard. All the money in the world will not win you much if you don't have all the parts pulling in the same direction. Part of that is down to the manager, but a lot of that is down to the players and team chemistry. You need leaders on the pitch, leaders who can "dominate" and "organize" egos.

Cheers,

Butch

You're right Lampard and Terry were two top quality players already at the club who were loved by the fans. When you look at the City team noone really stands out in that regard. If I were Mancini I'd be making Tevez captain, he's maybe as close as it gets in that regard, really leads from the front. Toure didn't exactly stamp his authority on Arsenal when he was captain there and I don't think he'll pull all the ego's together at City either.

When people accused us of buying the league a few years back i told them money does'nt buy anything other than good players. Man C have a squad packed full of good players now and have as much chance as anybody else IMO.

I think they will be 1 of our challengers this year for sure, and i welcome them to the table mainly because i cant really stand Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal fans who think its thier god given right to be winning trophies every year.

If we dont win something i'd at this moment rather they did.

Let thier fans have some success, its been long enough and they've had enough tough times(like us) to really enjoy any good times they might get. Like i said i'd rather that than some smug Man U fan turning his nose up at winning the Carling Cup.

In saying that with money comes pressure and although money does buy good players it does'nt buy success, if so Newcastle would have won something so too Leeds, Real Madrid would dominate spain and Europe so there are no garuntees.

All it does is make things very exciting up at Middle Eastlands and very interesting for the rest of the league. Somebody is going to challange for our tittle so whether its City or Utd bring it on i say.
