chelseabootboy Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Ok folks i'm sure most of us have played fooball at some level my question is simple what was your fav position and why?? did you have a footballer you modled yourself on? were you a chopper harris (blue beard)? my position is center half, holding midfield. I love a tackle and not bad in air in my early days i used to base my game on dubbery but was fed up scoring own goals so decided it was time for a change lol. myself and scooby blue have played together over the years be it in a park pissed up or in a match, the one funny memory i have is when scoob had the ball skined 3 players tried getting round me, i elbowed him wwf style on the back and the lucky f**ker slipped and shot and buried one from 35 yards ha ha too funny.
dkw Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Always been a Centre back or right back (when I had pace between 18 and 19, didnt last long) and always based my game on David Lee and Clarkey...I actually did quite well and had a season or so with our local semi pro team when I was about 21-22 ish. But in truth wasnt really good enough even for that level, but I played Saturday and Sunday league in our area until only a bout 2 years ago. Knees are buggered now though, maybe I could play as striker and move about as much as Le Tisser used to....
Alex Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Played centre back and holding mid for different teams, but i much prefer right back. Actually got asked on a recent job interview about what position i play in football and said right back, the interviewer asked if i thought i was like gary neville. I replied i saw myself as a more dynamic Jose Bosingwa, to which the interviewer replied i must be "fast and dangerous"
PloKoon13 Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I generally play defensive/centre mid, usually in a Pirlo-style playmaker role though.

If you hadn't have shoved me, it would have ended up in by the corner flag . As you know I play anywhere on the left in general.
dkw Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I generally play defensive/centre mid, usually in a Pirlo-style playmaker role though. Bugger, I compare myself to Clarkey and Lee and you bring in Pirlo, you trying to make me look bad you sod....
Maksimov Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I've been told I'm a poor man's Filippo Inzaghi. I think that says it all really.
chelseabootboy Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 i don't know who i could compare myself in todays game, poyet's talent in the air and a twist of dennis wises..
loz Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Easily my best position is in nets. I was one of those keepers who would throw himself at anything irrespective of how many boots were in the mix but always had a weakness dealing with cross balls - still a good chance I could get a call from Arsenal. I When it comes to kickabouts I play at centre half and barely cross the half way line, largely because it is a long way to run back! Sometimes guilty of some fairly 'crude' tackles.
dkw Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Sometimes guilty of some fairly 'crude' tackles. They are called "industrial" tackles, make sit sound a little more acceptable.
PloKoon13 Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Bugger, I compare myself to Clarkey and Lee and you bring in Pirlo, you trying to make me look bad you sod.... Not at all, I'm very much a "sh*t Pirlo".
BlueBeard Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 were you a chopper harris (blue beard)? How did you guess? When I was young I was a striker, then started playing on the wing, either side. Also played central midfield before emulating my hero Chopper at right-back. Only position I've never played is centre back, even got stuck in goal for a school game once.
Valerie Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 (edited) I've played a few indoor football matches in school as the goalie. Unlike Loz, I was mumbling "Go away, go away" whenever the opponents so much as came out of their penalty area Oh and you asked why? Without me they didn't have enough players and they had to put me somewhere, didn't they! Edited December 4, 2010 by Valerie
bluegraham Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 well i started of as a forward but was asked to play lefted back one d,im right footed so i though oh sh*t but its been my postion ever since. thats 14 years ago now.
Chippy Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I had a brief spell playing in Goal when I was very young but soon started playing up front, I was what they called an inside right when I played between 8 and 17 then I gave it a rest because of Cars and Drag racing but went back to it in my late twenties when they never knew what an inside right was I tried to have a mixture of the attributes of Ian Hutchinson and Charlie Cooke, (I could throw a long way and had a moustache).
Liam Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Oh and you asked why? Without me they didn't have enough players and they had to put me somewhere, didn't they! Funny enough that was why Loz played there too. I played for 25 years and as the years went on the further back I ended up. In my final season I played every match with a handful of my direct opponent's shirt. Rather harshly I feel, it was once said about me that my second touch was a tackle.

Zola Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Left wing or up front. I have always had a really strong left foot (and a poor right). i did do a season as a centre back which I enjoyed but definitely prefer up fron or on the left wing.
PloKoon13 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Rather harshly I feel, it was once said about me that my second touch was a tackle. It's not so bad, Liam. When it comes to other men, I'm not a big fan of foreplay either.
Arq Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I played goalkeeper back in the day. I never modeled myself after anyone, it was just something I latched on to and enjoyed it. I had started at Left Wing. Like Zola, my left is much better than my right and my coaches could never find anyone to fill that void. One time I had to sub for our starting GK at the time and I was deemed a natural so I was kept there. Now I coach GK to the my son's local club. My son is first choice GK and enjoys it a lot. He's been playing in net since he was 4 (he's 9 now). He plays where he's needed, but he loves GK the most. And I always wore #13. It's my lucky number (oldest daughter was born on a Friday the 13th, youngest daughter was born on the 13th minute of the hour... hehe).
Eggy McMuffin Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I'm basically Jamie Carragher on the pitch... I'm not particularly good, in fact many think I'm that bad that I'm better in goal than on pitch... I'm slow, but have a great recovering challenge which makes me look a lot better than I am. I'm a bit of a c**t with the old tap at the ankles and nobody likes playing against me. Luckily I'm less of a c**t when I stop playing, though.... no wonder I can't get a team together, they just don't want to be up against me in training
Virosh Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Onbly two positions on the pitch I've ever played. One is goalie and still my preferred position due to my horrible spacial awareness in passing and the fact that running has never been my forte. The only position in which I've truly excelled, I've always had an eye for tactics and possible dangers and was quite forceful in commanding my area (which has won me more weird looks than praise from my fellow players). Never afraid to put body where it hurts - that has won me one or two direct shots in... sensible areas, shall we say. My balls have been hit, too. The other is centre back. I've always been strong and hard to outmuscle and, surprisingly, not easy to outpace (on short distances). Never one to shy away from a tackle, getting past me in defense was hard, but a combination of poor back-tracking from teammates and bad goalkeeping would regularly undo my efforts. More of an Alex than an Ivanovic, but without the fierce shot. In the same vein, I would occasionally make strides forward and take good positions, mostly in vein. Both of those, of course, are for when I play with my mates. When I'm playing with my cousin's friends (he is 9 right now), I am Messi and Drogba rolled into one.
geezer Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I was a keeper first and foremost but could also play a mean game as a striker which is where I played when I was on Brentfords books for a while. I much preferred to play as a keeper but unfortunately had a major handicap in that I was short sighted! It wasn't too bad initially but gradually began to worsen as I got into my mid teens and I had to give up being a keeper altogether though in recent years I did play for my company as a keeper in their 5-a-side league up until I reached the age of 50. We won promotion in my last season and I'm pretty proud of that given I was easily the oldest player in the league.
mad_mac Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Centre Back or Right Back. usually Centre though. hen I did play as a RB, I usually bombed forward too much, so as health and fitness worsened (I developed Asthma late in life due to hay-fever) I stuck to CB. I'd say, even though I'm older than him, I'm a bit of a JT player. Read the game well (often the guy clearing off the line) and loved a challenge. When Iw as young, I wanted to be like Davey Cooper, or Charlie Cooke
