I know it's still very early to say, but given that the Christmas run in is fast approaching, fixtures will come thick and fast: The players are expected to shine.

Who is your player of the season so far?

You may pick a player for very different reasons, for example; Hilario? Ridiculed if not for his comedy name even before he had kicked a ball, and given a debut against none other than the current European Champs. How well has he done when called upon? Superbly well.

Captain Marvel John Terry? Recently appointed England Captain & one of the foundations upon which our success is built. Has again dragged us through games where muck & bullets can be found.

Ashley? The new boy? Maybe too early to say? Started very quietly, but has since come on leaps and bounds. (Just ask that Winker, Cristiano. He had him in his pocket you know).

'The Bison' Michael Essien? What a player he has been this season! (My pick). The man could just keep running and running and running, whilst also looking like he could bench press Arnie Schwarzenegger. AT THE AGE OF 23! To say he has been industrious would be very modist indeed. (Get's a Gold Star for looking like he has played at Right Back all his life).

Lamps? Has he done enough this season? He certainly has'nt been as formidable in-front of goal compared to previous seasons, but in his defence, he is being asked to do a different job. Still the consumate professional, and a consistent performer. Sometimes i wonder how we would get by without him.

''Didier Drogba LA LA LA LA LA''? Scoring goals for fun this season, and leading the line with pace and power, after ditching his best Swan Lake impressions that we had the displeasure of viewing last season. (Barca game apart). Still the current Premiership joint top goalscorer with 8 this campaign so far, along with valuable european goals to boot.

Finally we are seeing the fruits of our ?24 million labour.

Please feel free to pass comment on anyone that i have inevitably missed out!

I ask the CSR to vote!

At this stage, my vote has to go to Drogs.

JT has been brilliant but it's got to the stage where you kinda take it for granted that he'll always be so. Essien has been good, but for me, there are still many occassions where he doesn't totally dominate games, and at times you forget he's on the pitch. Don't get me wrong, in the games he has played really well, he has been brilliant, but at times I'd just like him to go that bit further and maybe also get on the score sheet more often.

But DD has been a revelation. Lets be honest Sheva has been a huge disappointment up to now and if DD had not stepped up to the plate, we could really be struggling big time.

Early days but my vote would go to Essien, with Drogba a close second :!:

Essien has been Mr Consistency and has come on leaps & bounds from last season, he has also shown his versability playing in Midfield & Defensive positions :!:

Can't argue with any of that!

Essien gets my vote, the guy has been immence since day one, taking most games by the scruff of the kneck, stand out performer in both the barca games...

I agree with the above

Why did you have to call him Cashley? I was one of the firm supporters of not wanting him here, but hes here now and hes done well.

For me, Drogba. Not just for how hes playing but for his new attitude.

Essien for me - he has been the most consistent player by a margin and this is quality that always impresses me in a player (which is Maka has been my choice for player of the season for the past two years)

It could be argued, if I was Star icon_wink.gif , that strikers are judged on goals and goals alone, that is what they are paid to do - if that were the case then you could argue that Drogs has not scored for nearly a month now, that is 5 games without a goal. Hence not as consistent as Essien!

So Essien it is. I say sell Drogs and buy Tevez.

(before I get a stack of responses about Drogba's overall contribution even when not scoring please be very clear I am not being entirely serious!!)

Essien for me closely followed by Drogba and Terry.

Riccy I would also like to mention as I always hated him playing when we had the other geezer here and now he's looking pretty assured..not yet as good but I am feeling more confident in him.

I would also like to put Sheva somewhere in the middle if I was to try to rate the whole team as he is doing more than the press would have us believe.

I think I'd agree with chippy- it probably has to be one from essien or drogba, both have had great seasons so far... very hard to pick... arguably they've been the two best players in the league...

oh, and IMO lampard has played a vitally important part with involvement with many, many... many goals... and his passing has returned in the last couple of months...

i agree with you about Lampard, his form is IMO almost back to his best he is starting to take games from the scruff of the neck and control the midfield again, in the second half against man ure he was immense and came close to getting us the win with a couple of great sighters

and as for the goals department, someone mentioned he hasnt been as prolific in the goal scoring charts, i am sure he is the top scoring midfielder with 5 premiership goals. Drogba is join top with 8

I have voted for drogba..essien has had a great season, but drogba has made the difference to the team up front, without his displays and goals we'd really be struggling...he was under great pressure with the arrival of sheva and he's responded magnificently...he's also emerged as a JT type character in terms of being a team man...he lifts the players and the fans and has done things like drag Mikel away from the ref after he got sent off to ensure he didn't get in further any trouble, also lifting swp toward the mhl after scoring his first goal

Yeah, that was quality when Drogba did that with SWP! It really shows the togetherness of the team.

Also, I've seen Drogs high-five Sheva and give him numerous pats on the back if hes done a good pass/shot etc, little bits of assurance and motivation like that will pay off. You can see why he is his country's captain.

Terry,

just been really good all season, an ideal captain. Then Essien then Drogs, but the difference between the three of them is miniscule! Drogs has been more of a revelation this season, but still great for us

Why am I not surprised !! icon_lol.gif Is Joe 2nd ?

Whats that supposed to mean Tea Bar?!?!?!

No, Joe Cole has not played enough to warrant second place, that would go to JT, of course!

I put Carlo because I think that he has been really brave to take over from Cech - it is definitely a tough act to follow! Also, after not being rewarded with a winners medal for the last 2 seasons, I feel that he will really deserve one this season. He has done us proud.

TBB's response would have made more sense if Carlo had been my suggestion icon_wink.gif

It's between Carlo (for the above given reason) and Essien (also for earlier stated reasons) for me.

I'm afraid I wouldn't have Carlo even in the short list. I don't see that what he is done is 'brave' - he is simply doing what squad players do - stepping in when required. If JT got injured and Boula stepped in to play as centre half and did OK but not great then would he be in contention?

Carlo has played OK but he has made a few mistakes and has generally looked a little lacking in authority.

Posted

I'm not talking to you anymore :)

Braveness in the face of adversity. Carlo stepped in and got knocked out for his trouble. After his recovery, he didn't flinch, but got on with his job. Sometimes that's worth more than flying like Harry Potter in front of goal, tipping out every ball.

It would be Drogs or Bison but Drog seems to be reverting to his tedious "diving and moaning" personnna.

So it is Essien for me by a distance.

Why is 'chocolate hands' Hilarious on the poll - you having a laugh? :)

Essien has excelled in about 3 different positions, so he just edges Drogba, imo.

I just hope we aren't tempting fate by giving out the POTY award in December...
