Was at that game. Remember a superb goal from Johnny Bumstead, but also the away support was fantastic. The local media described it as "the loudest heard at Villa Park for many years".

Cheers for the link!

EDIT: Just watched it - forgot Johnny B scored both! Probably the only time he ever got two in a game.

Had a few in the Holte end around kick off too :D

Best Holte turnout I remember from our lot was in 79, turned out to be our last top flight game for over 5 years and what looked to be no more than 40-50 Chelsea scattered the whole end.

There was at least a couple of hundred of us if my memory serves correct, but we were still well outnumbered. We scattered the Holte End spectacularly though, one of the best 'takings' of an end that I can recall - proud to be part of it!

Bolton away in one promotion year could also be included in that, think it was 2-2 with a Jock goal, and a few coaches of jocks as well. Maybe back to the Villa Thread now.

This could be the start of a completely new thread :D

Good find, never seen that before. When chelsea ran up to the county end, the whole lot of em legged it up the back of the terraces, couldnt have been more than 1000 of them and it was there promotion game. wouldnt mind but there was an 8ft fence in the way! ::clap2:: keep em comming m8 some rare stuff on there

Chelsea 2 Sheff Wed 1 - 1985 League Cup 2nd replay

Everybody remembers the amazing 4-4 game at Hillsborough of course. That was actually the first replay. But often forgotten is the second replay when we finally won the tie.

Great piece of magic from wee Pat to set up our equalizer and Mickey Thomas with a memorable winner. Followed by the obligatory pitch invasion of course :)

Chelsea 4 Newcastle 0 1979

Alas not the great thrashing from the 83-84 season that included the legendary Pat Nevin run from goalmouth to goalmouth. Nevertheless another thrashing dished out to the Geordies during a period where they must have dreaded coming to the bridge:

I remember this game well. Looking back at our performance that day and some of the talent in the squad we really should have got promoted that season.

Sounds like a plan for a thread, although I think we should also include the days when it all went a bit wrong.

Absolutely, anyone who claims Chelsea's mob was invincible is living in dreamland :D

Not seen that since the day it happened! Great performance.

That must have been shortly before we went on one of the worst runs in our history, which wrecked our promotion chances and cost Hurst his job. We scored 1 goal in the last 15 games or something stupid. I never understood what was behind that, but Hurst certainly seemed a poor manager of players, and that bunch were ridiculously inconsistent.

That skill from Nevin was incredible. Typical of the entertainment he provided back then - absolute legend.

Looking at the highlights from the 6-0 game, Hurst was still in charge, so that run didn't get him the sack after all. Must have been the following season.

There's some quality footage out there mate, clips on youtube, pics on photograph sites ect, i'm really interested in watching old footage especially back in the 70's/80's when our away support was just behind Utd & Liverpools even though we were cack for most of it.

I'll put some pics up as well when i get a min.
