Nibs Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Sorry to bring this up again now, when we'd probably all like to forget and put it behind us. But with all this "Mourinho possibly leaving" talk, this issue keeps cropping up and there still appears to be a lot of conjecture about what actually happened. So, does anyone know for fact whether it was Mourinho who wanted Gallas out or if the deal was done without his approval? As the time, I assumed he'd ok'd it as I find it hard to beleive that a player of such importance would be allowed to leave (to one of our biggest rivals) without Mourinho's say so. And if that had happened, I wouldn't expect Mourinho to still be here now. But recently, rumours are that JM didn't agree to it and that he has no problem with Gallas (even after all that scoring an own goal stuff?). Other reports say JMhad had enough of Gallas and insisted he went. Do we have to wait until one or both bring out a book or does anyone know for sure? It's bugging me
Elliott Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 My take on it was that Mourinho initially did everything in his power to get Gallas to stay. He knew how vital a player he was. However, after Gallas kicked up somewhat of a stink about 'not feeling valued', and wanting to leave, Jose decided that enough was enough - hence giving the 13 to Bollock. I think in his heart of hearts, if he could have had one final chat with BG and persuaded him to stay, thus sweeping everything else under the carpet, then he would of.

I would tend to agree with that. It's also been mooted that he when he knew Gallas was definitely going that he tried to block the Huth sale.
Tea Bar Boy Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 The thing is I doubt Gallas and Huth have played 15 games between them this season ? He desperately wanted to go to Juve and this was accepted by JM and the club but when they got relegated it was assumed he would stay at Chelsea .But Le Arse knew he wanted out and used it to their advantage in the Cole deal. I very much doubt JM or Kenyon wanted him to go to Le Arse hence the massive strop from Gallas to be allowed to leave.
Nibs Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 I still find it incredibly hard to believe that a coach who is as meticulous as Mourinho would let a world class player like Gallas slip through the net when it could have so easily been avoided. Just say JT or Lamps were having problems with a new contract, I would imagine JM would be actively involved to make sure everything was sorted. So why wasn't the Gallas issue sorted? Surely JM goes to Kenyon or whoever and says look I don't want to lose probably the worlds best defender - just do whatever needs to be done? In recent interviews JM has hinted that he wanted Gallas to stay and the fact that we lost him on the last day of the transfer deadline was beyond his control. I can't believe that. We all now how highly JM rates Carvalho and I feel he thought that as good as Gallas was, with JT & Carvo in the middle and Cole at right back, we wouldn't be any worse off. With hindsight he realises he was wrong and following the recent run of games where we conceded 8 in 4 he is moaning about Gallas going not being down to him? It's all really strange and there are still too many conflicting versions for my liking. We'll know come May just how costly a piece of business it turned out to be. I am not saying Gallas going is the sole factor - the injuries to Joe, JT & Cech and the way the new players have failed to settle in are all major. But I can't help feel that if we'd still had Gallas whilst JT has been out injured, we'd have done a lot better and how I wish he was still available if JT is out for the Liverpool game this weekend.
Guest Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Ahh yes Gallas...... The one peice of business that has and will probably continue to haunt us for many years to come. I think this bit of dealing will probably go down in Chelsea history as every bit as bad as the Makelele / Real Madrid debacle.
TomP Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 that's a massive overstatement there, qaz. Unless we happen to win nothing for the next four years, I would have to agree with you.
Makelele Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 lettem rot with the arseholes...i dont miss him anymore, ive moved on *puts on A. Cole #3"
