Michael Essien loan

Featured Replies

Take it if we can get it, he's not the player he was unfortunately due to injury and £10mil for him at this point would be great. He will always be one of the most complete midfielders in premiership history.

I do not see it happening, nor do I see us getting rid of Flo Mo sadly.

I expect Sturridge, Raul and Yossi are the only likely no youth players to go out before the end of the window from us.

If we get an offer of 8mill or so for Essien bite their hand off for it.

Sad to see him leave but if the early signs are an indicator Robbie prefers Meireles. £10mill is a good deal for him. We have to remember the Bison is on high wages.

If we managed to sell Essien, Malouda, and yossi. I would think we may need an experienced midfielder to balance the squad. But 10m for Essien really is a bite your hand offer, however I'd be sad to see him go.

The Bison in his prime would have been the first name on the team sheet for me however the fact I don't think he has played even a minute of football in our opening 3 games tells a story I am afraid.

I just don't think he is ever going to be the player he was for us, and at 29, sad though it is, I think we would be wise to accept an offer for Essien at this stage in the game.

Don't know where this story originated from so not sure whether to take it seriously or not, but Fenerbahce would be quite a step down for him. It's one thing to agree on a transfer fee, but whether the player would want to go there is another issue.

He said in pre-season that he wants to fight to win back his place in the team so, if there is any substance in this rumour at all, I can't see him going along with it.

Sigh.

Nothing makes me sadder. I look at Toure now and remember just how good Essien was.

But what can you do. His wages are big, he is a flip of a coin every season, it just doesn't make sense to turn down offers like this one.

There were limitations to his passing at times but in his prime he was as important to the team as JT, Lampard and Drogba.

If RDM isn't going to play him then £10 million would be a great deal.

He's not even a shadow of the player that came to us a few years ago, back then he was one of the best box to box midfielders in the game.

If injuries had not occured then he's be at him peak just now but it wasn't to be, I doubt anyone would pay £10 million if I am being honest as he has not played too much football in the past few years.

The one player I think would have seen us win more titles if injuries were avoided.

That Essien was a world beater who with Drogba was one of our best singings under RA.

Agreed on the Toure thing bigtime. At his peak there was really nobody in the world like him. On his day it always seemed like he was everywhere on the pitch, doing everything that needed to be done. Its no knock on Yaya but I think a 2005-7 Michael Essien wouldve eaten him for lunch.

If he is ready to go, we should take this offer. Otherwise he is with us for till 2015, and I doubt much will change for him in that time.

It breaks my heart to think about it. Ess has been my favorite player for years. An incredible servant to the club, but sadly ravaged with injuries.

What I don't understand is why he hasn't had a chance yet this season. He looked amazing in pre-season, and if I understand correctly, they've corrected what was thought to be the cause of his recurring ACL injury (beastly thigh muscles pushing down on it). So, if he's less likely to reinjure himself and he's good on the pitch, how come he hasn't gotten a run?

I know Arsenal would be chomping at the bit for him too (they need a boss in midfield)... Maybe send him out on loan? I suppose his wages are still too high.

I guess it's part nostalgia, but I don't think he's washed up or completely past his prime. And I know he's got some Blue left to give. Would be really sad to see him go.

A truly great player, that goal against the Gooners. Very special. It's a shame that injuries have taken their toll, if the offer is for real we will take it.

He looked past it last season but he had missed pre season. If Fenerbahce do offer £10mil I think we have to accept it. When he was healthy he was as good as any midfielder in the world.
