Anyone else notice the way ITV presented the Luiz incident last night? They brought it up and condemned it harshly etc. The incident itself no different to what other centre backs do every single week, the only difference is it caught him on the chin and to be fair it would have hurt.

The part I really didn't like was the nasty way they edited the video after to make it look like he was laughing afterwards, where Luiz was having banter with presumably one of our own players at a different time altogether, where he had a cheeky smile and was holding his index finger up to say "1", or something of this nature. This helped suggest in their argument that he is a nasty f**ker and did it to hurt the guy.

I also found the guy presenting and asking the questions to Southgate to be an insufferable scumbag, who clearly hates us.

I try not to watch MUTV2.

There coverage is uniformally terrible and they aren't remotely impartial or unbiased.

What a contrast with the way Ba's broken nose was dealt with, is it not?  Did we hear this sort of accusation then? Did we heck!

The fact the Daily Mail lead with Ian Wright's comments on both that & the Cole incident (jealous much that he's won things since leaving Arsenal, Ian?) just paved the way for the tripe on ITV. I didn't watch it because I knew what the focus would be on and I have better things to do. Shame really, Brentford gave us a game and they should have focused more on that.

I have no idea why at half time they gave the time of day to Ian Wright (former Gooner) to criticise Cole (former Gooner now hated by Gooners) for what was a bit of a non incident in the grand scheme of the first half given all the chances that were created by both teams and the failure of the ref to play advantage for Brentford near the end of the half possibly denying them a goal.

Seriously, it was just pathetic and Wright looked a d*ck head in his Joe 90 glasses (I bet they had plain glass in them too).

OH! and one other thing!

Southgate - the moron, was talking up Frank's goal and was saying oh he's doing great etc, and then went onto to mention the contract and said 'oh he's really fighting for a new deal, the question marks should be where was he earlier in the season'.

HE WAS INJURED YOU BELL END!!

Equal opportunities Zola, you can't discriminate just coz 2 people are mentally challenged. ITV doing its bit for care in the community.

They described Luiz's actions "sinster" while I was watching the live game...I snorted with laughter and carried on sipping my gin and tonic...as bad as Sky can be at times, compared to the amatuer ineptitude of ITV when it comes to sport, Sky is a bastion of common sense and professionalism...

Him diving when the ball hit him in the stomach, he acted like the player had kicked him. Not pretty and quite cringeworthy but I've seen far worser (is that even a word?) incidents not make the headlines.

I didn't see last night's coverage but watched the game live on TV and to be fair, in that instant, I thought Luiz's challenge was unnecessary.

He's one of our players and I'll always support him but he can be a bit random at times.

It was a bad challange but you'd think it was Pedro Mendes/Ben Thatcher, all over again the way ITV went on, and as Moi said compared to what happened to Ba the other week, it doesn't even come close...

I think he's under the impesssion that he's intelligent.

Coverage involving two people holding stupid petty grudges against the club is biased against us! More at 10!

The focus on it did nothing but take the focus away from the fact it had been a strong performance by Brentford for the two games and that they had a decent shot at knocking us out.

ITV has some woeful "experts" to conduct their analyses.

Why did they get Ian Wright in to comment on that game? A former Arsenal player was always going to be so biased against Chelsea it's just laughable.

It's bad enough they have Andy "I left Chelsea to win trophies but won naff all" Townsend commenting on our matches all the time.

Out of curiosity, I've just tuned into Talksport. And right on cue, Alan Brazil: "The David Luiz incident, it was nasty, I didn't like it, he knew what he was doing. It should be a three match ban."

What a load of sanctimonious, mealy mouthed bullsh*t. Guarantee if that was almost anyone else, you'd have the same people telling us: "It's a man's game. Nothing you don't see in games up and down the country week after week."

In truth if they start handing out red cards and three match bans for that kind of challenge players, there'll be no-one left to play the game. Either that or we'll end up with a non-contact sport, more akin to basketball. Imagine a basketball score, facilitated by a lack of defence: Chelsea 75-74 Man U. The idiots at ITV would be creaming themselves.

You see this happen every season. Someone does a strong block that results in a painful collision and pundits get in a huff about it.

Blocks and cynical fouls are always a yellow card (except if it's a goal scoring chance), fouls are punished based on the act, not on the outcome.

Posted

My Chelsea supporter bias shinning through big time here but!

It was just a block... Most games a defender will do it.

They draw a foul in a non threatening area of the pitch to avoid a bigger goal scoring threat developing, often they take a yellow card "for the greater good".

Makalelle used to be the king of doing this but I see it all the time, it's smart play.

Just in this instance it was unfortunate that Luiz hurt the guy... End of the day though and it is easily forgotten now days, football is a contact sport.

Posted

Luiz is getting more stick, than Stephen Hunt did for nearly killing Cech... I accept that was accidental, but the outcome was catastrophic for Cech and all we heard at the time were journos and pundits falling over themselves to stick up for Hunt, and to remind us that these things happen in contact sport. (Cudiccini's injury in the same game was pretty much ignored even though he too, ended up unconcious and in Hospital)

Three match ban? What a load of sh*t, it was a standard English centre back's block - in the last game we played our striker was booted in the face in the box and we didn't complain a bit.

Posted

And the funny thing is, next time a player goes down clutching their face like they are fatally wounded these same pundits will say "man up, it's a contact sport etc etc"

I knew 'Ian wright twat' was going to dig us out the moment i switched on the telly, he's never forgiven us due to his headless chicken step-son not being good enough for us.

He spouts real 'vicious' stuff about the club in general, yesterday he said there was something 'nasty' about the whole club.

It was inevitable that both the Cole and Luiz incidents would be highlighted by him, and of course that Brentford were sooo unlucky... to be battered 4-0.

I hate the gooner prick, and i said in the match thread that it was a disgrace that he was even brought in to do a Chelsea game, how about an old Chelsea player.. we've had a few !!

Where did they even dig Wright out from anyway?

I thought they "recruited" Lee Dixon to be their pundit now days, who despite being an ex Goon, is a lot more balanced in his analyses and goes further than scowling a little and saying "there's no need for that".

Ian Wrong Wrong Wrong, the most pointless person in punditry...At least I can console myself that he had a rotten weekend, what with us winning and Arsenal losing...

Just hope Bayern give them a good tonking this week...Added bonus is that the coverage may well show Bayern losing to us in the CL, and Arsenal fans will have to sit through it...!
