The John Terry Appreciation Thread

I don't know what to say really, there is no sufficiently great superlative to describe what JT gave to this club. He gave us his body and soul, and was surely the greatest defender ever to grace the Premier League. It was a true privilege to have him in the blue shirt.

As far as evolution in football goes, this tendency towards universality in centre backs (and players across the pitch) looks to be more of a permanent shift than a simple trend. A friend of mine claimed a couple of weeks ago that Rudiger is one of the best centre backs in the league. I was about to vehemently disagree, but then wondered... who is the competition? What great defenders (as in good at defending) are left in the Premier League?

This leads me to wonder - are we perhaps not just saying farewell (although I imagine not adieu) to a Chelsea legend, perhaps the very best, but also to one of the last great defenders?

Truly awesome career. Enjoy a long a fulfilling retirement, hopefully spent at Chelsea in some capacity. Wouldn't really want to see him as manager as he would inevitably get sacked one day.

In their 30 second mention of his retirement the BBC brought up the Ferdinand case and the racism charge, saying he was cleared before the FA banned him. Did they bring up the assault charge on the DJ when Stevie Me announce his retirement?

A legend and one of the greatest players to wear the shirt. So many great memories of him. One of my favourites is his goal against Barca in the 4-2 win over them in 2005. I remember his debut for us on 28 October 1998 in the League Cup game in Villa. Here's a picture of him signing for us. God, he looks young.

One of the greatest to ever play for us, what a career! He is and always be a proper blue, he is Mr. Chelsea. I am honored and privileged to watch him grow from a academy player to a Chelsea icon. Doubt we will see another player spending 19 years with us, in times where switching clubs is very common. Wish him a great retirement, hopefully one day a big part of the club but in a different department.

Long live king John Terry
