Based on their form in the title-winning seasons then Costa edges it over Drogba for me. Didier really kicked on (and kicked the diving out of his game) in his third season.

 

Makelele is one of the greatest players I've ever seen but if I'm building a team now then I have to go with Matic. Maybe Claude would've adapted but the 'Makelele role' has really become a thing of the past in a very short time.

Can't decide between Matic, Fabregas and Bison for the third midfielder. I'm thinking maybe Matic to cover Robben and Hazard's terrible tracking back. But Fabregas feeding a strike partnership of Drogba, Frank, Robben and Hazard? We would score five a game so we wouldn't need to track back. And then there is Essien in beast mode. Impossible to pick.

So: Cech, Ivanovic, Lord Percy, JT, Dave, Makelele, Lampard, Fabregas/Essien/Matic, Robben, Hazard,Drogba. Bench: Courtois, Gallas, two of Essien/Matic/Fabregas, Eidur, Joe Cole, Diego Costa.

Very tough to leave out Duff btw.
