All the fuss about Bodyguard a few weeks back which I thought was okay but dragged on a bit. Much preferring Killing Eve - really good and Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are both excellent.

I stuck with Killing Eve until the ridiculous Russian prison episode and that confirmed that it was just TOO silly for words, and I stopped.

Started with Berlin Station, and I wasn't really sure about what was going on in episode 1, episode 2  clarified some stuff, but made other things much more confusing.  I got half-way through episode 3 last night and realised that I didn't really care what was happening, and that the whole thing was just trying to be too clever for its own good, sacrificing good story-telling in a desperate attempt to be enigmatic, and covering poor writing with moody half-lit shots of Berlin.  So I stopped that one as well.

@erskblueThanks for posting. Will have to watch the programmes. I've visited the site a few times over the years.

The English knight, Henry de Bohun had more than a bad headache after receiving a blow from an axe wielded by Robert the Bruce!

From the alternative side of history the Knights Templar that were under threat in France were thought to have fought alongside Robert the Bruce in exchange for sanctuary.

As a young Scot, I grew up being taught in school about The Battle of Bannockburn.

However, the Battle isn't as a simplistic England v Scotland battle as it's often portrayed. There's much more 'medieval politics (and greed)' involved.

Agree about it being more than England v Scotland. In that it's very similar to the Battle of Culloden where English and Scots fought on both sides.

The Scottish Wars of Independence were very complicated with people changing sides: it is said that Robert the Bruce changed sides, possibly because his family had lands in both Scotland and England. I think that the Bruces had land in Yorkshire. There were also tensions between the Bruces, the Balliols and the Comyns. Following the deaths of King Alexander III and later Margaret, Maid of Norway, Edward I was asked to offer advice on who should be monarch in Scotland. That played into the hands of Edward I who was keen to expand his 'Empire' into Wales and Scotland.

On paper, the English should have won the Battle of Bannockburn as their army outnumbered the Scots forces but due to the Scots employing their forces better and having stronger leaders i.e. the Bruces, Douglas etc as opposed to Edward II who was not a military expert like his father. Arguably one of the key things to come out of the Wars of Independence was the Declaration of Arbroath which was drawn up in 1320. Some parts of that declaration are mirrored in the American Declaration of Independence signed 456 years later.

The Grand Tour is back for anyone who likes proper Top Gear.

It's been ok, the south America trip was a bit piss poor and a rehash of an old one.

finished the latest series of Vikings, bloody marvellous. Now watching the new Dirk Gently on Netflix, an Americanised version. First episode was really enjoyable, though not exactly the same as the books ha ha.
