Posted March 19, 200717 yr imagine a midfield with essien, diarra and mikel in it. atheltisism, skill, power, strength. this is gonna be an awesome midfield.
March 19, 200717 yr Nice midfield. Then we have players like Mancienne for the defence and Sinclair for the offence. Not bad at all.
March 20, 200717 yr I don't think Mancienne is good enough. I didn't think he was particularly impressive for QPR though he was put at right-back. He isn't overly quick and got caught out when he drifted forward. I do however really like Jack Cork. His two best performances i've seen were home to West Ham and away to Arsenal, where Cork gave Javier Mascherano and Mathieu Flamini a masterclass in midfield play. He's done exceptionally well since Rogers moved him from central defense into midfield and he looks a natural.

Mancienne is to me a centre half. In the games I've seen with Mancienne as centre half he's been really good. Could be a new Terry. Too bad I haven't seen him at QPR so far so I can't say how good (or bad) he is there.
March 20, 200717 yr Naturally, his lack of pace would be shown up more at right-back, so I'm reserving judgement. Even still I don't think he's that good.

March 20, 200717 yr NBA....Basketball...EDITED BY LOZ..... Tread very carefully here Sergey Ok Loz, no offence... Loz tell me what`s wrong here about fitness and black men???? In Russia almost everybody are white, so I can`t understand........
March 20, 200717 yr getting back to the point, I think Mikel is now the man who should inherit the 'maka' role when he goes/retires...he has looked extremely good the last few games when he has played there and last night he made spurs really struggle...it was a nioticeable difference from diarra, superb talent though he is, from the first game at sb...i think essien is wasted in the holding role too...diarra could play a more attacking roloe in midfield or stay as a right back, he makes the odd mistake due to inexperience/being a stranger to the position, but he had lennon in his pocket by the end of the match

I'd be looking for him to stay in that role for now. I think he showed his inexperience when he played the Maka role in the first match. He spent too much time chasing the ball rather than holding his position. Mikel definitely deserves a starting role. I wouldn't say he plays in the holding role, at least not in the same way as Maka, but he conducts the play and gives us control. It's amazing how our squad suddenly looks stronger and deeper with the injured players returning, some of the younger players coming through and Ballack and Sheva starting to hit some form. Of course we will need all of that plus a healthy dose of good luck if we are to win the Prem and the CL and the FA Cup but there's no harming in giving it a go.
March 20, 200717 yr I don't think Sergey means any harm, just his English is not too good. What I think he was getting at was the domination of coloured athletes in CERTAIN sports (nothing racist about that), like NBA, heavyweight boxing, NFL, Olympic long distance/sprinting. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/artic ... March 20, 200717 yr Diarra and Mikel have really started to prove themselves in the second half of this season. We all know Maka cannot go on for ever. Some still think he has 2-3 years left in him, but I seriously doubt that. Because of their obvious similarities I thought Diarra was the perfect replacement - and who knows, he might still be? But I must admit the way Mikel has played of late and seeing how easily he adapted last night, he looks ideal for the role. He is only going to get better. Diarra has been a revelation at RB and I am more than happy for him to stay there. He just needs to watch the odd rash challenge and avoid those early bookings - especially when he comes up against someone like Ronaldo. I suggest no-one lets Carvalho offer him any coaching!!!
March 20, 200717 yr Replacing Maka with Diarra or Mikel is actually quite a strategic decision as they will not play the role the same way. Diarra, once he has matured into the role more, would play it in very much the same way as Maka whereas Mikel would offer more going forward but a little less defensively. Both have major plusses however my personal preference would be to go with the Mikel option as I think our back four, with Cech behind them, is strong enough to be able to sacrifice some of the defensive cover in order to get more going forward. I see Mikel as more of a Vieira style player than a Maka style.
March 20, 200717 yr imagine a midfield with essien, diarra and mikel in it. atheltisism, skill, power, strength. this is gonna be an awesome midfield. Can't say I agree but my explanation would be way too complex and it would take a lot to explain. Just don't think they should play together, at the same time. Maybe a reason for it is that they all have similar style. It's not going to work, just like it isn't working right now. To be honest, I think it's out midfield that's hurting us this year... nothing else. Remember that team with Duff... J. Cole... Robben...? Now that was just sweet, wasn't it? And we kicked some serious ass as well.
March 20, 200717 yr the thing about mikel is he looks a stronger more imposing player and certainly looked like a towering presence last night...but diarra is tops too! funny how no-one is talking about our 'kids' who are actually plaing in big games not just the carling cup
