SHED 50

Recommended Posts

I've just come off the cfcnet forum and have read this:

The 'Return To The Shed' idea was thought up by Jerry and has been implemented excellently as I'm sure you all know. The atmosphere in the Shed was superb for the Sheffield United game and we want it to remain that way and to get it even better. So a few weeks ago it was suggested that 50 of us get together and get seated together to bring scarves, flags and sing our hearts out for 90 minutes. Neither Jerry nor I thought that the club would agree to this, however much to their credit they have and now we need 50 hardy souls who want to join in.

The 50 have got to be loud and proud to be Chelsea. You have to know songs and be able to start songs should the atmosphere get a little quiet. So, I'm asking for people that want to join in. If you do, then PM or email me for further details. It won't be complex (Well, not for you anyhow) but to be part of the 50 you've got to be quick as I need to give the list to the club by Tuesday 27 March!

If selected you have to behave and not cause problems except for singing and being colourful.

So to be part of the 50 get in quick and get in touch quick!

The game is against Bolton on April 28.

I just rang Pete and am now part of the plan but there are still 25 places left. The deadline has been extended to noon on thursday 29th

If anyone is interested then PM me and i'll give you his number. If you're interested make sure you have your membership number, credit/debit card details inc. valid and expiry date, security number on back of the card. You also need to give him a contact number.

He's the senior moderator and won't screw you over and your details are shredded after he has passed them on to Graham (Chelsea's ticket manager).

I think this is a quality idea but it can only happen with your help.

FORWARD THE CHELS!!

Being based up in this Northern tundra this is obviously something I can't sign up for (but definitely would if I was still living down South)

Good luck with it and keep us posted L&P

Just out of interest do you have any idea if people with seaosn tickets for other areas of the ground would be allowed to opt in and have their seat moved?

I know of season ticket holders that have swapped their normal seats to sit in the Shed for this game (Bolton) to help it get going. Not sure if it could be on a permanent basis though.

Its going to be the the first co-ordinated attempt to get Strolling going again. The lyrics will be handed out on leaflets outside the Shed before the game.

I'll keep everyone in the know but hopefully a few other members from the csr will be able to too icon_wink.gif

Reintroduce "strolling" not sure how that will go down. Not exartly a football song/chant, in my opinion. It may well have been a popular song many moons ago, but football chants tend to reflect the mood and people of the times.

Besides, whats the point in giving song sheets out when hardly anyone will know the tune.

All in favour of the idea by the way, all though it may sound as if I am against it.

I agree. I haven't heard "Strolling" for at least 30 years! Think I remember the words, but I'm not 100% sure -

I'm strollin', just strollin'

By the light of the moon above

I don't envy the rich in their automobiles

A motor-car is phony

I'd rather shanks' pony*

When I'm strollin', just strollin'

By the light of the moon above

* this was inevitably changed over time to "I'd rather shag a pony" icon_lol.gif

I'll be surprised if this is the same song that's gonna be reprised - no football references at all! There again, Citeh's "Blue Moon" is in a similar vein.

How about some other oldies from under the Shed?

Lee Marvin's - Wand'rin' Star - "I Was Born Under A Chelsea Shed..............",

or Teddy Bear's Picnic - "If you go under the Shed today, you're sure of a big surprise......"

I prefer them to "Strollin'" personally, but each to their own....

Its a quality idea.

An idea thought up by supporters who are really doing a good job.

I know "Strolling" and I do like the song, but it could take a while to get it wide-spread around the ground.

Maybe they should approach the club and get them to play it,before the match or maybe at half time.

But honestley my last three games........

Sp*rs at the Bridge,Sheffield Utd at the Bridge,Sp*rs at the l*ne........

Have been really good atmospheres.....

....Its on the up!!!

Do you not reckon that has something to do with the fact that we renot coasting along on top of the league at the moment. Yes I think the fan led initiatives have played a big part and I applaud them greatly for it but I am also getting the impression that the complacency is not there which had been developing (and thank God for that)

Thats what it is!

There was complacency in some sections of the support when we steam rolled everybody the last couple of seasons.

Last season got more exciting and the atmosphere improved, when we started to stumble slightly.

Remember after being 1 goal down to West H*m and down to 10 men at home coming back (4-1),the atmospheres really picked up!!

If I'm seriously honest..........THIS SEASON has been the most exciting since the 02-03 season.

And just is right about "Strolling" it is slightly dated.

Strolling, maybe its cause i'm a londoner, teddy bears picnic etc, etc. It doesn't matter. Its a start in turning the diminishing noise levels at SB around.

Alright then, how about if everyone stands up and sings "up, up and away in my beautiful balloon". Or, "there's no-one quite like Grandma" ?

Surely, it's got to have some Chelsea/football link ? My old fella has been going since the mid-50's and he loves telling Chelsea stories the way Uncle Albert liked telling Del Boy and Rodders a nautical tale. And I have never once heard him mention "Strolling". Perhaps we could wheel out Gracie Fields to belt it out at half-time ?

Jesus wept, Le Arse and Rottenham fans will be laughing their tits off.

Ok then, instead of moaning about it on the csr, why don't you ring the blokes number, join up and suggest a better one.

I think we'd all like a song that had more of a Chelsea link to it.

It's important to remember that this whole thing has been set up by Chelsea fans, which means they are doing what a bunch of Chelsea fans want to do - if that's stolling then so be it. There is one bloke in particular that desperately wants to get Strolling recognised as a Chelsea anthem again as it was in years gone by but lots of people have jumped on this band waggon - my old man being one of them. You can't in one breath say that you want the old fans and the old atmosphere back at the Bridge and in the next slate one of the old fans favourite hymns.

Noise is noise and it's something we're desperately short of at the Bridge, if people are prepared to do something to change that they deserve everyone's backing.

Glory what was that song the club tried to get going over the PA a few seasons back ? If I remember rightly wasn't it "Bring me Sunshine" the old Morcambe & Wise number ?

That died on it's arse in a matter of weeks, and quite rightly so because it was sh*te.

You gotta admit Strolling ain't exactly got the passion and emotion of "you'll never walk alone".

In fact thinking about it I'll hand one thing to the scousers, they have themselves two great anthems, YNWA and Ring of Fire.

Yeah it was "bring me sunshine" and it wasn't received very well icon_lol.gif

Truth be told,I think most of the time........ I had had a few and had a little skank PiANo.gif up to it anyway icon_lol.gif

Strollin' sort of bumbles along in a sort of slow "Margate Winter Gardens,Tea Dance" fashion....

....So i'm not convinced it will take off again.

But if it picks up a bit of momentum in the North Stand i'll give it a go!!

I still havent heard the orginal strollin song - does anyone know where i might be able to hear it ?

Whether or not it takes off or not, the idea for this shed 50 and strollin' should still be applauded. Heres to many more...

I cant wait for the Bolton game to see how it pans out (too scared to be in the 50 though!) Im a singer but ive never started a song in my life , im always so scared that no-one else will join in and i will get laughed at! maybe a few more stellas beforehand might help!

I heard some guys in the Peli after the Sperz game singing a version of liverfools 'f**k off cfc you aint got no history etc' song that i thought was ace. however considering its content im not sure if it will take off!
