Lewis Baker- Could he make it?

Recommended Posts

Do you think he can make it through? A perfect striker of the ball with either his left or his right foot, very good defensively and also a very good passer. He also captaind our team in the next gen series and looks a far better prospect to me than Ruben Loftus Cheek . What are your thoughts about him?

He's a good player (as are all our youth squad) but I haven't seen that something special in him that makes me think he will ever make it with us at senior level.

I know he's only 18, but even at that young age, the ones with real potential either make the first team squad or get linked. Chalobah, McEachran, Ake etc. I can't help but liken him to Connor Clifford who was also good and also captained the Youth team but wasn't quite top side material.

I may well be proved wrong but at least let's hope he still lifts a trophy this season.

Thanks for the update Nibs, seems you keep close tabs on the Academy lads.

Saying that, I watched the game against Liverpool at the Bridge and it was actually a very high standard. Very enjoyable. Thought Ake looked a class apart in that game, able to step up and play the ball forwards with ease. Looks a talent.

I think he showed a lot of quality this season. Very good defenively, more than capable to pick out a killer pass and I think (I didn't count) our third best goal scorer all youth competitions combined (after Feruz and Kiwomya who play more offensively than him). What impresses me the most is his extreme two footedness. He even takes freekicks with both feet and those are usually very good.

I really rate him. He's come by leaps and bounds this season and almost every game I've seen he's been the standout player for me.

Completely two-footed, reads the game well and chips in with a fair few goals. I think he should be included with the first team for pre-season to see how he gets on and maybe a loan move to a lower championship side next season.

Might make the bench but seriously doubt he will get near the starting XI, Marco van Ginkel would be ahead of him for game time.

I was thinking he might play further forward, as there's on salah who is definitely out of the athletico clash.

433 mikel, matic, van ginkel

baker ba salah.

Regardless of what Jose's said last night, he won't field a team that weak.

He's starting XI is still going to be extremely competitive.

Mikel, Lampard, Matic, Salah are likely to start and he still has Ba, Oscar and Schurrle to choose from who played minimal minutes or not at all last night for the attacking positions.

thats my feeling too, think it was just a dig at the fa for us playing on a sunday instead of the Saturday.

Absolutely insane. Shows how confident he is when he backs himself to score that.

He and Swift have been banging in the goals all season. Would like to think they aren't too far off the 1st team, especially given how god awful Ramires has been lately.
