Apparently we are in talks but alot of teams are interested. Conte brought him to Juventus just before he left and now wants him at Chelsea. Though Real Madrid have a buy back clause of 23 million and they apparently have the idea of buying him back and selling him for more than that.

According to the Spanish and Italian press, James could be going to Juventus in exchange for Morata. And apparently Arsenal and PSG are offering Real Madrid €60m for Morata. We may not be in the pole position here, unless Morata is keen in playing under Conte.

That price is ridiculous.

I like Morata but he is a 20m player not a 40-50m player. Let arsenal or PSG have him.

I agree. I like him and he'd certain improve Remy, Pato and Falcao. He has scored 9 goals this season and 15 last one, so I think he could play as second striker with either Costa or Traore. And he seems to score in big games like last year's CL's game against Real Madrid. But I don't think he's worth the £40m.

Everything depends on the price. Good player and would allow us to play two upfront with Diego.

Not too worried about the goal tally, would actually prefer him to Lukaku or Higuain as he has good strengths beyond just scoring goals. Costa remains our key man for goals

Even £20m is too much for what he gives you, i don't think he is worth more than £10m.

Would he really be an improvement on them though ? if he was to come here he would get half the games he get's at Juve. If he is struggling to score goals playing almost every game with Juve, just think what he would be like playing as a squad player here with us.

I have really liked Morata from what I have seen and he looks like a complete forward and at 23 I think he would be a great signing. 50m may be a bit steep but in an age when strikers are at a premium as there aren't many about it is to be expected.

I would also like to point out that yes 7 goals in 34 games looks like an appalling record but a lot of these appearances are as a substitute whilst only averaging 42 minutes per game. Which makes his 7 goals and 8 assists as part of a 2 man strike force not that bad at all meaning he is part of a goal every 97 minutes.

If we are to go 2 up top he would make a very good partner for Costa and provides some much needed cover at striker.

If we are going with 1 up top I would prefer that we gave opportunities to Traore and Solanke but if we are going to sign a striker, Morata would be a very good option IMO.

He'd certainly be an improvement if we were playing 2 up front as Conte seems to like.

I don’t think you can describe him as the complete forward when he struggles to do what a forwards is paid to do….score goals.

He is a better footballer than Costa but Costa is on another planet from him when it comes to end product, you would be replacing 20 odd goals a season with someone who scores a dozen if lucky. In any case Madrid will buy him back and sell to the highest bidder and maybe they might even keep him because when Benzema is injured they are clueless up top.

I'm assuming the people saying he struggles to score goals have never actually watched him play? Unreal player. Would take him as first choice striker at Chelsea.

Well he is a striker and his goal return is pretty poor.

Why are you suggesting we have never seen him play on the basis of the above?

More than half of his appearances have been coming off the bench in a front two. 11 goals and 9 assists in less than 2000 minutes of football all season. Contributing to a goal every 99 minutes. Better than Costa's contribution of every 132 minutes. Many people want Lukaku resigned yet only averages one every 102.4 minutes.

Most people just look and see he scored 11 goals in 46 games this season and assume he's sh*t. If he played every game from the start imagine what he could do.

There is a reason almost every team in England wants him.

Don't think anyone on here said he was sh*t....

He isn't at the same level of Costa though and it's not judged over just one season.

Costa has been proven in Spain and England scoring 20 goals and over in each 3 seasons.

Morata in Spain in 23 games had 8 goals while 2 years ago at Juventus he has 8 goals in 29 games and this season scored just 7 in 34 games. Whatever way you try to look at it that’s a woeful return in goal to games regardless of sub appearances, he has never scored more than 8 goals in the league in a single season.

So again you can’t simply say people who are not impressed with him as a striker have not watched him.

So by your logic shall we compare him to Costa at the same ages? When Costa was 20 he hit 8 goals in 34 games. As you just pointed out Morata hit 8 in 23..

Following season for Costa was 6 goals in 28 games. Morata? 8 in 29.

For the next 4 seasons Costa didn't hit over 10 goals in a season. It was only when he turned 25 that he started banging them in. Or shall we wait until Morata is older and spend £80m on him?

Yes I'm going to compare him to what we have already.

How can I compare Morata with anything else? I can only judge him on what he has achieved so far because you know...I don't see into the future.

I also think that you have to ask why he's coming off the bench? Some players are more effective that way (Hernandez springs to mind) but aren't very effective if they start matches. Just something to consider.

I think he would be perfect, he can play in a 2, he can play wide, and he can lead the line. I don't think he would kick up too much of a fuss if was on the bench 15-20 times a season. At 23 he is only improving, and he is already really good at linking up the play, much better than Costa in that respect.

There seems to be a few question marks over his goal scoring record, but he has scored goals in big games, and I think he offers a lot in other aspects as well.

It would be a gamble replacing Costa with morata, but if the plan is to have both, I will be very happy, although I'm not sure we could do it financially.

Higuain gets critised because he doesn't score in the big games, morata scores in the big games, but gets critised for his overall record! The standards are certainly high on this forum, it wasn't long ago we had torres, ba, and eto'o!

Costa, morata, traore, would be the best set of strikers we have had for 3 or 4 years.

The thing is Morata isn't being touted as Costa's partner but rather as his replacement from the articles I have read.

That would be a horrible move because he simply doesn't score enough goals.
