I read some of the comments on Follow Follow earlier and mention was made of the abuse some Rangers fans gave Ally in his early days at Rangers but as you say he turned it round.

He had an absolute nightmare against Dundee at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup in early Feb 1985.

He missed about half a dozen decent goal scoring chances and many in the ground ‘voiced their displeasure’.

That’s putting it very politely and to add to it, Dundee won 1-0.

Yet he never ducked making a run or making himself available. And many players would have wanted away after this type of game.

All credit to him for turning it round and becoming a Rangers goal scoring legend.

Hampden Park from the 'Rangers End'

Great picture. That might well be the Scotland v England game of 1962. 132,441 was the official attendance. Probably easily add 15,000 to that for the actual attendance!

Celebrating a 2-1 win at Parkhead on 1 April 1989. From left to right: Cooper, Drinkell, McCoist, Sterland, Stevens, Woods and Wilkins. As we know sadly two of the players are no longer with us.

Agreed. Chris Woods saved a penalty that day from memory.

July 1977, Kevin Keegan made his debut for Hamburg, in a pre-season friendly v Barcelona, after a British record £500,000 move from Liverpool. The Blaugrana laughed at his pink jersey. Keegan laughed back when he scored in a 6-0 win. https:www ww

Archie Gemmill played 43 times and scored 8 goals for Scotland.

He captained the national side on no fewer than 22 occasions. Gemmill's most celebrated moment was his goal against the Netherlands in a Group D fixture at the 1978 World Cup.

Scotland needed to win the game by three goals to qualify for the next stage of the tournament, having had very poor results in their first two games.

With his team leading 2–1 in the 68th minute, Gemmill scored a goal which was described by The Scotsman as follows:

Iconic moments: Archie Gemmill slaloms through the Holland defence in the 1978 World Cup and (below) David Narey scores against Brazil in 1982

In 68 minutes, however, Scotland went 3–1 up when Archie Gemmill scored one of the great goals of this World Cup so far.

The little midfield player homed in on goal, played a magnificent one-two with Dalglish, then sprinted into the box and thumped a glorious goal past Jongbloed to revive all the hopes which had died the death this past fortnight. It was an extraordinary goal and an extraordinary moment.

Suddenly Scotland were dreaming of glory again”.

Then a couple of minutes later,Jonny Rep picked up the ball in midfield just inside the Scottish half. He strode forward and unleashed a shot from 30 yards into the top right hand corner of the net past a despairing Alan Rough.

The couple of minutes of ‘Scottish dreams of glory were over.
The goal by Gemmill however, would live long in the memory.
To be fair, Reps goal was a brilliant goal too.
