David Luiz back at Chelsea

Recommended Posts

Don't understand how he can go from being in the Premiership Team of the Year last season to being totally out in the cold (OK is currently carrying an injury).   You'd hope any differences with the manager could simply be resolved over a cup of tea! Now very dependable at the back and probably adds more going forward than Christensen with his pinpoint driven or looping passes.

Well that is just the thing, he hasn't been dependable at the back this season. I think Luiz worse side has come out again this season. Very casual defending, charging out of position and leaving the defence exposed, not fully concentrated. I don't think he has been the worst defender for us this season, but i don't think he's been very good either.

Christensen may not be as good on the ball as Luiz, but he's pretty competent and look's comfortable passing out of defence. He also look's far more composed and concentrated in defence compared to Luiz.

There was moment in the game against Qarabag that summed up Luiz this season. He had the ball at his feet, and before he played a pass, he brushed his hair back into place. It's a small detail, but it just shows that he is too laid-back this season. What other player would play around with their hair when they have the ball at their feet ? Smiling and having a joke when we were losing to Roma didn't help him either. These small details add up in the end and it clearly look's like Conte doesn't have time for that kind of thing.

It may be a personality thing with Luiz, lets not forget we got him because PSG decided he was surplus perhaps similar to us with Christensen looking a better defender.

Perhaps Luiz can only focus for a year at any one place and then gets bored / complacent or having competition pushes him to overreach when he does get playing time.

Another factor in some of the clips I have seen is like Costa with he looks a bit of a joker.

David heard we were interested and actually asked to leave because he felt had unfinished business here. PSG's owners didn't want him to go but let him leave out of respect.

Luis took a f**king pay cut to return to us. And people here have the gall to question his commitment.

You have no clue what you talking about mate, so please have a strong cup of tea and reflect on what i said.

Conte's terrible man management disrupting the squad again.

Instead of fixing the bust up with Luis, he decides he'd rather make the squad weaker and let one of our best players go. All this over a substitution where luis wanted to be kept on.

Someone at the club needs to rein Conte in before he starts screwing up the squad again.

:laugh2:

Think you are in a minority of one with that view.

I like Luiz and hope he stays as the squad is thin enough as it is but I trust Conte. We need a strong manager to nip issues in the bud and he handled the Costa situation perfectly. Realised he was trouble and disruptive but kept him on board to the end of the season and ensured we won the PL, then made it clear he was no longer wanted.

As I say, hope Luiz stays and feel now that Christensen is clearly the better option, perhaps Luiz could be rotated with Bakayoko. However, if Conte feels we are better off without him going forward than so be it.

Another point I really think is important about Luiz is Brazil and for sure he will think there is unfinished business due to their hammering by Germany last time around in the World Cup.

I think if he feels he is no longer first choice here he will look for a move especially due to the approaching World Cup finals.

I don't question his commitment just his judgment at times.

I'm torn with this one. He's a big personality, he's won everything with the club, and he seems like a good guy to have in the dressing room.

Luiz is now entering his 30's his hamstring is damaged due to the heroics in Munich, and his knee is damaged due to aguero. Both of these injuries will make it harder for him to play regularly at the highest level well into his 30's.

Cahill is also going to start slowing down, but at least with cahill, he has a good injury record, and I think he will be more accepting of a squad role, which would be good with him being homegrown.

Maybe it would be better to cash in on Luiz, and if the club don't think rudiger or zouma are cahill's long term replacement, then we have some funds to go after a van dijk, laporta, koulibaly.

Luiz has been a fantastic player for us, but christiensen is the future.

I never said Conte was bullying our players. I said he doesn't know how to deal with people.

David doesn't strike me as a troublemaker. Luis is an emotional guy, he got upset that he got substituted. Now this is a normal situation for any manager, your big personalities get upset and its your job to deal with it. But somehow it doesn't get dealt with, and has wildly escalated to point where Luis is leaving. That is poor man management. It's poor leadership.

It's not the first time this has happened either. . It's happened with Matic and Diego. And our squad was weaker because of it.

And its funny to our fans talking about how terrible Luis is. I'm sure that's why the best team in europe wants him, because he's awful.

Why do you keep bringing up Matic ? When did Matic and Conte have a fall out ?

Also, you know Costa has been a problem for a while now, you're just trying to pin that on Conte because you are bitter about Luiz being dropped.

If we do part company with Luiz (for a decent fee) I would also look to sell Zouma and get Van Dijk. Stop the dippers getting him although I can City trying to sign him in January.

Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger, Cahill and Van Dijk would give us pretty strong looking defensive options.

The best situation would be to sign a CB who can play in the middle but mainly at wide CB. Christensen has the middle under lock and key bar injury/suspension so we can't sign a specialist in the middle of a 3 just as cover, well not a high quality one anyway. VVD would probably be the ideal option if we can pull him off.

Not sure if we should go that far although if Eva was still with us that would no doubt clinch the deal!!

I would rather we sell Luiz, recall Zoum-Zoum. Buying a CB despite having 5 very good options would be weird given that we are looking to balance our books almost every window these days (in the summer we have a net spend of 3mil if we include costa).

So buying a 60mil defender wont be the best idea in my opinion. A good back-up/competition to Alonso LB (for 20-30mil), would be my perfect choice as well as a back up striker.

The issue is, Zouma doesn't fit our three at the back system atall. Everytime he played last season our buildup play suffered spectacularly and as a consequence our team performance did too.

My hearts saying bring him back and give him a serious shot, my head is saying sell for the benefit of both parties.

How is Zouma doing at Stoke?

You expect any of us to watch STOKE?!!

From parts of games I have seen, he hasn't looked great. Wins some tackles, wins some headers and recently scored a goal but he just doesn't look like the calibre of player you would see at a top side, looking to compete in PL & CL.

:laugh2: It's why I'm asking because I can't be bothered watching them in the slightest.

I know JT has been superb for Villa and the Villa fans already love him (they're missing him badly with his current injury) So it would be a shame if Zouma is doing pretty badly.

The other option and one that would be preferable would be to get a reserve player used to playing the CB role, just in case Christensen gets a knock and Luiz has moved on.
