He captained us to PL victory last season so I do

But he's also inconsistent and while he does have flashes of pure brilliance, he's just as likely to do the opposite.
It's disappointing, especially when we have 2 fast young and intelligent defenders on the bench.

I'm surprised Cahill has been selected - is it because he's relatively good in the air (a known Arsenal weakness)?

Same with Cesc - Conte mustn't be expecting Arsenal to press all that much.

This is just the wrong selection for me, community shield team, should stick to 3 in midfield cesc in front of kante and baka,  and I like Garry a lot as a chelsea man but Rudiger earned that place, I find that unfair, Garry wasn't away injured he was away because he f**ked us and cost us our only defeat of the season. Sends the wrong message, like Mou with his always picking Ivan, the players performing best shoud be in the game. That aside it's just not our strongest team or set-up, conte for all his brilliant attributes I feel is tepid on his selections, not decisive and not as tactical at picking tools for jobs as much as say Mou was, when I saw the Tottenham game I was so happy I thought he had learned and changed that, the big games last season we underperformed because we had no tactical differences in our set-up or style of play, that was our one weakness, big games, and we need to evolve, I thought we would see that, gain, very disappointed.

You'd thought Conte would've done something similar to when he managed Juventus.
Pirlo, who at his age was pretty flimsy but could provide a good cross/shot in.
Guarded by Vidal and Pogba, two arguably more defensive midfielders who would create space for Pirlo.

Don't understand this line up at all. Would've gone with Rudiger instead of Cahill and 3 in midfield.
I trust Conte 100% but I've lost a bit of the good feeling I had about this match now..

I'm with you.  Thought we'd have 3 in midfield, but not surprised Cahill's back in.  Hope we get good goal-scoring Gary, not bad own-goal scoring Gary.

Wait, isn't this pretty much the same team as the one in the community shield?

Maybe he's giving the same team/players the opportunity to make amends for the CS defeat....

Why Conte is so complacent when it comes to Le Arse ?

To be fair, we've reached a point where the entire league is complacent against Le Arse, they're a joke of a club with a joke of a manager.

I just saw the selection and lost the good feeling i had one hour ago. With all due respect to Gary, I believe Rudiger deserves his place in the team, so I am a but disappointed by Conte's choice.

Obviously Conte knows better than anyone, so I trust his judgement, but if GC is going to make mistakes that will cost us the game.....

I would have preferred Baka as well, but Conte has decided this starting line up so I can only say:

COME ON CHELSEA !!!!!

It's the same team as the CS and FA Cup final defeat bar Costa and Bats.

I agree, but maybe with hazard out, Fab spraying passes is worth losing one of pedro/willian, but if you only have one of pedro/willian up with Morata could be toothless, you could understand it not being our go to on all games with hazard not fit, but it should be a well used option when he is, however this would strike me as the perfect game for 3 in Midfield, would control the game with ease....I guess he thinks Morata + willi/pedro cant hold the attack for us, but again I agree 3 man juve style mid, but with fab infront rather than with Pirlo behind, is a very hard puzzle to solve for teams, that with 2 up top haz and morata to me is a devastating option.

With Bellerin on that right, I'm not enthusiastic about Cahill and Fab with just Kante in the middle but I fully support either way just as long as they give 100%

Maybe the thing with Pogba and Vidal was that they both had terrible haircuts and that made it work.
The problem with our squad in that regard is that while Bakayoko could definitely pull it off, Kante is bald so only one member of our defensive duo would have a sh*t cut.

If he wasn't Captain I'm not convinces Cahill would have walked back I to the side like he has. Both Rudiger and Christensen have done really well so far where as Cahill has been rash on more than one occasion.

Plus you have to understand Fab doesn't have the natural man beauty of pirlo, could be about the aesthetics
