Musical Connections Take Four

About Tom Petty. I had no idea who that guy was, and when he passed it seemed to have a massive reaction in popular culture, so I figured he was just another one of those oldies that had gone over my head. Then about two weeks ago, I had some spare time at work, plugged in my earphones and as it happened Elton John´s Rocket Hour was live on Beats 1. It was the first episode since Tom Petty´s passing and he shared a couple storys, then played Running Down A Dream. I was shocked. Not sure that anyone in this thread will identify with, but that song was in the GTA: San Andreas soundtrack, a game on which I have spent months of my life on. Also probably the best soundtrack of any game.. ever.

That´s about it, just wanted to get off my chest how Elton John made a young man realize that Tom Petty had impacted his life when he had no idea who Tom Petty was.

@Soulo A great post. That's one of the great things about music, discovering songs, performers and writers via sites like this, youtube or going to gigs. Or good old radio. I've lost track of the number of gigs I've been to over the years and heard bands that I'd never heard of. Just looking at the history of music in the last one hundred years and there have been loads of great songs, performers and songs etc. The list could go on for ages. And then there are those whose influence on music has been considerable. A few names - in my view - to start with: Robert Johnson, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, Louis Jordan and Chuck Berry.
