Jimbo Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 If you could pick one which would it be? Three in a row or the cup with the big ears? Proof of our domestic dominance despite injuries to key players or european glory (which would mean getting revenge on liverpool in the semi's). My vote goes to europe.
Elliott Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 The great European nights bring entertainment and excitement like no other, however you have to win your Bread & Butter competition. The League, no question.
barak81 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 If the Cl was still the credibal european cup it would be a tight call but as it stands, EPL every time
dkw Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 prem for me. cups have a massive amount of luck to them. the league is won by the best team. simple really.
Fansince65 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 This is a tricky one for many reasons, but I am going for the premiership. I know the CL is the high profile megabucks one, but the competition was devalued in my eyes when UEFA decided to let teams in who finish miles behind the actual champions. I know we benefited from this in the past, and it is my true heartfelt feeling that in spite of the prestige and of course the financial gains involved, on a couple of occasions we had no right being there, I know I will be slaughtered for this post but it it what I feel, listening to the plastic scousers in the pub screaming "Champions of Europe!" when they couldn't finish in the top 4 of their own domestic league finally did it for me, how the hell can you make such a claim as being the best team in Europe when you trail the league leaders by 30 odd points? even now as we speak, I believe they stand 18 points behind Mannure. The other point I would like to make is UEFA have, in my eyes very little credibility, the way they deal with various situations and depending on who is in the dock, just a quick example, the way JM was treated over the Barca/Frisk episode, compare that to T.Henry's comments about the ref on live tv just after last years final, JM is branded the new Satan by all & sundry while not a single word is mentioned about Henry & his comments!!!! also with Septic Bladder in charge, they come across like like a mix of the Mafia, James gang & Bonnie&Clyde, all rolled into one as the biggest bunch of gangsters of all time, and until they clean up their act (which they are frequently telling us to do) I for one, am not too fussed about winning one of their tournaments "MADNESS"!!!!!! I can hear you all screaming at me and saying "what a tosser "etc etc, but like I said earlier it's just how I feel. Having said all that, the way we played 2nd half last night was superb and whatever the competition was, it made you proud to be a Chelsea fan, against all the odds the lads showed tremendous guts, courage, unity and no small amount of flair. To go there and go a goal down and come back and win the tie was just incredible, and the scenes afterwards! would you ever see red nose, Rafa or whinger celebrate with their captain like JM did on live tv ? they deserve to win whatever they are destined to win and of course I will be delighted in the process, but just to go back to the original question, I would sooner win our own domestic title for 3 in a row, that really would tell everyone who the best team in Europe is.
ethicalstrategy Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Has to be the league. You need to be lucky to win the CL. Of course, I really want both (and the FA Cup)
heckel Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 CL: we've come so close in recent seasons and we don't know when we'll next get a chance to give the Lamps/JT generation the Euro glory to go with the domestic success of the last two seasons.
Lofty Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Very difficult. But I think the Champions League, just. If only to shut those bloody Scousers up, and that lot on TalkTrash - "Chelsea can not be considered a big club until they've won the Champions League" .. "Jose Mourinho can not consider his time at Chelsea a success if he doesn't win the Champions League". All complete cobblers of course.
The Moos Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I have to go with the CL. It's a close call but even though it would be very nice to win the league for a third time in a row I still feel that finally winning the Champions League would be absolutely fantastic. We have been close so many times and it would be nice to finally prove ourselves in europe. Since we became one of the big teams we have won the league twice proving that we are one of the top teams in England and we have won a few other brittish titles. But winning the CL-trophy would take us the final step and prove that we really is a top team in europe. But if ManU get's knocked out in the next round and we eventually also get knocked out but end up winning the league, then that wouldn't be too bad either. Heck, as long as we take home either of the two trophies (unless we can take both) I'll be happy.
midlandblue Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Have to say the Premiership, would love to win it this season, can you imagine ending this season as Champs? what an achievment that would be.
loz Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I must say I am surprised this poll is even close - I thought the Premiership would win by a mile. Maybe if we had dominated the domestic game for a number of years then the CL would become more of a priority on a short term basis however as things stand we are nowhere near dominating domestically. The Premiership is far harder to win than the CL. We were chasing it for 50 years up until 2 seasons ago and I am nowhere near getting ready to replace it with another preferred target.
g3.7 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I agree. if we had dominated in england like united in the 90's or juve have in italy, then naturally you would start to look at the european cup... even after "only" 2 league trophies, at the start of the year I might have been tempted by choosing the CL. but the way things have gone... could you imagine winning the premiership this season?
BlueBosnian Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 First time I will not vote for something because it is so close that I just can't find the answer.
Valerie Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Three on the trot, definitely. If only for the inventive prints on the back of replica shirts it will provide!
Makelele Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 G4 has it right, if we win the league this year it would be INCREDIBLE, as of right now the league is further out of reach and winning it from behind would be so dramatic and special...
mbh Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 This season it has to be Premiership, what with all that has gone on this season, it would be a remarkable achievement to become champions for a third time, but would like another cup trophy to go with it, C.L. or F.A. cup, not fussed.
lauren Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 for me it's the Prem League, it's a matter of pride. I would rather be champions for the whole of next season than being remembered for winning the CL.
Kev123 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I voted Champions League. The Premiership 3 times in a row would be a greater achievement, no doubt. However, winning the Champions League is better for Chelsea FC as a global brand, we have to win it sometime even if only for the international exposure this will bring. (I know we have alot already, but winning the Champs League for the first time would be another step in the right direction. We've won the league already.)
mad_mac Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I spoke with several people about this lately, and I am so torn I don't think I can vote. You see, Andy "tit" Gray said that he wouldn't consider Chelsea a great team until we had won the modern day title 3 times in a row, such as Man U have with the premiership, and Liverpool did in the 80's with the old division 1. I really think I would pay the long distance rates just to call him and ask him if, now, he will admit we are a great team. Also, this year, we ahve been chasing the whole time, and many have written us off for the favour of the mancs...sir red face taking the trophy back to where it rightly belongs, etc. I would LOVE for us to snatch it from under their noses. However, we have all now seen Chelsea lift the EPL in our lifetimes, and then we saw us repeat it the following year. A great feat, and one that we will all hold dear. BUT, will we ever see us win the CL? I can't say, but in the words of Jose "not always the ebst team wins a knockout competition. So, does that statement reduce teh credibility of the CL or does it make it that harder to attain? I feel it makes it harder to attain. IN knockout, the ebst team doesn't always win, favourites can get knocked out to underdogs who score a lucky goal and then defend lilke their life depends on it, and it takes character for teams to find a way to win in these competitions. Like it or not, Liverpool's comeback against Milan was a sporting spectacular (to the non-biased). It is football at its grandest stage, adn I wuold LOVe for Chelsea to have their names on a Trophy that stats, just once, that we were Chamions of Europe. I rememer Zola scoring the winner for us in the ECWC final, and I thought that we had reached our peak then. Now we seriously can contend for the Champions League....it doesn't get much higher in world football (at club level) Scott

I wouldn't let the likes of him influence your opinion, any more than I'd give any credence to any number of "experts" spouting that Chelsea cannot be considered a great team, or even a big team - Scousers are especially prone to this particular argument, what with their obsession with history. And it's all crap. Even if we win the quadruple, that lot will put it down to Roman's money.
