JCL.....

....JOHNNY COME LATELY

This has been brought up on many occasions and is one of my single most skin crawling fears!

Maybe i'm just being really paranoid...??

.....But there are a lot of Chelsea tops knocking around Tesco these days!

And I just didn't see this situation a few years back...

...If I saw a Chelsea shirt in my local town

.....I would always make a passing comment ....."Up the chels"

But these people, these Aleins from planet Glory Glory.....who the f**k are they??

What do they want from us!!

I'm not talking about young kids, young kids wanting to support Chelsea is pretty cool!!

But to me and my Bruv and a few cousins,it was much cooler....

....cos it was proper

...cos it was slightly different...

Cos its who we were.......(and still are)

The MUGS at School, they supported Forest,Leeds,Liverpool,Man Utd....etc etc

But they never went to games.....It was just ALL about fashion!!

(That's what whats happening to us now FASHION.......and I hate it!!)

But WE went to the games.........We knew OUR club......We all felt part of it (through no choice of our own icon_lol.gif )

Its NOT cool to be a sheep and follow the best......(THATS WHAT THE OTHER KIDS WERE!!)

I spend all my hard earned following my team and thats what I always wanted!

I just think to wear OUR colours and NOT really mean it is like Blaspheme!!

And sometimes.......

.. I feel as if the all out glory path, that the club is heading in is ALL too much!

If you can make any sense of this post or identify with what I'm getting at please reply!

Were the North Stand, not the Shed!!

Thanks

Rob

It is getting worse at Chelsea mate but not as bad as some teams (United). I was watching the game last night in a walkabout and one end of the pub was watching Chelsea and the other United. Two thirds of the pub were there for United, and this is a South London borough by the way, and i'd bet my life that 80% of them were the type of football fan you are talking about.

But it can't be helped my friend. The cost of success i suppose. Liverpool, United, Arsenal etc fans probably say similar things about the day-trippers that visit their stadiums, buy their shirts etc but at the end of the day when Chelsea return to their old ways, which is guaranteed to happen at some point, we'll (proper Chelsea fans) still be strolling down the Fulham Road and they'll be at the next team that serves shampagne and voluvons at half time.

'Political correctness', 'Corporate' and 'new fans' (now re-branded by Kenyon as 'the Chelsea family') are three words that have helped to ruin the club as we knew it.

'Political correctness' ie the throwing of celery. Also for the spurs game there was a text no you could send a message to for anyone using anti-semitic chants. Seeing as Spurs fans sung 'Y*d army' through-out the 1st half, should they have all been ejected? Chelsea's family can now grass on each other to get someone thrown out by giving their seat number.

'Corporate' - Areas of the ground have been allocated (for a massive entry fee), for those supporters/chaps who couldn't get tickets for the rugby. They are too good for a pie and a bovril, and often need reminding which colour their team is playing in!! Following onto.......

'New fans' or 'Football tourist' - Either the suede loafers and barbour jacket brigade or the ones who have seen us play on TV in Asia or USA and make the trip to watch a game. This is all well and good but for the club but they are the ones forcing out the average fan, as they only attend the 1 or 2 games a season, they don't mind paying the prices for a one-off, this could also be said for the corporates.

Unfortunately this comes with the trappings of sucess. It would be great to get rid of the 'plastic' fans and still have the trophies and a crowd full of the 'old skool' but football has become trendy and in it's quest to appeal to the middle classes has iginored the supporters who put the clubs where they were before SKY interveined with their wads of cash.

Just look at kickoff times nowdays, they do not concider the travelling supporter at all. Do JCL's travel to away games though?

No I don't think they do.

And thats why the Aways are the best days BLUENUT.

Its the people you see wearing the shirt now in the south of England........where were they before??

These people ain't Chelsea they are just in it for the ride............And I f**king hate that!

Even if the club had sunk into oblivion me and my mates would still be there, partly for the crack, but mainly cos that's who we are!

Where would these people be??

Maybe I'm wrong??!!

The mere existence of the JCLs doesn't actually bother me, it doesn't change my love and support of the club and it doesn't change the enjoyment I get out of supporting the club.

What does bother me is when the big big games come along and the people who have been following Chelsea for years and years (and I am not referring to myself because althouhgh I have supported Chelsea for this length of time my geography means I am not the regular attender I was when I lived down South) don't get a ticket because they have been sold to people who couldn't have found their way to the Bridge 3 years ago.

A proper loyalty scheme is the only proper way to distribute tickets for big matches (such as cup finals, European nights, big games - i.e. Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool Spurs..... and Leicester) and that loyalty scheme should take account of a greater time frame then the current season't ticket stubs. Points should be awarded for being a ST holder for an extended period, for being a member for an extended period etc. I'm not saying I have a perfect solution to hand but given time and a bit of thought I'm sure a semi decent solution could be devised.

I had 3 of them sitting behind me in the MHL for the Sheff Utd match a few weeks back.

None of them made an attempt to cheer or sing, and one of them even questioned what colour strip the opposition should be playing in as he thought they were 'Sheffield Wednesday'!? I couldnt believe my ears.

3 proper fans could have been sitting there and getting behind their team.

With not a cardy or barbour jacket in sight.

Whilst we are on the subject of s**t fans i've got to say that the people that get their mobile phones out and record Chelsea goal celebrations instead of celebraing themselves should all be kicked out of the ground. It drives me mad! When Chelsea score you shouldn't be f***ing around with your phone, you should be going radio rental, jumping all over the place and i constantly see these people doing it, even in the MHL. You dont see that type of s**t at Everton.

Its got to the point where i dont take pictures or record anything inside SB cause i'll look like a tourist and i know that if it winds me up it'll probably wind others up too.

Hmmm...if I'm able to save the money for the trip and the ticket, I wonder if I should make my first trip to Stamford Bridge afterall. I wouldn't want to upset the real fans, would I? icon_rolleyes.gif

fecking hell guys. right, Im 20 years old, im from Dubai at uni in england, started supporting Chelsea when i was 12 years old (dunno why, something in em just made me feel good). Never been to Stamford Bridge, but went to an away game (at Leicester). One game ive been to. The blood in my veins is blue! Sadly, it seems like some people in these posts are questioning that. What you guys think of the "New supporters" effects me quite a bit, cuz i could be considered in that category. The way you guys describe what you see at SB when the new guys come along is quite sad, because its one of the main reasons i wouldnt dare to go! Being considered a glory supporter is quite harsh for n e one to take.

I think you are misinterpreting this. I have no problem with people who have supported Chelsea all their lives and never been to the Bridge (for whatever reason, be it geography, money, illness etc etc etc). I also have no problem with young kids who have started supporting Chelsea recently as lets be honest a lot of kids support the team that is most successful.

My beef is with people who are much older who suddenly start supporting Chelsea, especially people in or around the London area who are maybe in their 20s and 30s who are suddenly 'HUGE' Chelsea fans and are getting tickets for games at the expense of fans who have been following us throughout more turbulent times.

There is a world of difference between these people and the sort of fan you appear to be - the difference being that when Jose leaves and Roman sells up and we are mid table they will be nowhere to be seen but you, I would imagine, will still be following the Blues.

That is certainly my take on things and although I don't pretend to speak for Glory and L&P (heaven forbid lads icon_wink.gif ) I would imagine they would feel similar.

Yeah thats exactly what im getting at Loz!

I have met Chelsea Supporters from all over the world as I have met Le*ds and Sp*rs fans from all over the world.

If Maksimov and Dubai Blue read my posts again they'll see what I mean........Im not writing them off at all.

I hate the idea of someone looking out for glory and wearing our shirt.........no matter who they support, its wrong.

and when we get in the ground I will take a photo of the ground before the game and at half time.

BUT.......

..........Some people film the whole game...!!.....

.....there just completley misssing the point mate!!

Get behind the team......... or do1.com.

Maybe its just that Paranoia is setting in for us lads and football supporters are changing??

Or maybe these people should get in the Q for The London Eye on Saturdays!!!

We have one (JCL), who has started coming into the pub for the past couple of months now, and he is the biggest w**ker you could ever imagine, he is in everyone's face and claims to be a lifer originally from Putney, however after asking him a few basic questions about the Chels' have come to the obvious conclusion that he is one of these knobs.

Q: who is your fav all time Chelsea striker ?

A: "KELLY" Dixon

Q: when did you start supporting Chelsea ?

A: when we were in division 3

Q: do you think we will beat the Arse in the final on Sunday?

A: are we at home or away ?

Too right.

However, if Everton suddenly got to 3 Euro semis in 4 years and won Back to Back titles and signed 30 million strikers it would happen there as well.

Guys, its part of the territory im afraid and something we are all going to have to get used to , and the more success we have, sadly the worse its gonna get.

Unfortunately you are right!

But with most things that I dont like......... I find it almost impossible not too say anything about it!

Us supporters have to keep our Voice.

Im not going too be getting used to anything I dont like.....anytime soon.

Spot on loz! Thats exactly how i feel. I don't begrudge any Chelsea fan, foreign or not, that has supported Chelsea for over 4-5 years. Sadly people don't walk around with stickers on their backs saying how long they have supported Chelsea and so, sadly, some proper Chelsea fans get tarred with the same brush as the JCL's.

I've got nothing against you Maksimov and Dubai!

Keep the faith and up the Chelsea!!

Left (was forced out) my country during the '92-'95 war and lived in England for a while. Fell in love with Chelsea. Now I'm far from the Bridge (N. America) and it is not possible for me to go to every match (I still plan trips/vacations). So I cannot be with the rest of the supporters, but there are other ways which I think make me a real Chelsea supporter. Match against Valencia, for example, I went to work 2 hours late and had to hear a lot from my boss about it - just because I wouldn't miss us going to the semis of the CL. I'd take that from my boss anytime for Chelsea. In the pub, where I watched the match live, were both Chelsea and Valencia supporters. At one moment (it was 1:1) while the whole place was singing "Keep the blue flag flying high" and "Come on Chelsea", Valencia fans started singing "f**k off Chelsea". Everyone in the pub was ignoring it and even though we were twice the size of their supporters our supporters just kept singing our songs. I couldn't do that because it was hurting me that someone was saying "f**k off" to something I happen to love. So I walked up to them and in a nice way told them that we came there to support our clubs and they came to support theirs and we can only do that if they respected ours, and if this was Europe, first off, we wouldn't even be in the same pub, and secod, even if we were they would not be able to sing anything bad about Chelsea. They understood me and stopped. Anyway, I started supporting Chelsea long before we won our second Premiership in '04 and long before R.A. bought the club. Even though I'm not English I still love the club. I don't miss any matches and even though I can't always visit the Bridge I live for it.

I don't agree with your post about Everton - if they were to win suddenly there would be the same level of 'support'. I think much has to do with us being a London team. (forget the Manks and Scallies here as if we could) but if the Arse or even Spurts had our level of success in the EPL or Europe for approx 3-5 seasons there would be a mass of supporters coming out of the woodwork saying they had always supported them.

The big test will be (god forbid) mid table and not winning anything. I betcha that it would be easy to get tickets for pretty much any game at SB.

I agree with you here!

But if it were to happen it wouldn't be a complete disaster.....

I mean.... we never could have imagined the situation were currently in 4-5 years ago,I still have to pinch myself.

I just plan to roll with it Lauren!
