dkw Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 FA Have confirmed there will be a winter break in the 2019-2020 season, with have the fixtures played one weekend, the other half the next weekend meaning all teams get a 2 week break.......Sounds like good news. Until you realise the teams not playing on the weekend will more than likely travel to Dubai to take part in a tournament to make some easy cashola.

coco Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 And during those two weeks most of us will turn up for work 10 times, through the traffic jams, all for a moderate wage, probably the kind of money these players blow on a haircut. Compare that to the players back 50 years, no money and no winter breaks. moi, Gol15 and Scott Harris 3
bluedave Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 To be fair, most of our jobs aren't quite as physically demanding as that of a modern professional football player. Ukraine Bolt 1
Scott Harris Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) I honestly don't see the point. 2 weeks is not long at all and they probably won't really be on a break. They will still be training with the team. All i see this doing is making fixtures more complicated than it already is. They have also scrapped 5th round replays ( may as well just scrap replays altogether now ) and moved the F.A cup 5th round to midweek. These changes alone show that it's all got a bit messy because of the 2 week break. Edited June 8, 2018 by Scott Harris

Speak for yourself, would love to see these fairy cakes do some of the things i do for the same wage. Unblocking a sewer drain is top of the list, lets see some sh*t on them soft hands Alvaro get stuck in,(don't tell him to watch out for the backlash when you unblock it). yorkleyblue and Blueblur 2

That's not really what physically demanding means... I wonder if your objection to the midwinter break is simply because you can't stomach the idea of Morata potentially having a nice break in February, if he's even still with us. Ukraine Bolt 1

I’m sure it’s part of the rules that teams aren’t allowed to go off playing lucrative matches because the whole point of it is to give them a break. On a separate note, I don’t even get my 30 minute break everyday, pampered over paid sons of... coco 1

Really? You really think that? You must move in some fairly pampered circles, is all I can say.
Ukraine Bolt Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Deserved break. Most foreign players/managers say the winter break helps them when it comes to Champions league. We often see players get fatigued over the course of a season. The players deserve this.

I certainly don't have to run >10k several times per week. And I even have time (sometimes) to have completely pointless arguments with strangers on the internet. yorkleyblue and Ukraine Bolt 2
Valerie Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 When you think about how we spend our time here, you come to realise how silly and totally pointless it all is. And how we wouldn't want to do without it

My Fitbit regularly records me as doing cardio workouts while at work because I’m running around like a blue arsed fly so speak for yourself! Then I go home and run 5-10k for pleasure and I’m a fat w**ker

It's mostly for that I think, the Champions league disadvantage compared to other leagues at the late stages... Though I don't like the fact that all it took for them to make the break a reality was Pep complaining about it, even after he spent over £200m each transfer window... Ukraine Bolt 1
strider6004 Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 It will be interesting to see how this works out. Straight away the fact this is staggered between 10 teams suggests they want the weekly TV revenue or coverage to continue. Re the players money let's not forget they need to be careful where they go and what they say. Fame comes at a price.
