Loved the response today. Emerson did enough to start taking PL minutes from Alonso.

I expect to see CHO start on Sunday...

Now... On to VAR... There seems to be A LOT of confusion. VAR doesn't look for fouls. It's for Goal reviews, offsides (part of all goal reviews), Red card incidents and mistaken identity.

So when the VAR looks at that, he's looking to see if it should have been a Red card... Close, but I think no... Should it have been a penalty... No, he's outside the Box.

That's it... VAR is done.

It was clearly a blown call by Atkinson, but only two things VAR is looking at.. Penalty or Red Card... So, blame the system, not the actual Video Assistant Referee, IMO that person did his job.

I don't know who was doing the US commentary, but the analyst was awful all game... If he was any good, he would have explained that. I'm usually very impressed with the level of commentary for these games in the US, but that guy was terrible all game. Would have been better off with just the play by play man.

I agree it was just outside the box so no penalty.  But as the last defender surely that foul would be considered a red card offence no?

Anyway thankfully we won despite being on the wrong end of several bad calls over the 2 legs. A big night for us and perhaps will mark a key milestone in Sarri's time here. Lets enjoy our victory and look forward to another final!

Much, much better Chelsea from Saturday.

High tempo from the start and a willingness to get the tackles in and press them anywhere on the pitch.

Giroud was our focal point and how Hazard revelled in his presence and it enabled him to play from the left.

We could have had more before half time.

They came back into it in the second half and yet we still made chances to win it before the penalty shoot out.

Beating Spurs at The Bridge in any Semi Final !

Great !!

The positives for me from this game is Emerson was the best player for us after Kante. The few chances he has been given, he has convince me enough that he is currently better than Alonso as a fullback. Another positive is Giroud, yeah he wasn't the best player for us on the field given how much time he has spent on the bench all this while but he showed that we always need someone who can hold on to the ball in that position and playing him there also gets the best out of Hazard. But unfortunately, we know how strict Sarri is about his tactics. Won't be surprise to see Alonso back soon in the starting line up and Hazard also back as a center forward if the Higuain experiment fail.

Such a great feeling to beat that lot in a penalty shoot-out! Every penalty was quality (although I was nervous as everyone one of ours stepped up to take them). Dier's penalty - couldn't have wished that on anyone else!

Was a decent game. Really good first half - thought we were going to win at a canter. Then the second half not so good and it was back to - why aren't we changing anything and when we do the same old predictable subs that everyone and their dog could predict.

Positives:

Good team display, + the spirit and comradery seems very good. Hard to choose a MOTM - Luiz was great early on but slipped back into bad ways second half. Hazard clearly dictating things and IS our only real match winner but would probably go for Kante who was just everywhere.

Negatives;

Thought Barkley was very poor again - not sure he knows what he is supposed to be doing but just constantly gives the ball away. And leaving it so late to make changes and then those changes not being the right ones. Could have ended up costing us but f**k it who cares we're off to another Final!

I think there is a lot of confusion about VAR and when exactly it should be used, especially amongst fans. The commentators really should inform themselves though and explain the process more clearly to the viewer whenever VAR is being used. If people mistakenly believe VAR is being used wrongly then it could breed mistrust and hold back it's adoption in the PL, which would be a shame as clearly referees need all the help they can get.

Despite all the positives, last night showed us our massive need for a finisher. The game should have been over at half time and we should have scored again at least twice in the second half.

Higuain needed.

very happy we put that failure of a team back to their place- winning nothing. We played really well, and this is Chelsea all of us want to see, combative, direct, giving it all.

On to Wembley, still in all 4 competitions - PL., two cups and EL. Call me crazy, but if Higuain is only 50% better than our current strikers, I still think we can catch Man City and Liverpool. Especially Liverpool they have a tradition to implode in April - May.

In the next 4 games, we have a chance to climb above Spuds in the PL, I hope we continue to play like today and win games.

Come on Chelsea ::ChELSeAFaN::

Still buzzing! A great performance, and in truth we performed well across both legs, even the first one when their star men were playing. Difference was we actually managed to get the ball in the net tonight! I was glad to see Emerson in (he did well and should've had at least one assist) and Hazard not playing as a false 9. With Higuain here now I hope that's an end to that. I loved our energy right from the start for a change, and the way we played far more direct and got the ball forward as quickly as possible. I'd rather have got the job done and dusted within the 90 mins, but winning on pens, at the Bridge, with Dier skying one and Jorginho mugging them off, was just as sweet! I can only imagine their rage at that, especially when he was laughing and joking about it after :laugh2:

Seen a few of their lot going on about 'yeah well it was our B team', but that's part of football. Games can't wait until everyone is fit and a club isn't represented by only one set of 11 players. If they don't have players good enough on the bench then there's no moral high ground, your team just isn't good enough and doesn't deserve to go through. Simple. And I say that knowing full well that if, for example, Hazard, Kante and Dave were all out we'd likely have been in some trouble too!

We've beaten City once this season and we can be a bit mercurial at times, losing and looking uninspired in some games, but then being bang up for it when we least expect it. Either way, getting to a final can only be a good thing and it was a great response after the Arsenal game and the fallout from that. Onwards and upwards! ::ChELSeAFaN::

Improved performance, even the opposition was missing some key players. We created plenty, I'd like to believe we'd won that easily if Giroud was match fit and Higuain could have played some minutes. Apart from the poor finishing and the odd lapse in concentration, we dominated, would be criminal had we lost on penalities. Hazard is better playing at left, and with a fast left back he'd look more comfortable. Kante is playing more like an attacking player, hopefully he'd get a few more soon. Higuain must like what he saw, bet he'd finish 1 of those chances Giroud had, couple of through balls to Giroud were superb. For once the left flank didn't look that bad with Emerson playing there, speed really helps in that position, it's no rocket science. I like how he just kept it simple and play like a normal left back, Alonso just cut in every opportunity and ended up forcing Hazard out wide, taken away our best offensive options.

Jorginhos penalty is possibly my favourite Chelsea pen since Ashley coles in the final.

Dave’s was pretty dynamic too

Without Giroud on the pitch the second goal just doesn't happen. By having that focal point it was Giroud that made the near post run, effectively taking the defenders back to their goal and creating the space for Hazard to finish. It was a critical piece of awareness as it forced Dier into the error of dropping too deep. With a false 9 that doesn't happen as there simply isn't a runner. With Morata, sadly, he just doesn't have the spatial awareness to make that kind of run.

It was excellent play by Giroud, cleared the space for Hazard taking 2 defenders with him, real quality striker movement.

Like many have said still buzzing. Could not stop singing in the shower this morning.

One question for the learned readers of this forum.

What is worse homophobia or racism?

Clearly the answer is they are as bad as each other.

If Chelsea use the Y word, then all hell breaks out.

If Spuds walk to the ground under escort singing Chelsea rent boys, then not a murmur.

The authorities need to wise up and address this hypocrisy.

Just a shame that he can't seem to score, whatever he does.  He had several excellent chances last night.  I think he has some sort of hoodoo-voodoo curse on him.

That result was down to old school Chelsea, hitting teams with pace, it’s when we're great.

If & huge if, Sarri can harness that into his system, we’ll be unbeatable. I said it earlier, when we could we bypassed Jorginho and moved the ball into dangerous positions instead of pissing around with it.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer, but watch the video Sarri and learn from it & you'll do well.

Do you not think that is how sarri has been trying get us to play all season? Or did the players take matters into there own hands and now sarri has to learn from them?

It's like you are saying sarri actually wants us to play slow ponderous football with no attacking edge.

A striker definately helped last night, but the players havent been executing the game plan well enough for a couple of months, even when giroud or morata have played.

The reason we we able to play more direct, was down to how quickly we were moving the ball, and much improved the movement was off it.

Yep. He's like a luxury player who you put in the team to make the side function better but know you wont get many goals from him.

When he put that header wide last night a few of us all said at the same time "That's why you don't get picked every week!"
