That's what worries me. If we don't get the result on Sunday I think we'll be in serious trouble. I know that sounds mad, but unfortunately it's the modern game for you. And once the rot starts it rarely stops. Frank needs more time.

Or alternatively, when the luck turns, we'll go on one hell of a winning run .... the potential of this team/squad is frightening !!!!

They were pretty much full strength apart from Alisson, and we had Rudiger, Willian, RLC and CHO all missing. Great effort from the lads !

I’d have had Pedro take no 5.

Still thought team looked good tonight. Emerson looks a real pro, Jorginho a class act, Zouma growing into role.

‘Also thought mason mount really looks a player and while Tammy needs to get his confidence up and take his chance you certainly knew he was on the park and his holdup-Kay was pretty good.

We may yet have an ok season.

Kepa has weak hands, he needs to work on that. Still proud of our boys tonight. We showed we can go toe to toe with the European champs.

He's ten cm too short for pens. Tibo saves those by virtue of his longer arms. But Kepa played well.

Kante and Jorginho were great as were Pedro, Dave and Emerson. I thought we looked very solid without the ball. Once again we just didn't have a cutting edge.

Almost... no complaints... a great Team effort. Brilliant to see the youngsters play.

Just the one obvious observation from me...

**Caballero is our specialist penalty saver** ... definitely not Arriz.

Arrizabalaga has won us two penalty shoot out's. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have gotten to the League Cup and Europa League finals last season.

Better from Zouma tonight, but he still gives me the willies every time he gets the ball ... ?

Lol. Know what you mean. Mind you if it all goes wrong for him he’d make a great bouncer.

Kepa has saved 1 or 2 in every pen shoot out he's had with us until tonight.

Probably shouldve saved 1 tonight, but theres no point bringing on a 38 year old goalkeeper, when it is surely best to have your long term goalkeeper gain even more confidence in shoot outs.

Unfortunate but biggest thing is we showed a reaction after the Man Utd battering. Actually was really impressed by Zouma tonight. Won everything in the air and looked a lot better. Don't have criticism for any player tonight. Thought Kante and Kovacic in particular was outstanding. Need a win against Leicester now.

That’s hypothetical mate. Willy might have saved penalties in those shootouts as well. That’s like me saying with Willy, we would have won tonight. We have no way of knowing but Kepa has let in more than the two tonight where he’s got a good hand on it and let it squirm past him.

Feeling that strange combination of gutted and pleased at the same time. Excellent performance from us, should have won it in regular time. Also we need to spend a new World Record amount on a striker next summer.

I did, and clearly the players and fans that spent a lot of money to be there did too. I question anybody's support for the club if they don't care much about a cup final. You only get to play in this game if you win one of the major European trophies, it's not a game that comes around often.

I’m sure everyone cares but it’s easier to play in down beforehand just in case you loose.

Winning would have been good tonight, especially for frank and the youngsters in the team but more important tonight was the performance and to show that we can battle it out with one of the so called best.

Onwards and upwards.

And James. My concenrs last season that Dave is showing the early signs of the Ivan decline have not gone away. I think James could be big for us.

Yes! That's why I think Sunday is so important to us. If we win that match and avoid any drama, I think we'll be all right. Our next 3 fixtures after that are favourable.

You can add James to that list. When he is fit he will definitely be getting on the pitch for a good number of games.

Kepa has better penalty save ratio than courtois.

Kepa has saved 5 out of 19

Courtois has saved 7 out of 41

Cant find the shoot out records, but id hazard a guess kepa come out on top aswell.

Eh? Courtois has an awful record from penalty kicks, he rarely saves them. Arrizabalaga already has a better record than he has from penalties.

And added to this, the two saves that Kepa should have made, he failed to do so by diving in the same manner as Courtois by bringing his feet up and diving too high rather than pouncing to the corner.

People need to be patient, we have a new manager and young players all that people wanted. We knew it would take time and that we might not be as competitive,  judging by where people think we will finish this season on this site.

Second game in we’ve controlled large parts of a game against a team that finished runners up in the league and won the champions league. We played well in parts on Sunday, so learn from mistakes and take our chances and I think we could have a good season.

Great little interchanges in midfield. Really impressed with how Frank/Jody wants us to play and I think everyone associated with the club can hold their heads high. Feeling quite positive despite the defeat - I just hope we keep the faith & continue to play the same way. It’s great to watch.

Penalty aside, I genuinely think Tammy is the weakest of our youngsters. I’m really not convinced he’s going to be strong enough at this level. I worry where our goals are going to come from.

Mason looks an amazing prospect whilst Tomori seems very assured (and rapid!). Think we have two diamonds on our hands there.

Tough to take another loss, and one for silverware as well, but genuinely expected us to get smashed again and we didn't! A big improvement from the weekend, and hopefully a sign of the direction we're going in and lessons being learnt quickly. It was an insanely tough start to the season under a new boss, with new, young players in the team, so all we can do is take the positives, and hope the season finally gets going at the weekend.

I thought we played some nice football at times and our passing and movement in the middle looked crisp and slick, and some good long balls were played out wide. Also good to see us not afraid to shoot from time to time. I genuinely thought we had the better opportunities in that game and looked the better team over the full distance, but you could see their attackers had the edge in terms of quality and taking the chances they got, as seemed to be the case against United. Hopefully when CHO is back, and the likes of Pulisic and Mount are up and running (and hopefully one of our strikers!) we'll be in an even better place.

Think that game came at a really good time to put a few things right quickly, probably could have done without ET.

Abraham is this weeks Zouma...it will probably be Mount next. At least give them a season.

Thought the whole team played well and don't think I've ever been less disappointed to lose against those 2 (or lose and draw), even if it was 4-0 and a chance of silverware.

Looking forward to Saturday and Leicester.
