It can be argued that somebody like Gilmour will be wasted if he is asked to play so deep throughout his career. With his passing ability, I think somebody like him should be much more involved in attacks. 

I think the opposite, his best performances come when he's dictating from deep, whenever he's played higher up he's looked pretty ordinary.

He also made an “attempt” to play the ball so wouldn’t have been sent off anyway as the penalty is deemed punishment enough.
