timetowaste Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 This is what I'd probably pick, difficult to say what potter will do tbh we don't even know what formation he's going to play yet but I imagine it will still involve a back 3 for this game Night-T 1

Yeah that's my point none of them apart from Sterling and possibly Aubameyang (if he isn't past it) are particularly great, people expecting an improvement on the football we had under Tuchel are going to be sorely dissappointed
ozboy Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 James fof kk chiller gallagher Jorginho mount Havertz Auba/Broja. Sterling
LongtimerLurker Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Expect him to keep it roughly the same not too many drastic changes whilst the players settle in to his methods. Personally feel Kepa should start over Mendy but he may choose to go for Mendy to keep harmony Mendy Fofana Silva Koulibaly James Jorginho Kovacic Chilwell Sterling Mount Aubameyang He's known for playing 3atb but apparently has lined up with a back 4 every now and then so could see a 4231/442/433 Personally if I was coach I'd line up with a 433 😉 I drop Mendy because I think he needs some games on the bench to remember what competition for places feels like again. Really because it's a back 4 Koulibaly should start over Silva because of age but I still rate Silva as our best player when Kanté isn't fit. Havertz in false 9 as sole striker in his best position, Mount pushing into a number 10 role in attack but doubling up as a number 8 with his workrate. Kova playing as 8 but also coming back to help Jorgi basically using a kind of Sarri skeleton. I don't buy 433 doesn't work with this team Sarri used it and despite the reliance on Eden we had some games without him where we still won definitely. Lamps made it work but, he was too top heavy. With Havertz dropping into midfield to help build up play and confuse the defenders Sterling and Aubameyang make runs outside in with Kova, Mount, Kai, Jorgi, James and Chilwell tasked with playing balls in behind to break the defensive line. With this line up we have actual elite wingers or players that can score goals on the wing with no excuses. Only issue relies in chance creation. Fofana will be the mobile defender whilst Silva uses his wits and positioning to read play. Don't believe that Jorgi can't play holding role by himself he is a very capable player. Chilwell and James playing as more traditional fullbacks with one pushing forward whilst the other stays back to form the back 3 base we are used to playing and when this happens Kova can sit back to form the 32 base of three defenders and midfielders. As this system is more defensively open, likely the teams we play that park are more likely to open up themselves. Battle won in midfield, if Jorgi isn't marked out of the game he can dictate play but rather than slow sideways passing from every player. When ball is played to their feet instructed to try more 1 touch football, direct passing forward in triangles progressing the ball both centrally and through the wings. Havertz tasked with advanced playmaker role creating space for teammates to attack the box through vacating central spaces, popping up all over the pitch and looking to play forward as much as possible. Good sub options for all positions on the bench, Gallagher for Mount, RLC a midfield option and the new Zak guy. Cucurella for Chillwell, Puli and Ziyech for the wings back in their ideal positions. Broja up top moving away from false 9 and more to an out and out striker. Koulibaly for Silva, Azpil for James and asked to play more as flat sitting rb that doesn't push forward more closer to when he plays rcb. Kova could also play Jorgi role. Ofc this is just my football could be fun to watch could be a disaster 😂 Kepa James Fofana Silva Chilwell Jorginho Mount Kovacic Sterling Havertz Aubameyang coco and Gentian 2
nonotnowjim Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 I would go with 4 at the back. the 4 most contentious issues would be: 1) Kepa in for Mendy. The change in manager gives us another role of the dice to try and get some value out of Kepa. Mendy has been trash, and can use the excuse of injury from the brutal kicking he got against the pikeys. 2) Silva dropped. I think we need to try a 4 at the back, and simply think Silva suits a 5 better. Marginal call, but went with K2 3) Cucu retains over chilly. I prefer chilly, but think in a 4, and given fitness and existing knowledge of potterball, it is best to stick with cucucachoo 4) Jorgi stays. He is the player that I think dictates our style, so this would be with the big caveat of instructing him to move the ball forwards, quickly....nto backwards or sideways all the time. IF he cant do that, drop him for RLC, Trev, Zakaria - whoever! Night-T 1

There is no way he scores 20 goals in this team, not with the style of play we have been churning out. We simply dont make enough chances, and he isnt a player who can create for himself. He can fall over himself, without anyone near him, but not create a chance. Scott Harris 1
loz Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Not going to bother naming an eleven but whatever formation he plays, and assuming everyone is fit, then I'd expect the following to be automatic starters bar rotation Silva Kante James Sterling Chilwell Mount (despite poor form so far) Cucurella will clearly be in contention due to history with Potter.
