Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

May as well give him a thread.

In 24 hours reports from Portuguese Media originally are claiming the club have sent over representatives to discuss a move. The club are paying above the player's release clause in order to burden the tax liability. (£112m)

This is the most recent news from Romano.

Quote

Fabrizio Romano: "Enzo Fernandez will only leave if a club will trigger the 120m euros release clause. His agent is coming to Europe to discuss with clubs. The Premier League is the most likely destination."

No mention of Chelsea though, yet.

It sounds surrealistic at the moment.

But hands down, if we get Enzo, in January... Van Dijk? forget about it... Aubameyang? Forget about it... El ñino Torres? Forget about it... It will be the biggest bomb of a transfer the PL has ever witnessed.

So in other words, this won't happen.

The question is should it? A soemone else mentioned, 13 games in the Portuguese league

He's quality and a gamble worth taking. This lad has a skill set I will be jealous of if any other club signs him.

If Enzo does want to join, I think its in the best interest for everyone to work up a deal similar to Nkunku, where we create an installment plan and he stays with Benfica till the end of the season and just hope he doesn't suffer a knee injury.

The only thing I'd be critical of is that we didn't have the foresight to get him straight from River Plate.

This is only the 4th time I've been this level of desperate to sign a player (Crespo, Kante and Hazard being the other 3, and I would have happily have seen us pay double for the latter two, which when you consider post Neymar to PSG inflation was probably just as "excessive").

Too much of a high profile player for us. Doesn't feel like our signing.

Feels more to me like an American Franchise Player type signing, and what I expect from our business going forward. Trying to spot these talents early, but going for the cream of the crop and paying huge sums for them.

Apparently we have told Dortmund we will better any bid for Jude, and Todd will throw world record fees both in transfer and wages to land Mbappe if he ever decides to leave PSG.

That kind of flies in the face of a good business model though doesn't it. Surely the business model to look to develop is the one that creates a Mbappe,  not one that buys him at him peak monetary value.

Should be a nice bonus for the scouting system that brought him to Benfica. Close on 120m euro profit in 6 months is impressive and possibly the fee at the peak of his market.

While it is impressive It's more a reflection on how f**ked the Argentina economy is more than anything else, same way how City got Alvarez for next to nothing.

By comparison Palmeiras managed to get 70 odd million for Endrick.

As f**ked as their economy is, they had more fans travel to Qatar than any other country. Must be the ability to get YouTube premium for only 12 quid per annum plus the cheap Xbox games they can acquire.
It’s still a good buy at the price, Benfica aren’t particularly flush with cash so still a risk for them. Though he could never have signed for us or another PL side under the same conditions,as third party ownership isn’t allowed.

Yes, I mean in most cases we develop our own talents and save money that way but other top talents will still come through and become a Michael Jordan, a Payton Manning or a John Cena and they will want that star shining at Chelsea imo.

Nothing strange if we do get to sign some cream of the crop and cherry on top, in fact we have already done it prior to the new owners so whatever Todd is doing it's not new. The only new thing is that he picked Potter for a long term project, Roman ultimately didn't care who's at the wheel as long as the ship gets the prize.

With that said, I firmly believe that Mbappe can't decide to leave PSG. Verratti was supposed to go to Barcelona and he simply wasn't let to change clubs during his best years, now he's 30 years old and PSG will let him leave once it's clear to everyone there that his time has passed, he has spent 10 years there. PSG owners don't care to gain from selling players, Mbappe might even dream of playing for Real Madrid but that will have to wait till he has actually passed his peak or something like that, after all look at his current wages.

Mbappe is only under contract to 2024 with the option of a further year. It is mammoth money but any new challenge would be under a new negotiation. If he wants to leave he will under his own terms and just entering his peak!

I think I know you mean, IMO would be a great signing but just seem like one that is unlikely that we could get over the line.

Hope I’m wrong of course, but to beat the cream of Europe to a signing like that just sounds like it has much more chance of not happening than it happening.

Mbappe could have left on a free this summer, he was a fool not to.

He can't, PSG won't let him just watch him sign a new contract once again.
