I can understand going after McKenna, because getting double promoted is still some feat

But on what planet does winning the championship with Leicester count as a great achievement worth the Chelsea job?

Couldn't even go for the exciting Championship candidate in McKenna. I'll back Maresca if he comes, but I'm not terribly optimistic. Objective for the season would be to finish top half of the table.

This might be the least optimistic I've been about a Chelsea manager

A lot of Leicester fans were calling for him to be sacked just a few months ago

Why .. he talks and looks like a assistant coach..

Couple reasons I reckon. On the face of it its a poor appointment, but...

A.) Transition should be smooth. His football is very similar to what Poch was playing at the end of the season (Inverted full back, 3-2-2-3 set up.) The only difference being that Poch very much preferred quick transition whereas Maresca is more possession focused.

B.) A lot of our players are tailored to his football. Added bonus he has coached Palmer and Lavia at the City youth level.

Looks like ownership want to try their luck with the Pep disciple experiment. What worries me the most is his hard focus on possession where it allows the opposition to sit back, however after watching some of Leicester's football they did seem to play the ball rather quickly when needed. The other issue is that Maresca wanted control over a lot of aspects of the club. Wouldn't he find the exact same issue here, much like Poch? Unless this is where Joe Shields comes in given they've worked together?

2 plus 1 is the same Poch got. Media said new manager gets longer deal than Poch, media said RDZ agreed a 3 plus 1 deal yesterday and McKenna was favorite a few days ago.

Media reports what the club tells them to report.

Enzo divides opinion. On one hand he's done what was asked (and for many expected) but on the other hand there's many that aren't convinced his brand of football works when you're in the lower echelons of a division as you don't have the technical superiority anymore.

This is why I wouldn’t be to bothered about losing him tbh. I’d much prefer a coach/manager that was pragmatic as opposed to one that’s dogmatic.
Trying to play out from the back in the PL with our squad is a recipe for disaster, however Chelsea have a far far superior squad and so he might be successful given time.
Either way he’s about to become a lot richer so good luck to him.

At this point I am just numb to any appointment. I get the managerial situation is up in the air at the moment and when you have the likes of Kompany going to Bayern after getting Burnley relegated then who knows what you are meant to think. If it is Enzo then good luck to him but I have no faith in the people above him and ever since they stepped foot through the door they have made it harder and harder to like them.

They have a yes man now and when things turn south they all need to be called out not the manager.  Last chance for Winstanley and Stewart.

This is the issue facing anyone coming in. Joe Shields or no Joe Shields they will be answerable to Winstanley and his mate and the higher ups. A coach who toes the line. That's why I'd be gobsmacked if RDZ were a contender. He opted out of Brighton for pretty much the same reason Poch wanted out. The hierarchy are seriously limiting the options.

Leicester should have won the title with a leg in the air. They had sufficient ex-PL players often found wanting at PL level but much too good at Championship level.

Potter mark 2

I'd be more optimistic if we'd retired Potter

People are saying hes a possession guy when he gets 47% of the ball at home to West Brom. Not everybody on man city's backroom staff is Pep Guardiola ffs.

Maybe if this doesn't work out we can hire City's kit man next.

It's not too dissimilar with Maresca. Looking forward to facing the same issue in 12 months time where a manager wants more say.

Pep has always been questioned in how he would do at a club with less resources and less technical players, I'm not sure we should immediately rule Maresca out in seeing any progress given a lot of Leicester fans have been adamant they don't have the players with the technical quality to play his brand of football. We do.

Nothing against Maresca personally, but I think we as a fanbase have the utmost right to raise our expectations. We were on an upward trajectory under Poch and to see anything next season that steers us off course should justify frustration and resentment.

The thing that is baffling is that even if Maresca does come good eventually, he will certainly not hit the ground running. He'll need at the very least a full season to process being in charge of a PL team, let alone have the players buy into his style. That would have been fine if he was the first appointment under the new regime, he'd be entering year 3 now. This board has proved that patience is not their thing, despite all the things they say about a project. He will not be given time.

On the up side, when all of this goes inevitably pear shaped in a few months, hopefully it will spell the end of our inept sporting directors.

I disagree. He needs to have an immediate impact, or else what's the point? Ownership & the Directors would be deliberately sabotaging any progression.

A week is a long time in football.

This time last week I was genuinely excited by the upcoming season after finishing the season with five consecutive wins. There was a sense of optimism and cautious excitement we could be pushing top 4 under Poch. No guarantees we would have kicked on, but I think the probability of further improvement was on the horizon with a season under his belt and the players enjoying playing under him.

Today, I’m despondent by our prospects and fear a difficult season ahead. Any last vestiges of any soul or spirit we had has been ripped apart by our owners and sporting directors. Never been so deflated heading into a new season.

If next season is a calamity, the fans are going to be fuming. I fear a reckoning is coming with the ownership sooner rather than later.
