Confidence is high on Merseyside after the Reds finished the current campaign strongly, culminating in last week?s Champions League final defeat to AC Milan.

The guy who wrote this article should be a comedian.

Oh soddit. This is too good to waste:

Manchester United are formidable competitors, Arsenal are one year older with brilliant young players and Chelsea are perhaps the greatest club in the world. They're not going to get any worse

Which means that a certain person (see the first post in this thread) thinks that L*v*rp**l will be lucky to finish FOURTH next season.

I can see those Scouse gits now, abandoning ship like the rats they are .. jumping in the Mersey ... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Picked this up off another forum:

QUOTE from PremierLeague.com

Liverpool's American co-owner George Gillett has cast doubt over his club's ability to claim the Barclays Premiership title next season.

But although the arrival of the Americans has guaranteed a substantial summer war chest for the Spaniard, Gillett is not convinced the likes of United and Chelsea can be caught straight away.

He said: ?I don't know if we are capable of challenging for the title next year. We want to make progress but it is a multiple-year programme. We want to challenge but we won't do it overnight."

?Manchester United are formidable competitors, Arsenal are one year older with brilliant young players and Chelsea are perhaps the greatest club in the world. They're not going to get any worse.

"I don't know if we are capable of challenging for the title next year," stated the American.

Good to see the BBC's high standards of accuracy in their reporting. Outrageous editing/ censorship of what was actually said.

Funny to see how anti-Chelsea they are.

backbiter, whether the bbc are biased against us or not is maybe another argument... but I don't think that is an example at all...

okay, for us, the story is gillett saying we're the greatest club in the world, but the story from the bbc's perspective is not about that- it's about the liverpool chairman thinking they might not be able to challenge for the title next year. I don't see it as outrageous, but normal- seems like an interview was given and the key comments that relate to the beeb's story have remained.

Maybe, maybe not. Interesting that the BBC chose to leave that particular phrase out of their report though. I suppose you could argue the relevance of it's omission either way. This was how the Sporting Life reported the same story:

Manchester United are formidable competitors, Arsenal are one year older with brilliant young players and Chelsea are perhaps the greatest club in the world. They're not going to get any worse.

There's a slight difference of emphasis; the Premier League and Sporting Life headlines, respectively are:

GILLETT DOUBTFUL ABOUT REDS' TITLE HOPES

and

GILLETT DOUBTFUL ABOUT TITLE

whereas the BBC goes with

Parry plays down Benitez reports

I still think I'd go with Gillett's full comment myself, if only for the sake of accurate reporting.

me too... but do we know who he was speaking to? was it originally a televised interview? or a press release? because there's a chance none of the reports are his full quotes. I honestly don't know. kenyon can come on and talk on chelsea tv for 20 minutes about contracts and marketing etc and you can end up with a 50 word article where he says "talks with terry have broken down", and the rest is seen as irrelevant to the story.

This isn't clear. The Daily Mail's take on the same story is almost identical to that of the Sporting Life and Premier League.

Not one of them mentions who the story, apparently based on a conversation between Gillett Benitez, was written by or the original source. It could be it's a syndicated story, perhaps based on a Liverpool press release. Got to love this headline from the Daily Mail:

Benitez reveals the pressures that threaten to tear Liverpool apart

And from the same article, a picture that needs a caption:

I read that Gillet coment about us and thought he has to be kidding 'cos that will go down like an horse sh*t sandwich on Merseyside.

Anybody who say's there is'nt an anti Chelsea media campaign out there is mental. In fact its so blatent some people cant see it, Sky, ITV the BBC and almost every paper are at it. Look at the credit we got for winning the cup, oh thats right we got none.We ruined the final.

Chelsea 2 trophies

UTD 1

Liverpool 0

Arsenal 0

But according to the media we are in crisses and our season was'nt good enough. Work that out.
