Newcastle seek loan for Chelsea's Ben Haim

tribalfootball.com - January 03, 2008

Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce is moving for Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim.

The Israel centre-back has started only nine Premier League games this term, but with John Terry injured and Ricardo Carvalho banned the 25-year-old has been thrown into the fray at Stamford Bridge.

But Allardyce, who coached the Israel international while the pair were at Bolton, is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and has reportedly requested to take Ben Haim on loan until the end of the season.

Allardyce has limited cash available and a temporary switch would boost a Magpies defence which has conceded 33 goals in 21 Premier League games.

Allardyce is also bracing himself for the loss of Habib Beye, Claudio Cacapa, Jose Enrique and Abdoulaye Faye to African Nations Cup duty.

should we loaned him out or sell him.i tink we shud sell him

If we get that Serbian kid that looks so clever, I would be willing to talk. Otherwise, the lesson of "dont sell without replacing" is one we have already learned the hard way

I guess it would be a similar situation to Huthie, a few years back. Young, fourth choice guy who can hopefully take his opportunities and grow when he gets them. In my opinion, selling Huthie was a big mistake

If he is happy to be 4th choice , lets keep him

Whats the point of loaning him out??

A year ago in the middle of our injury crisis when we approached Bolton Allardyse put a serious money tag on Ben Haim that forced us to sit and wait till summer to sign him on a free which we eventually did.

Now suddenly he wants Ben Haim for free. Go f.ck yourself Big Sam.

Sell him! If we get this Serbian lad, we've got 5 centre-backs, or 6 if you count Boulahrouz out on loan.

Ben Haim has been crap for us so far, I can't see any reason to keep him - from what he's shown so far, he's no better than Boulahrouz.

As usual BlueBeard talks sense.

But make it a sale not a loan. Unless it's the type of loan deal we can recall him with a week's notice (sudden injury crisis). Then I could see the sense of a loan. But otherwise...

Going a bit far there aren't ya BlueBeard?............

I mean he hasn't set the world on fire (you hardly expect him to as a 4th choice CB), but no better than Boulahrouz?. Thats just pushing it too far icon_razz.gif

At least Boulahrouz had a great game against Barca....Ben Haim has done nothing since his arrival.

I say sell him, don't loan him because GOD knows we have been taken to the cleaners too many times over these stupid loan deals. If this serbian kid is actually being signed, we will have him Carvs, Terry, Mancienne, and Alex. I say we cash in on TBH
