September 27, 200816 yr Stuff like that makes football pointless. I mean, why does everyone bother when things like that happen and turn matches ?
September 27, 200816 yr I blame Red Rob Styles for that more than Ronaldo. Didn't seem like he was really appealing for one, and looked downright embarrassed after scoring it.
September 27, 200816 yr Author I blame Red Rob Styles for that more than Ronaldo. Didn't seem like he was really appealing for one, and looked downright embarrassed after scoring it. really? watch it again, ronaldo goes down and drags his leg into samuel. he knew exactly what he was doing. styles should hang his head in shame, it was clearly an excellent tackle.
September 27, 200816 yr I blame Red Rob Styles for that more than Ronaldo. Didn't seem like he was really appealing for one, and looked downright embarrassed after scoring it. I agree. Wait till you see it on the tv. Not one Man Utd player made a claim. Utter joke.
September 27, 200816 yr Obvious dive, great tackle, joke decision, homer ref. That's two great dives he's got away with in two games. Impressive.
September 27, 200816 yr Even old red nose said he was surprised the penalty was given. Same old Rob Styles.
September 27, 200816 yr Sorry, but I cant blame Ronaldo for that one either. Moving at high speeds on divergent courses, any kind of contact is gonna result in someone going to ground. He didnt raise his hands above his head, and didnt even appeal for the penalty. People were saying even the Manc players had a bewildered look on their faces. Granted, he couldve just shot it wide to be sporting, but if the blame is anywhere, its with Styles. On the heels of the Watford/Reading saga, this looks very bad
September 27, 200816 yr I agree. Wait till you see it on the tv. Not one Man Utd player made a claim. Utter joke. Stan Collymore and his mate on Talksport were going absolutely mental over the call. Publically called Ronald a cheat.
September 27, 200816 yr Sorry lads I call it like I see it and Ronaldo did NOT dive that time. He is a diving, cheating portugese w**k*r, and it was not a penalty, but again not a dive either. The Bolton player got the ball, or some of it, but he got enough on Ronaldo to take him down. Watch very carefully he does not start to fall over till after contact with his left foot. Anyway I don't know why I'm wasting my breath defending Ronaldo, but yeh don't think that's a dive.
September 27, 200816 yr If you want to call a dive, check out the one last week with him and Frank. Frank's leg was over a foot away, and Ronaldo went to ground, be good if someone could find a video of that!

September 28, 200816 yr I know it was in jest , but all the samem, didn't Red nose say that Styles still owes us 4 or 5 penalties would it be more helpful to the sport in general if he said I need to speak to the player. Which I hope big Phil did to Ballack against Port mouth
September 28, 200816 yr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YR_pvybezoright there, just shows how much of a "world class" player he is So he dives and roll around dramatically, doesn't mean he isn't 'world class' player. Leo Messi's theatrical roll-around when he saw the ref coming over against Del Horno was worse imo. How about Robben rolling around and holding his face after Reina softly pushed him? Granted, Reina shouldn't have pushed him in the first place but it doesn't excuse his theatrical and other dives. It doesn't mean those two players aren't 'world class', tho, does it?
September 28, 200816 yr JT26CFC, I'll put it right for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YR_pvybezoright there, just shows how much of a world class diver he is
September 28, 200816 yr he's had that much practice he's now learnt to disguise his dives, he does it week in week out and will continue to do so at the end of the day he's a cheat
September 28, 200816 yr he's had that much practice he's now learnt to disguise his dives, he does it week in week out and will continue to do soat the end of the day he's a cheat Bit like Didier then? And Arjen before him? And Joey isn't too clever either. At the end of the day many of ours are just as bad however without doubt Rob Styles is a prat. MOTD showed a selection of non-penalties he's given recently including the one we got against Liverscum at their place last season.
September 28, 200816 yr he's had that much practice he's now learnt to disguise his dives, he does it week in week out and will continue to do soat the end of the day he's a cheat TBH, I did wish Robben spent time learning how to dive properly before he went to R Madrid. Might as well do it well and get us penalties or free-kicks if he likes to dive a lot. :P
September 28, 200816 yr TBH, I did wish Robben spent time learning how to dive properly before he went to R Madrid. Might as well do it well and get us penalties or free-kicks if he likes to dive a lot. :P For me that is just plain wrong. Either criticise players for diving and don't be hypocritical when it comes to your own or just say 'what the hell, everyone should do it if they can get away with it' I hated it every time Robben, Drogba and Joe went down too easily and the blackest point in Makelele's Chelsea career was his dive against Monaco. Punishments for diving should be very severe but sadly the footballing bodies don't have the bottle to do anything about it.

Yeah, well, if somehow our divers dived in an important match and got us a penalty which won us the match. Imagine it's the Champions League final or the match which decide who wins the league (theory here)... I may not like it when he did it but I'd be lying if I say I don't want that penalty, you know?
September 28, 200816 yr I dont like it when our players dive either but compared to them were angels. Drogba and Joe have both cut alot of it out in the past two seasons and i dont understand what the fuss over the Ballack incident at Portsmouth is about as it was as clear a peanlty as you could ever see.
September 28, 200816 yr I think there is a difference between wanting the penalty on the spur of the moment when adrenalin is high and the stakes are even higher and, actively wanting your players t be better at doing it to enhance your chances of getting dodgy penalties. To generally want your players to be better divers is, for me, on a par with managers getting their players to actively practice it in training. A sport which actively look for ways of improving how to cheat is on very dangerous grounds. Just look at what it has done to sports like cycling an athletics (I grant you these are extreme cases and drug use isn't the same things as diving)

The Chelsea fans and the Chelsea staff had enough of Didier diving, they didn't want it at our club. What does Didier do? He stops doing it. It has been night and day from Didier of years past and Didier of recent. Ronaldo on the other hand, seems to like it. And the United fans seem content with it in the club. September 28, 200816 yr Punishments for diving should be very severe but sadly the footballing bodies don't have the bottle to do anything about it. I couldn't agree more , in this day and age with all the premiership matches televised it would be simple to review each match and any blatant dive punished. Personally I would punish both the player and the manager...a few touchline bans would soon get the message across.Cheating should be stamped out.

Just look at what it has done to sports like cycling an athletics (I grant you these are extreme cases and drug use isn't the same things as diving) True, but then I'd call myself a hypocrite because to dive once in a while (and won a penalty for a REALLY important match) is okay while it is not okay to do it often. Robben's diving seemed to get worse as time goes when he was with us, so I thought if he isn't going to stop, he might as well do it properly and stop getting silly yellows instead of penalties/free kicks. Geezer - Ronaldo cannot be compared to Didier. I think it's because he gets them penalties and free-kicks with his diving, while Drogba's diving doesn't. They may not like it, but if his diving won them matches, how can they complain? No. Similar thing applies here...
