Academy not delivering

I am all for giving youth a chance however let's not forget it's a business we are running here.... alongside a football club; its about profit and loss, not about giving kids any 'real' opportunity play to enhance their careers, but to enhance their value.  If we were a mid table team I am sure the kids would have more opportunities, firstly because as a mid table team your not going to be buying 30mil+ players so you have to give the young players a chance and hope you find a gem in there somewhere, hence we farm our kids out to mid table teams, lower league teams or bottom feeders to give them game time, showcase them and hopefully make some money while they go on to have hopefully successful careers.  Whereas at the lofty end of the table if you want to win things these days you need the very best players which include, unfortunately, internationals warming the bench, and if a 17-20 year old player expects to be playing over the them he best give his head a shake unless he really is an exceptional player such as the Neymar's of the world and guess what, they don't grow on trees. These players come along once in a lifetime and if you happen to be the club in the right place at the right time then you will be successful or make a ton of money.  However, that is not to say that a young player cannot be given playing time and slowly introduced to a higher level of football they can, but only as a fringe squad player, chances of regular first team football within this club for a youth player is sadly IMO still very far away given the ambitions of this owner and manager plus the players we have.

We have a home cup game against a team that are 2 leagues below us and today would have been perfect to include more of our youthies in, it's all well and good that Jose says he wants to start using the academy but playing one and having one on the bench in a game like this doesn't inspire much hope.

you read the comment section? ffs he's 8 years old and people are hating on him. it is great for him to enjoy football at his age.

Hopefully he develops physically because clearly technique shouldn't be much of an issue.

I am always surprised that there aren't more kids being brought through who not afraid to dribble and attack defenders like hazard and messi do. I think in England there is a totally different view compared to other countries on the way youth should be developed, which in some ways stunts their potential.
