Whoever wins the bid what is a given is things are going to be completely different from the last 20 years or so. Big money buys are probably finished mid table obscurity could be the new norm it's something we might have to get used to in the short term only hopefully. But for our younger fans this is something completely alien to them and I do wonder how they will react.  It's almost glib to say I've been supporting Chelsea for 50 years blah blah blah it doesn't matter to me how long you've supported the famous CFC or where you come from but we will lose fans it's inevitable football fans especially young ones are extremely fickle.

What absolute tripe.

FYI, fans don't actually change clubs based on who is winning. It's a myth. Fans are created but rarely lost. I'm talking about domestic fans here, I can't speak for the twitter warriors overseas. 

There's no logic at all to think if we are bought, in probably the most expensive club purchase in the history of sport, our owners will allow our value to drop by turning us into a mid table club. 

Our foundations are incredibly solid as a club thanks to the academy which will continue to be prioritised by any owner (as it makes a significant profit). Our net spend in the last 10 years puts us not top 5, but 10th. Behind arsenal, villa, Milan, everton and all the expected big players. Our club has drifted in that aspect as investment has wained.

If anything, the new ownership will cement our status as global big club and the resulting investment will see us become the dominant London club for another decade or more. 

 
Delete this thread absolute rubbish. 

If our new owners have enough money to keep the current squad and we as a club make enough money, which we do then this mid table obscurity won't happen.

Got to admit I wrote this after a night in the pub and having to endure a lot of anti Chelsea rhetoric and well alcohol and the internet are not a good mix !. I just have to say what I meant was well young fans and casual fans not our fanbase at the moment who are the most loyal in the country and brought down the super league in my opinion. 

 
Nah, even with the fickle nature of fans, as long as the new owner wants to win, doesn't make huge negative changes to the club and not from Russia, we'll be alright. 

Roman has created a very solid foothole with a lot of room for error. It would be incompetence of the highest level to feck Chelsea up. 

 
There is a chance things could be much better. So long as they don't change too much at the club, we'll be good.

 
Not sure any owner (whoever it is) will wanna spend close to 3 billion (5x more than any other spent on a club ever) to sink to 'mid table obscurity' lol

 
It's always going to be hard to match where Chelsea have been over the last 10 years as  we've been to the very top of the game winning everything.

This is the case whether Roman had stayed or not. 

As has been stated it would be strange for any buyer to bid in one of the most competitive sports club sales in history, only to just let their investment drop.

A club based in the best part of London, the only European and World Champions in the Capital.  If anything Chelsea are on the up and have yet to reach the full commercial potential.

Just a lot of beer and whiskey !. It was an ill judged post I'll hold my hands up to that but if you look at the time of the post just after 11 o' clock. When you go to the pub and people are revelling in our situation it makes you both angry and a lot of inner turmoil which I spewed on in a post which I shouldn't have done pissed up after leaving the pub. Like everyone I'm worried and hoping for the best outcome although I believe a lot of obstacles and objections will be put in place by the media, the footballing world and parliament.

My thoughts, almost exactly !!

With RA's visa issues, court cases and political problems, he had unfortunately been forced to "take his eye of the ball", and largely leave things up to Bruce, Marina and the Board. And for the most part they have done a decent job. RA's decision to suspend the plans to rebuild the Bridge, was a shock and this decision had the capacity to stop further growth and progress at the Club, especially if Roman chose not to put any more money in. All the potential buyers must realise that Chelsea are 20-30k fans light, at every home game now and that to compete financially with Clubs with higher attendances, they MUST bite the bullet, and revise the plans for the Ground.

We are and will remain at least for much of this year, the Champions of the World, the Champions of Europe, the best club in London and in possession of a Global fan base that is only behind Liverpool and United. Therefore, immense foundations are there to build upon and the successful buyer must surely realise this, hence their willingness to pay the huge asking price.

 
It depend on the new owner but I'll be surprised if the new owner is as loose as roman in term of finance. I don't think we will become mid table team but we probably will have to operate more like pool where we need to operate more efficiently in the market and have more strigent control on our wages.

Yep, doubt there will be a big change the next seasons, as long as we keep Tuchel that is. I can only see us improving by selling players like Lukaku and Werner, while bringing Broja and Gallagher back. With the wages and money saved on Lukaku and Werner we can offer Rudiger a solid wage bump and buy a couple of quality wingback options.

Not sure how we will re-coup the money for those two? Lukaku was £100m and £300k per week - I can only think of Newcastle or PSG who would be interested in him I think even they would balk at those figures. As for Werner perhaps he will go to Bayern - but we know they'll drive a hard bargain.
