To clear up the confusion I think Valerie was referring to the attack by Barton's brother as racially motivated. I remember that case quite well and he was put in jail for life after being involved in the murder of a black kid in Liverpool. The kid was racially harassed from the moment he started waiting at a bus stop near a pub that they were hanging out at. He moved on and was followed before finally being confronted and fatally assaulted with a pretty gruesome selection of weapons.Of course we're friends again!Like I said, one of the explanations may have been that I was ambiguous. And please don't even think I blamed YOU for anything even inching towards genocide or the mere thought thereof (and I'm totally in the dark about my supposed suspicions), since I'm quite aware that you're not (I do know my history), and that you're a nice guy, guilty only of hating the French
. I merely meant to point out to you that especially in Amsterdam, I daily come across the memory of the annihalation (spelling?) of the Jews and my parents' stories about their friends not returning from the camps. It is therefore a very shocking song to me. Chelsea supporters singing it, even in "jest", is a very disturbing picture for me, and I didn't even live during that time. But, once again, perhaps I was ambiguous. Friends again?![]()
Sorry everybody, Steve and I have veered![]()

I think that most people in the UK are more distanced from the horrors of the holocaust than people from mainland Europe, for obvious reasons. Relatively few in comparison had family members or friends who were taken to the camps, though I doubt if anyone who has seen footage of the trains being loaded up for places like Auschwitz, Dachau and the like will ever forget the awful images. I know I won't, and that's why I took such exception to what I thought you were inferring. The holocaust wasn't just limited to the Germans though - thousands, or more likely, millions of Jews were exterminated in Russia too. Then there was the genocide in America, when the Native Americans were almost wiped out - though that was over a longer period of time.
I don't believe for a moment that the Chelsea fans who sing those songs to Tottenham are in favour of genocide - the songs are merely a way of winding the c*nts up - I suppose the British sense of humour takes a lot of understanding![]()
We do seem to have veered off the subject of Joey Barton just a tad.......![]()
ps - I still f*ckin' hate the French!![]()
Of course that doesn't mean that Joey Barton himself is a racist although the term "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" seems to be quite appropriate in this case. The latest incident is just one of many occasions where he has been in trouble. It happened at 5:30AM after he had apparently been out on the town in Liverpool. Considering that he is in the middle of a busy festive fixture list I'd say that being out on the town at that time of night is irresponsible alone. I'd expect his career at Newcastle to be under threat if he is charged. The only hope for him is if he is managed by somebody who can curb that side of his personality. Perhaps Alan Curbishley will take a risk as he seems to have a penchant for football's bad boys.
