Football Buzzwords

Football phrases I despise:

Stonewall penalty - I want to pour a jug of acid down anyone's throat who says that!  What's wrong with "definite", obvious or clear cut?

From this player what you see is what you get -  sod all!

Recycling the ball - What's that supposed to mean?

The term "professionalism"  - another word for cheating basically

Not a football phrase, but the term "bang to rights"  makes me want to give the people who say that "bang to rights"  with my right hand!

You're bang to rights mate

I know. It might have been one of those Colemanballs that got sent into Private Eye that were never actually said.

Three famous examples: "Juantorena opens his legs and shows his class" (supposedly said by David Coleman in the '76 Olympics, but the Youtube footage is online and he doesn't say it).

"The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey". Never actually said during commentary but said in the pub by Brian Johnston, just having a laugh (according to Henry Blofeld).

"The wife of the Cambridge President is kissing the cox of the Cambridge crew". (Sent into the Guardian but never actually said in commentary.
"What about Forfar Five , East Fife Four ?'"

He also said on WBA's tour to China they were going to play their national team '' They look decent but there are some chinks in their armour '' 😂
That tour is infamous for a player who didn't go on the trip to the Great Wall of China explaining ' if you've seen one wall you've seen em all " 😛😛😛

The most overused word in the English language I was on a train recently a woman managed to use every overused word and phrase in one sentence she said '' Oh my God it was literally amazing ''.

I heard someone actually say 'LOL" in conversation.

Apparently David Cameron used to end comments with "LOL" believing it meant " Lots of Love" !

Imagine expressing sympathy for someone's death and signing off with LOL !😁🤣😂

About 2006  I used to be bored at work this was before smartphones and everyone using acronyms I used to play this online quiz against other people. You'd have a quick few words with everyone else and lol kept coming up I had no idea what it meant I assumed it was lots of love as well 🤣. I came home from the pub pissed one night there was of all things a documentary about a kebab shop in Croydon. It was meant to show that people young and old working class and middle class would come in pissed and sort of showing doesn't matter your background everyone is the same at chucking out time.

They interviewed this posh bird and asked '' What do you look for in a man ?'' and she replied oh he must have bantz. I thought what the f**k did she say bunce she's just interested in money ! was a couple of years till I realised what she meant and only cause I heard my niece saying it 🤣

Same here, some people used " Loz" on Twitter, I thought it was short for "Lawrence" FFS !

Best thing I ever did was close that account and get my life back, never again.

Defensive midfield players referred to as "a number 6".  The last time I looked, number 6's were centre halves

Not a buzz word.

However, I’ve  always disliked the song with the words: ‘And we’re by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen!’

Grumpy old git that I am😀

So, basically, at the end of the day, it was a nightmare scenario with issues.

I was literally like, oh my god. I’m so massively into it!

Hate the term "project manager", as if it some bloke working for a graphic design company.

Every manager has a project, it's just some win with theirs quicker than others, and some just dont win at all.

Its become almost unfashionable to have a manager that wants success in the short term, and if they like to play counter attack, it's a crime against humanity.

Yeah "Project Manager" is getting tad old and annoying now.

Basically just a manager that can develop players is what simply needs to be said. 😄

I played for an under 14's team every game the manager would shout '' Put him under'' it's still an expression I use today and have been asked several times what the hell I'm going on about by non footballing friends and bemusement by kids especially at matches.
