If he is ever going to be good enough to be in our first team it will be in his hands.

No one who is good enough to play for us would be benched by sporting Lisbon.

 
Good move for Derry and Chelsea. It's not a coincidence that England's international prospects have drastically improved since English kids started playing in other leagues more frequently. Both the mens and womens teams are reaping the benefits.

 
Imagine saying 25 years ago that an English kid could come on for Sporting Lisbon and be one of the most technically gifted players on the pitch, lol.

TBF England has seriously turned around its youth development since the turn of the century.

that chipped shot goal was insane.

 
The kid is special, stood out head and shoulders in every U21 game last year. Argue he was the best player on the pitch for us when he made his appearances for the first team. Now a fast start at Sporting.

Could make next years LW a strength instead of a weakness finally!

 
That loan move needs to be cancelled over this international break. Think he is 3rd choice LW at Sporting as things stand. He has played less than 30mins, and still don’t understand why they randomly loaned a player without any first team experience to a top Portuguese team.

There have been some dubious loan placements. Satpayev at Burnley another.

I don't get why we keep forcing moves for our young loan players to solid teams in Europe. Derry has no real first team football experience. Why not loan him to the Championship? Same with Mhueka and Emenalo. Celtic are Scotland's biggest team and while I am for loanees to fight for their place, I would prefer them to go on loan to a team that you know requires them. For instance look at when we sent Tammy Abraham out on his first senior season of football to Bristol City. He had a fantastic season and helped his development. Same with Tomori, Mount, Colwill, James. Sending young players to another league in a different country who are an established European team is quite naive.

Satpayev is fine. A good loan. One where we haven't tried to force his potential too much by sending him a top tier league. He was playing for Burnley and receiving rave reviews and got MOTM in his last game then got injured. The reason he is not playing is due to recovering from injury. The loan is a good one. He will play once he returns.

Burnley are rock bottom of the table with an inexperienced coach and massive problems behind the scenes. Read this and tell me it's a good environment for a talented, very young player.

No problem. I was against the loan from the outset. It beats me why they chose Burnley. Their problems are not new.
