Where is the idea that Walker is better than Johnson coming from? Every Spurs fan I know agrees that he's had a dreadful season, whereas Johnson is one of Liverpool's better/more consistent players.

Would take Richards over both on last season's form, but he has barely had a game this season.

England need a proper defensive midfielder, or at least an energetic Ramires/Khedira type to sit with Carrick - who is England's best player at the moment. Then let Wilshere play ahead of them with Rooney, Walcott + one other ahead of him (Milner/Young, Ox in future)

Johnsons defending is appalling, he is found out in every single game. The fact we have to play Milner at right wing to accommodate and help him is ridiculous, what other supposedly top nation plays someone in front of a full back because he cant defend.

Spot on dkw. He is not a natural right back. And yet move Glen Johnson up into midfield and he can be a half-decent attacking player, certainly better than Milner.

I am not as down on English players as many on here. I believe we do have decent youngsters out there for most positions. The central striking role is an exception, as there is a real dearth of English centre-forward talent at the moment.

We also need a more cavalier, galvanzing manager IMO. Roy Hodgson is pretty unimaginative tactically and doesn't appear to have the personality to enthuse and inspire players when things are going against them. He's an English Rafa Benitez really, but with a far more likeable personality and far more honesty.

@Teritus, you have a point about Phil Jones passing but, he has played that defensive holding role for United at times and done it rather well from what I have seen. The boy can tackle that's for sure and would possibly do a job protecting the back four.

I agree that we have decent youngsters out there, the under 21's are proving that by winning 9 games in a row without conceding a goal, it's the current lot we are playing now i have a problem with.

I think England have been far more dominant at youth levels than the first team for years now, it seems they get to 19-20 ahead of everyone else, then don't get any better.

Might be because the game at those levels is more based on physicality and less on technical skills where we still have the upper hand on a lot of our rivals.

Well, I don't think it would work personally but it's certainly something to try out at least. He just always struck me as a natural defender by his play style.
