26/27 Season Expectations

We will definitely be better than last season in pl because no europe. How much better? I think as many here point out, who knows. Maybe top 5 because realistically only 6 team can compete for it.

At the end of poch season or Maresca 1st season, we had a more of less setlled team so it is quite easy to asses. Last season was so chaotic that it is hard to asses and once again we sign 500 new players

As I said in the Wharton thread, I think we are a top passing midfielder (Wharton) and a great goalkeeper away for putting in a challenge for the title - at least putting pressure on Arsenal.

Even without those improvements, we should be looking at top 4 as an absolute minimum (unless we are unlucky with injuries).

Bar Arsenal, I just don't see too many teams that can sustain a challenge. Think City will finish outside the top 4 due to the Maresca-effect plus loss of top players. Hard to predict how Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs will fare. Ditto Villa and Newcastle, so there is no reason we shouldn't be up there.
Enzo and Caicedo are damn good passer, Wharton has to be fabregas level player if you want to improve over those two

how about this silly c**t? step forward Adrian Durham he thinks Arsenal will win the league by 20+ points,

NO WAY, they may not even win it

As much as I'm no fan of Durham, he hates Arsenal and loves to wind up their supporters. He has only done this so that if they fail to win the PL or only win it by a fine margin, he can slag them off, which TBH, I'm all for!

Comfortably top 5.

Bridge to regain fortress vibes would be good.

Palestra 10+ assists.

JP 20+ league goals.

Penders to replace Bob before Xmas.

6 points and two cup wins vs Tottenham.
Palestra in your fantasy football squuad?

Think I feel we're a bit overhyped, I don't like our balance.

Points wise think if we hit 80 points that is a big success considering the lack of CL.

We haven't hit 80 points since the season when Conte won the league. In fact we haven't even come close since then ... best of 74 in 21/22. Under BlueCo we've never even reached 70.

I'd love to think it was possible, but I just can't see that level of consistency happening with this current squad.

Hope I am wrong, but I think we might have even gone backwards in quality terms this window ...

I’m going to go for something slightly different.

We’ll do a double over one of Arsenal or City.

Welbeck will become a cult hero, popping up with late crucial goals several times.

Palestra will be respected as one of the best wing backs in the world

Estevao will have a breakthrough season and get 20+ G/A

Enzo Fernandez will be benched by Reggie Watson, who will become one of the first names for the midfielder role

Jordan Henderson will play a grand total of 130 minutes in all competitions

Morgan Rogers will have a good impact but not as big as some might have hoped for

Top 2. Win a cup.

Wharton is a better passer under pressure than either of these two.

Enzo is only a good passer if he has 20 seconds to trap the ball and look up.

We hit 69 points under Maresca's first season, and he had his hand in sabotaging that 2nd half of the season. We also had the annoyance of the Conference League to deal with.

Look at the context this year.

  • Liverpool and City have weakened.
  • United haven't improved their defence and now have Europe to deal with (sticking with Carrick too)
  • Newcastle and Villa have been picked apart.
  • Bournemouth, Sunderland, Palace, and Brighton are in Europe this season.

I stand by that above 70 points should be the absolute bare minimum, but we realistically should be pushing upwards to 80.

My expectations for this season are never a dull moment with long periods of frustration interrupted by short days of absolute joy. Or in other words another season of LDN Chelsea FC.

My hope is Xabi can at least bring us top 4 come next May but it's only a hope not an expectation.

I expect energy, effort, impetus and purpose. If we play like that with the players we have we will win a lot of matches and be entertained along the way COYB.

Relegated.

Oops. Sorry. Thought this was the Coventry forum.

I think top 4 is our overall realistic goal. Anything else would be a bonus.

Bump.

Well we're 7 games in now and good to see us top 4.

If we can keep the key players fit, I really see no reason why we should drop below that. Think going forward we are as good, if not better than anyone. And now we seem to be getting a settled defence plus have Caicedo and Henderson in the middle, hopefully that clean sheet against Everton will be the first of many.

I know it's easy to get carried away after a couple of decent results, just as it's easy to get despondent after a bad defeat, but I am getting Vibes of Conte's first season where everything started gelling and clicking into place.

Next two PL games are Spurs and then man Utd at home. Two big games where we really need to be looking to get all 6 points. If we can then go to Sunderland and add another 3 points, we'll be nicely placed going into next International break. I know it's down to a lot of if's, but's and maybe's but I'm starting to get confident for a good season.

Just notice Brighton in 3rd have a Plus 18 goal difference after 7 games. Fair play, but surely they can't keep that up?

Currently on track for 71 points. That should be enough for the Top 4 based on recent seasons, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Need some big wins.

Pushing for the title imo.

City can do what they want but they won't be allowed to win the league.
Arsenal look bang average.
Brighton we've already beat.

Really want us to beat United comfortably. Every year, I swear they are terrible and yet they beat us. Fed up of them.

9 points from next 3 games would set out the intention for rest of season. Big ask but possible. International break would come at a bad time if that did happen!
