Alex to QPR

Strange that no-one else wants him. Maybe his wages are putting people off.

 
Good defender on a bargain basement price....just hope it doesn't come back and bite us when we play them in the cup..I would be gutted then....perhaps the negotiations could take long enough so that he signs after the game?

 
QPR the only club interested will always be a questionmark.. why are other clubs not going for him?

 
I've never rated him as highly as others on here seem to, but I would have thought someone better than QPR would be interested, especially at a cut price.

He has been injured quite a lot lately so I presume most other clubs just arent willing to take the risk. I heard a few clubs wanted him on loan with a view to buy but the club have said they want a fee for him now.

 
If this is true it shows you the morons who are running transfer policy at this club.

Alex is still the second best out and out defender we have here. He is little injury prone but a great player. Why we would sell him to a rival for f**k all, is beyond me.

This is a bad deal for all concerned I'd prefer we kept him for 6 months and sold him to someone decent rather than do this. Alex is capable of still being a top class defender at a top class club.

 
Don't know about that. Alex has always had weaknesses. He's pretty slow and can be clumsy on the ball. He's reasonably solid and could certainly do a job in a top 4-6 club. But if we had Terry Luiz Cahill and Alex here, he'd be 4th choice for me.

Rubbish. No further examples are needed than Luiz's clusterf**k of a first half against Man United last season. When he was hooked at halftime Alex came on and gave a champion performance including a block on the line to stop it from being a debacle.

It was for good reason that he was regularly picked ahead of Lord Percy during his final two seasons here.

Alex is a great player and if I had my way he wouldn't be leaving at all, let alone being sold to a pissant club for a pittance

 
So when a player hands in a transfer request, you'd force them to stay against their will?

 
Disagree Spiller. Alex wasn't good enough IMO, and this is being borne out by his lack of suitors. He is good enough for QPR of course, but Chelsea is above his level, IMO.

He is uncomfortable on the ball, very sloppy with his passing, he is totally immobile and he is slow. He also has poor concentration. In short, he is not a defender you can rely on, he is always prone to make a ricket and be exposed. Luiz is prone to the odd ricket himself of course, but he has all the attributes to make a world class defender, unlike Alex.

What Alex has going for him are power, strength, aerial ability. His tackling often gets him out of scrapes, scrapes that he has brought upon himself. He can also shoot of course. He is the perfect mid-table package.

He has never struck me as being good enough for Chelsea. I have said from the outset he is our 4th choice central defender. That's fine if he wants to stay but he doesn't. We've replaced him with a superior player, good on the ball, good in the air, fast and mobile. He may not be the world's best but he is able. He is also English and a few years younger. Alex has also had his trouble with injuries. Cahill wants to be here Alex doesn't. That's the bottom line. Unlike Alex, Cahill will get significant game-time, meaning you will be seeing less of Bossy, as there will be less need to play Ivanovic at centre-half.

If we get £4m for Alex, that means we've upgraded for a relatively small fee, even taking wages into account, as I assume Alex is on less than 80k a week.

What I like about AVB is that he trusts his judgement, just as he did with Benayoun, and he doesn't mind selling to rivals. That shows confidence in himself, ala Mourinho.

AVB has got almost every judgement call right. Mikel, Malouda, Kalou are now strictly reserves. Bosingwa too. Alex and Anelka were rightly cast aside. He has brought in Romeu and Mata and they have been great. He has also promoted Sturridge. I think it's time to start showing him some faith. If we're selling to QPR we know what we're doing. AVB has had a look and deemed him surplus to requirements. Thats good enough for me. One thing AVB can do is judge a player.

Rumour has it, one of his free-kicks killed seven players, as it ricocheted from player to player.

Agreed. I think he would be perfect for the Bundesliga, and one of those clubs could easily afford the kind of fee.

Why the hell does Alex want to go to QPR anyway?

 
Seems Chelsea are denying agreeing a fee, and are saying he is still on the market. Also rumours Alex wants to leave England and wouldn`t join QPR anyway. Good lad.
