Alves Bid Upped

I don't know why as I have barely ever seen this guy but I've got really good feeling about Alves. I hope we will snatch him soon even if it means Robben is goingo to Spain. If we had him Johnson could be used as a backup winger/RB and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Alves really good at free kicks? We really need someone who is.

 
Allegedly, according to TVE (Public TV in Spain) Sevilla and Madrid have agreed to transfer Alves to Madrid for about 40 M Euro.

My mate was saying that Liverfool were quoted ?12m last year when they expressed an interest in Alves, how come his value has shot up, is it purely because of who we are? If so, talk about being held to ransom, here's the latest bit of info, I don't now how reliable the source is though.

Alves had an incredible year last year...

Okay, sorry to bring up an old topic, but who do we think was responsible for this?

I find it embarrasing that we had a chance to sign this guy, the absolute best full back in the game right now by an absolute mile, and we said we didn't want to because £25m (or however much it was at the time) was too much for a right back? What the hell?

We've spent well over that on Bosingwa and Ferreira, and neither of them even come close. They're not even in the same league as Alves defensively, and they sure as hell don't come close to him in offense either. It's ridiculous.

So, does the blame lie with Kenyon? Roman? Jose? Sigh.

All three are to blame, Roman and Jose weren't talking at the time, Jose wanted to run the side his way, Roman wanted to buy who he wanted, Kenyon was stuck in the middle. If a happy medium could have been reached then we might not be Robbenless, trophyless and two managers further down the line.

 
I dont think that Alves wouldve been nearly as successful here as he has been at Barca. He is attacking minded all the way, and that team could make Smertin look like the next Zidane right now

 
he's a terrific player, was in barca this weekend and he really is very very good.

but he has numerous advantages over out fullbacks- messi playing ahead of him, the ridiculously wide nou camp pitch, generally playing in a side that is currently best in europe. he spent 80% of the game in the opposition's half.

As I said on a thread a week or so ago , just imagne how differnet it couldve been for Scolari if we had got Alves AND Robinho.

Anyone see Barca-Espanyol today? I think Dani Alves has to be one of the least likeable footballers on earth. His team was fully of cheap, cynical, petulant fouls against their city-rivals after they (deservedly) went two down, and Mr. Alves was leading the charge. He is a vengeful, angry looking little man.

totally agree, he remonds me of bellamy with his lack of neck. hes a horrible little sod as i posted earlier in this thread. superb player but utter f**knut.

 
Lovely armlock he applied near the end too. Seems very easy to wind him up and therefore get him sent off. Sad to see Barca players hounding the ref the way they did just to try and get the numbers evened up. They're better than that.

It is incredible how di*kless the refs are in La Liga. Although we have M*ke R*illy they are far worse of there than in England. Whenever Barca plays home they have the ref in their pocket. The fans just yell 'Puta' and the ref makes the call to them. The players always crowd the zebras like some hungry hyenas and magically the call is always to their favour. It is just incredible.

I dont really know if they are better than that. My mind goes back to a few years ago, when we had to play them the first time. They were the samba boys and Ronaldinho was supposedly the world's best. But when the final whistle went and it was 5-4 to the blues, old goofy was being restrained by security while his teammate went spitting on our staff.

I like guys like Xavi (although he was a big asshole in this match, too) and a couple of others, but they remind me so much of Arsenal. Its all youthful smiles and fun when the goals are rolling in. Once things start to go wrong and its clear a result isnt gonna come they become animalistic thugs who cant believe you would dare stand up to them.

Missed the Alves armlock, but I did see him get nudged off the ball with a shoulder by an espanyol player, and then square up with his (as dkw says) stocky noneck frame, and laughed as the Espanyol fella just pushed him in the face without even looking. I hope if we ever play them, we just send Mikel at him in the opening minute for a rash challenge. He will probably try and murder someone.

my feelings exactly. there happy as larry when strolling past opposition, but once things go wrong they kcik off big time like petulant litle kids.

So true, and I think in the case of them and Le Arse its now ingrained into the club culture. That "How dare teams defend against us! How dare everyone not submit to our magnificent football" mentality. They have both gone with these flashy, finesse players (with a select few exceptions) for many years now, and in Barca's case even when the manager is changed, the players have the same attitude.

its funny to think 15 years ago Arsenal had a team of defensive grinders who at least had in character what they lacked in skill. And now its a bunch of young, prima dona hotshots like Bentdner and Adebayor who think they are god's gift to football even when they're absolute garbage. I wonder what the people like Adams, Winterburn and Dixon really think of weepy Gallas and Arshavin with his hairdresser in tow.

 
I was reading the transfer rumors this morning and I saw that we & man city might be going in for Dani Alves in the summer.

Why are we being associated with another right back? Don't get me wrong I think Alves is a brilliant player, but I think Bosingwa has had a brilliant first season with Chelsea and I think he can get even better.

We haven't had much luck with right backs, Belletti probably being the best right back we have signed, but I personally think he plays his best game in midfield & Ferreira is not what he was when he first arrived.

Why can't we start bringing in academy players to deputize & even learn from Bosingwa.
