Anti-Chelsea Media

Disagree completely. If that's the best we can do that says it all. Hazard has been denied loads of stonewalls but the ones he's been given have been nailed-on. Luiz a yellow for me. There's certainly not one concrete bad decision in our favour, with untold against us. Perhaps it's because our image hit an all-time low. I suspect so.
To be honest Davey I haven't watched as many games as I would have liked this year for personal reasons so can't provide you with a full list , I do agree we have been on the receiving end of some shocking Ref decisions in recent years (Barca at home is the best candidate ) but I really don't think we get any worse treatment than other teams .... Hence no conspiracy ( Then again Terry's blatant foul on Castilla in the 4-2 did go our way )

If you are slagged off on the tv and in the papers all week in the build up to a game, and the opposition manager has been heaping pressure on the referee in the build up to the game and there is an anti Chelsea sentiment out there from neutrals because there stupid enough to believe what they read. When the big game comes up its going to be so easy for the ref to give nothing our way.

As somebody already said its in his mindset, his subconscious whatever you want to call it. At the moment it seems to be the referees default setting.....give us nothing we dont 100% deserve and then only if you have to.

I'm not saying the ref's have a sit down and throw around ideas on how to screw us, i'm not questioning there integrity.  But they know if they give us an iffy decision it will be jumped on by everyone after the game but if they give one against us not even our own manager is going to say anything at the minute so basis that which way are those 'close calls' going to go. well they aint going to go our way and they aint all season and I think thats all us paranoid people are trying to say. And i think we have a fair point.

Clattenburg is the ref for Swansea. You couldn't make this stuff up.

What i cant stand is the double standards in the media, there's many different versions especially recently, ie proven Giggs shagged his sister inlaw for 8 yrs & then spent time with his brother & his brother's children at family gafferings ect knowing full well that he was doing one of the worst things any family member could do especially to a sibling.

What happens? he goes on to captain the G.B team in the Olympics, all the while becoming once again a media darling.

We all know what happened to J.T(who by the way was in the wrong IF HE did actually cheat on his mrs) but it was still enough to lose the captains armband, why?

Tony Adams went to jail for drink driving & then still wore the England captains armband after he got out.

There's just a few examples of double standards the list is endless.

Regards refs/media ect i dont think we have helped ourselves at times, our p.r is a shambles, add grown men-players acting like dicks at times & it just feeds the media what they want, then there's the way the club is run the way it sacks managers ect

We have had issues with refs there's no doubt but we've also got away with things over the years, even this season, off side goal given v Reading, Marin shouldve got a red v Fulham at home, Torres v Utd at home, are a few examples.

I'd hate us as fans to go down the scouse route of "never our fault" because at times we havent helped matters.

Leaving aside whether or not refs are affected by the media, I take the view that as a fan, its better to ignore the sniping, don't buy a paper or listen to negativity, blah blah blah...However thats not always possible, and being only human, I take a slightly, sing when your winning attitude to the press, enjoying reading the papers when we do well or someone we hate is getting a slagging.

But some of the stuff thats gone on with us is beyond fair comment and public interest, John Terry's Dad being set up was such a liberty that even the Judge at his trial was apologetic, and described it as one of the worst cases of entrapment he's ever seen.

I've mentioned this before but I'm going to bring it up again, the Peter Cech incident at Reading. Leaving aside the sh*t storm that would have happened if say, two of Man utds goalies had been Hospitalised with serious head injuries in the same game. The following week Reading played Arsenal and Jens Lehman growled at Stephen Hunt everytime he came near him, the Sky commentator (it might have been Martin Tyler) expressed concern that this shouldn't affect Stephen Hunt's career and how hoped this would not follow him around and colour peoples judgement. (not to worry he was known as a two bob journeyman before the Cech incident, and that didn't change after it) I'm not suggesting that Hunt did it deliberately but the impression I got watching that game, was its been a week, we should all move on and try and help Hunt get past this.

But what really infuriated me about that was the treatment meted out to Mourinho, re the media, he was interviewed straight after the game, when he was clearly distressed and emotional, he expressed concern about the length of time it took for Cech to get to Hospital. I watched the interview live and my take on it was that he was generalising about getting injured players to Hospital, and he went on to say that he hoped all grounds including Stamford Bridge would review what happens when a player is clearly seriously injured. (The decision to get Cech to Hospital was down to the Chelsea medical staff that day and Mourinho would obviously have known this) However all I heard for ages afterwards, Patrick Barclay in particular brought this up a lot, was that multi millionaire (whats that got to do with it) Mourinho criticises hard pressed NHS Ambulance staff.

It was added to the list of Chelsea "crimes" such as terrifying Anders Frisk so much he retired, when it was common knowledge that he was going to retire after that season anyway to open a restaurant.

You can say that all clubs get this treatment but I dispute that, the only other club thats had anything like the press intrustion and negativity that we had, would be Man City.

Jack Wilshere's rap sheet is pretty bad, but he doesn't get the Ashley Cole, JT treatment nothing like it,and as someone else has pointed out, Sir Ryan of Giggs private peccadillos are rarely thrown up in his face by the press.

There are certain things we do bring on ourselves, the Ashley Cole tapping up being a classic example, thats fair journalism, footy related and we were bang to rights.

The Leveson inquiry didn't come about for nothing, many journalists are decent people doing a good job, but a fair few of them are total scum, I guess they have to be to do that job when working for certain papers. Its not paranoid to get p*ssed off by lies and inaccuracies and spite and it bothers me that things that are patently untrue go unchallanged and pass into negative Chelsea folklore.

Good post. Jose getting on to the ambulance service made a huge difference just look at the Bolton player who collapsed at whl by Jose making he's point I'm sure things changed from that moment on.

Excellent post very valid points . Didn't Reading accept that ambulance access was inadequate and make changes to the ground etc. ???

I think so TBB, and yes BG, I also believe that Fabrice Muamba's prompt treatment came about due to changes made after Mourinho's comments at Reading...So all hail Jose, saviour of Fabrice..!

rYes Shelly that's the one I was on about. Not bad for the enemy of football.

Great post Shelly, exactly how i feel. Its as if the lies get told so often and are repeated enough eventually they become true somehow. Its ridiculous.

And regarding JT'S Dad, how much stick would he be getting if he had the accusations made against him that Neville Neville has had. Now dont get me wrong the man might be innocent and the allegations totally unfounded but if it was JT's dad who was accused the truth wouldn't matter anyway.

Reminds me of John motson comment few weeks ago.....

We score and camera zooms in on the IC...who just sits there while everyone around jumps about - motson says 'whilst the coach maintains his dignity' ....

Not..why isn't he celebrating or similar critical comment, oh no it's a subtle criticism of us fans and our behaviour

Clever

John Motson is about as relevant as a fondue set.

Crikey. Just seen this post. Spot on Shelly. As you say, it's easily dismissed as paranoia, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

I want to put something to Liam and bjd and others who peddle the paranoia line ..

When JT got done by the FA, an editorial appeared in the Observer no less, demanding he be sacked by his club. They ignored the fact he had been acquitted in court (unlike Luis Suarez) and ignored the fact he had been given a 4 match ban whereas Suarez got 8. They demanded Terry be sacked by Chelsea. They did not demand Suarez be sacked by Liverpool. Explain that.

They demanded Samsung withdraw their sponsorship in protest.

While you're at it, explain why they demanded Ashley Cole be sacked too. Ashley Cole wasn't even charged with anything nor banned for anything.

No vendetta no agenda it's all paranoia .. ? Sorry I ain't buying that. We get a harder time from the press than any other club me thinks. It's not even up for grabs.

I do think your right fella there is vendetta against certain players . Having seen first hand on several occasions in various clubs around London what JT and Mr. Cole and entourage are like over the years especially a few years ago ( and i am not saying every club doesn't have players exactly the same at most clubs ) in all honesty not the first people you would have on your guest list to a party (taking away the fact they are footballers but based on their persona). Unlike say Ally McCoist or Mark Bright / Ray Wilkins who are all genuinely nice blokes .

The most apt phrase is you reap what you sow .

^ Yeah I've heard that too. However, as you say, lots of footballers are like that, I've heard many things about others too. That does not explain the vendetta by any means. The Observer editorial has nothing to do with their off-field personas. I mean, Suarez hardly covers himself in glory. Also, let's not forget the many stories about JT that portray him in a different light. He has an awful lot of time for people, when he's sober ;)

I'll tell you a little story re. Ashley Cole. A few years ago, under Grant I think we were playing at home. I was near the front of the MH. Cole stretched for the ball and missed it, hitting the hoardings. A guy in the front row, with his little kid, asked him if he could have his shirt at the end of the game. Cole said nothing ran back on the pitch and play resumed. I didn't even think he had heard it. At the end of the game, about an hour later, the players shook hands Cole pulled off his shirt and jogged towards the MH and handed his shirt to the little kid, cool as you like.

That showed a touch of class in my book.

That is a classy story about Cole like that . In and around a football ground / football people the majority are spot on and JT is beyond doubt a great bloke around the club and with the fans he is first class a real cut above the rest . Trouble is they come unstuck when they mix with us lot outside in a non football environment .
