okay, out of the way, I don't like the guy. however, I feel I have been fair whenever I have judged his peformances.

now- I feel he's been playing like a liability this season- dribbling into players and losing the ball, constantly left flat footed, sucked in towards the middle too often... the suspect positioning is seriously evident. I was not surprised to see a thread on sheva after the game (even if it's his first game for us this season having missed the first 5- he was under pressure from people before he kicked a ball)...

what I was a little surprised about is this seemingly lax approach to a. cole- after the ritualistic taking apart of carvalho in his first two seasons (two seasons with many notable excellent peformances, and in general two very good seasons), I am surprised ashley has been given so much leeway- he hasn't had to adapt to a new league, a new country- he hasn't even moved cities! frankly, I don't understand what it is he does- he's not a "world class" defender, not even a good one in my book. but people talk about him going forward- he's fast, and quick, and he gets forward well- but what does he do? his crossing is non-existant... any fullback can get forward...

there have been numerous errors- some serious ones- if glen johnson made them he would have been crucified- because we have yet to concede from a direct error of his does not mean the error did not happen.

Im with you on this one G4. I honestly thought we'd start seeing the best of Ashley Cole this season, but it just hasn't seemed to happen.

I don't like Ashley Cole and never have. I've also never rated Ashley Cole, even when he was at Arse and getting all the plaudits as 'best left back in the world'

Wayne Bridge is a far better player, and the sooner he's fit again, the better for Chelsea (if Mourinho picks him, that is).

We should've sold Cole in the summer (or better still, never bought him in the first place). I reckon we should offload the c*nt in January and sign a promising young left back as understudy for Bridge - or better still, promote a youngster from within the club.

Yeah, like that's ever gonna happen with Mourinho in charge!

Agree with everthing G4 said.

As long as Ashley is at the club then ill support him but i wont be disapointed if he leaves.

Even when Bridge is fit Ash will still play because he's one of Jose's favourites IMO

Last year he carried an injury through the entire season, as he didn't want to have an op and miss a large part.

This is a clever Sheva jukstaposition isn't it?

an example- personally, I don't think cash is a great defender. he's still a better footballer than jimmy, but he really relies on two things- his physique- he's quick, and pretty strong. his acceleration lets him make two or three challenges on a quick winger where most fullbacks only have on chance to get the tackle right.

I think- that coming through the arsenal youth system was the best thing that could have ever happened to him- he learned to be patient on the ball, to be able to play one-two's at pace... he's not uncomfortable on the ball. he had pires and henry in front of him, all he had to do to look like a good attacking player was constantly get forward and pass inside.

so having some measure of composure, and great physical quality has managed to get him where he is. my point there was that he isn't really a rounded player like zambrotta is, for example.

kev, if he was carrying an injury last season, why has he managed to start this season worse?

what must surely be telling is that despite bridge's own injuries, and despite the fact he is not a world class player, he's consistantly shown the guy up.

Personally i think Wayne Bridge does better on the left than Ashley Cole at times. He doesn'y driible up to people and lose the ball or give it away. Bridge needs more playing time.

I have been saying the same as you Bluebeard the whole time, even before he joined chelsea...a cole or should that be ass hole benefits from the same bizarre hype as stevie me...no matter how badly he plays or mistakes he makes, he is still the 'best left back in the world'...and yet why is it that I see people dribbling past him time and time again and him losing players on the back post as a cross comes in...if we had to buy a left back from arsenal, we should have got clichy...he does look good
