Next...... (can you tell I'm bored at work)
Sorry...I was editing my post as I realised that you might think you got it right with the Oasis song. See my edited post above. So...before a new one, have another go at the question. It's from the 90's, that much I can tell you.

aaaaarrghhhhhh I know it - well I know the band but not the song. It was The Orb wasn't it. I remember hearing/reading about it being ridiculously long and was almost not allowed to be in the charts as there is a maximum length rule or something like that.

No idea about the song title as I don't like the band

You are good! The correct answer is 'Blue Room' by Orb. The duration is 39 minutes and 58 seconds, which is two seconds less than the maximum duration set for a single under chart rules. There was a second CD available which featured shorter mixes of the song, though.

Ok...if you're still bored(like me) some more trivia. Name me the only two groups to have had eight consecutive #1 album releases in the UK.

One is definitely Zeppelin.

I suppose the Beatles is the obvious guess for the second but that isn't something I know for sure, just guessing.

and as an aside do you not think it odd that throughout all these discussions about records etc there is no sign of the Stones -

Zeppelin is the other one with albums from "Led Zeppelin 2" in 1969 to "In Through The Out Door" in 1979. Beatles is not right, though.

Yes, I would've thought the Stones would've popped up somewhere along the line.

Just read a stat that Rolling Stones is the group with the most top 40 albums(38). The artist with the most top 40 albums should be an easy one to guess.

Hmm - can't reallt think who else would have got 8 consecutive No 1 albums.

Madonna perhaps? Elvis?

No, it's not Elvis or Madonna. I'll give a clue: the release dates of the Zeppelin eight consecutive #1 albums and this other group's consecutive #1 albums overlap eachother. So it's a band that started their run of #1 albums either before 1969 or before 1979.

I was going to try Diana ROss but the fact that it was a band has changed my mind.

Off to a meeting now for about 20 minutes - will need to give it some thought.

Ok, I'll pop in later to see if you've got the right answer.

I'm sure its ABBA, one of those useless bits of information you pick up,if not

It sure is ABBA. The only band with a palindrome name that has had a palindrome hit single name(SOS). More useless trivia...

Now that I see the answer it seems obvious but I must confess I would have ended up going round the houses before getting Abba

Right, let's get silly with the stats. What is the song and the artist/band that holds the record for the longest note held in a UK top 40 hit. The singer has to keep the same note going without interruptions without any aid from technology. It's a fairly recent release.

I'm just not entertaining that one!!!!

Anyone who gets that right but claims not to have looked it up is either fibbing or is Jimmy Somerville!

There is trivia then there is farce!! This clearly sits in the latter category!

I said it was silly...just trying if someone knows some useless trivia. It's a Scandinavian act, that much I can tell you.

For something a bit easier:

Name a record that was knocked off the #1 spot by a record whose title can be found in the lyric of the first song?

It's from the 70's.

recent and Scandinavian...hmm Bjork or Aha spring to mind

I know the asnwer to the lyric question but purely because it came up in a pub quiz when I lived in Nottingham - and I didn't get it right then, but remember it from being given the answer afterwards. To be honest when I heard the question at the pub quiz I didn't even understand what they were asking for!

It is Bohemian Rhapsody being knocked off by Mamma Mia

The answer to the longest note question is AHA with "Summer Moved On" (no. 33, June 2000), in which the singer holds a vocal note for 20.2 seconds. Yes, silly...

What is the UK top 40 hit with the most expletives in the song lyrics? It's a band and it's a fairly recent one.

Was it that naff song about the bloke gobbing off about his ex - again I can't remember the name - there was a follow up song from a woman in response to it.
