Chelsea v Arsenal (PL) Sat 21st Oct 2023 17:30 GMT

Calling it now, this is Cole Palmer's coming of age game, and will proceed to take the baton from Drogs and Hazard in this fixture going forward.
Shame it didn't come with the win but I think I may have got this one right.

Club had 2 goalies prone to silly mistakes that cost points , the club rightfully moved them on.
and signed Sanchez 😅😂🤣

shame because it would of been a statement win, instead it’s business as usual / par for the course for the last few seasons.

Should have scored the 1 on 1 with Raya, but it was otherwise an excellent display.

Also has to be said, if not said already, Sakas cross was top, top quality.

Jorginho masterclass incoming.
Was never gonna happen!

Looking back on the game, I am able to get over the disappointment of losing a 2-0 lead by marvelling at what a good midfield we have now and that I no longer have to suffer watching J5 plod his way through a game and slow things down to snails pace. A couple of times when Gallagher drifted by J5 as if he wasn't there was just sheer joy!

This is unfair on Kai who has continued to be at least equally useless. Give him some credit too.

I was going to but he wasn't really on the pitch long enough to diss him!

But again, there was a lot of satisfaction watching that game and seeing Cole Palmer strutting his stuff and putting in a MOTM performance and reminding oneself we signed him for £20m LESS than we were able to extract from the Gooners for the hapless Havertz. Happy Days!

To be fair to Kai he was used tactically well by Arteta to change to long ball football which helped them bypass our midfield and take control of the last 10 minutes or so.

Extended highlights now up:

The more i watch that Sanchez pass the more i have to question Enzo.

The ball bobbles about 2 foot to the side of him slowly and he doesn't even attempt to get there. Love Enzo to bits he shoulders as much blame as Sanchez for me on that one.

Most likely worn out from the internationals.

Enzo and Caicedo will both suffer from this fatigue every international break. Even more so that Argentina and Ecuador heavily rely on them.

Poch needs to learn to trust Lesly until Lavia becomes available. Was evident Enzo needing subbing out after Arsenal's first goal.

I think he's shown he does trust him. But that doesnt mean he's ready for a test like Arsenal just yet.

I do agree he probably should've been subbed on, but hindsight is 20:20. When Reece was brought on I thought it was a good decision as his return would lift the players and the crowd, now we're a few days on it's easy to say he should've stayed on the bench in favour of Ugochukwu though.

I didn't post in here immediately after the game but read through later and was surprised how negative a lot of verdicts were. Sure, we should have seen the game out, that's a given. But that's the best we've played against Arsenal in years. Their midfield was made to look so ordinary, fullbacks were exposed, and for most of the game Saka was nullified. The gameplan worked fantastically for almost the entire game.

Should've been 3 points, but at this point in time I'd take 1 point and that level of performance over a smash and grab win.

Beat Brentford and end this bent Spurs fairy tale run then all is forgiven.

Loss of concentration maybe. That can happen. Let's forget the Arsenal game, it is past now.

You cannot believe majority of people were negative after the game. In recent years, we had Jorginho, Havertz, Mount etc. playing against Arsenal, so we didn't do well, but now we have better players, so we dominated Arsenal. This is what we should be talking about after this game.

Sanchez' pass for the mistake was probably over-hit, so we cannot blame Enzo for not getting it. The team will only get better.

So Havertz is now the tactical masterclass of Arteta. Gusto was annoying to let that goal go in. He saw the ball, just do everything you can do to disturb Trossard from scoring that goal.

I don't like Gusto, you are a defender, you are not supposed to be kind, clear the ball, that's your job. Now I think Poch said James is not ready to start. After one week, why is James not ready to start?

Brentford gets another cross, and Gusto will allow them to score. A defender cannot be like him. I prefer we use James than use him.

While it was gutting to throw away what looked like a comfortable lead against a London rival, I still take a lot of positives from the game. We continue to improve and are gradually getting some players back from injury. Cole Palmer again looked like a gem. Our new second choice fullbacks for the most part nullified Arsenal's highly rated wingers (bar the one costly moment Gusto lost his concentration), and overall I think our midfield came out on top over their much vaunted midfield.
Arsenal have two good players, Martinelli and Saka. Yes, but if we are going to be a top team, we must defeat top teams. They even have Declan Rice, Odegaard etc. but we still have to play better than them.

Gusto should not make that kind of mistake again, also Sanchez.
