IMO is due to concentration, poor defensive play by individuals, and maybe AVB is working on his own defensive system. Playing Bosingwa is a trade off between attack and defence, so far I don't think we got the money back yet, but it's early days. I'm happy to have Mata not doing much defensive work, but that means Mereilles or Lampard need to take more of the work load, so far I don't think it worked that well.
Set pieces are about the only thing we are any good at tbh, so you better get practicing

we always seem to raise our game against the bigger teams so it should be interesting, and now Rodwells ridiculous red card has been withdrawn, he could be key, i can see him being stuck to Rameries, which will be a good contest tbh, i dont want Cahill upfront, id like to see Vellios, he will cause Terry problems, but Moyes will never start him, and Drenthe would be a good starter as i know some of you guys have suggested a weakness at right back

i look forward to it
Make sure you tell your boys not to be rude to a couple of players they might recognise from your manor

The play for us now - and not our feeder club

PS One of them (the alice band one) has been naughty and is still on detention

Don't expect it for a minute, but I would like to see:

...........................Cech

Ivan........Luiz..........Terry......Cole

Ramires......McEachran.........Mereiles

.Sturridge..............................Mata

......................Anelka

Big Guns of Drogba & Lampard (and Lukaku) on the bench in case we get into second half needing a goal or two.

No-one's ever going to accuse Anelka of moving the ball quickly. And we know that AVB wants crisp ball movement.

Paradoxically, however, I think Anelka is playing really good football in AVB's system. He still holds the ball up. But he consistently finds good positions and when the ball finally does leave his feet, it typically goes somewhere useful.

The man's a physical marvel, never seems injured. I hope he changes his mind and signs a new contract with Chelsea. I understand that he probably wants one last big payday before he retires and that Chelsea are likely offering a reduced contract, but this would be his last chance for glory.

Good choice that man!

i was wondering if the inclusion of Bosingwa and Luiz in the back 4 at the same time would be too risky. They certainly both offer something in attack, more so than in defense, but that is also worrying if we continue to adopt this high back line.

I think if we play Luiz, we have to play Ivan at RB, and if we play Bosingwa at RB we have to play Ivan at CB. Either way it's a win win for Ivan, but I'd rather we go with Luiz in the middle and Ivan out right.

It will be interesting, as always, to see who we go with in the middle. I'd like to see us try the 4-2-3-1 formation with Ramires and Mereiles as the holding two pivot mids with Mata in behind them. Then have either side of Mata Sturridge on the right and Malouda on the left, they can swap wings effectively too (a la Robben and Duff) and then either Nico or Drogba (preferably Drogba) on his todd upfront.

I think that formation relieves Mata of his defensive duties and free's up his creativity.

At least with Malouda on the right, and Torres out suspended, we might see Malouda pas....am I right,?

Conspiracy...again

I would still like to see how luiz and Ivan go as central partnership. Probably not going to happen in a league match just now.

AVB on team news for Everton. Not much except no new injuries, but David Luiz arriving only yesterday after 2 games for Brazil may get rested.

Have a feeling Drogba gets the start in this one, but probably will see more of the same with the lineup.

Nervous about this one - Everton have been a sh*tty team for us over the past few years.

I think that I'd be more comfortable with Drogba up front - whilst Anelka has been playing well - I prefer seeing Didier being the lone 'striker'.

No real preference to the right back situation - it will just depend on how the game pan out - Boss's attacking mantra might come in handy if Everton are sitting back from the get go.

So glad the bloody internationals are done with. Come on the Chels.

I wish it weren't a late game. I'm staying at my girfriend's parent's house whilst they are abroad and I will have to drive home to watch it at 2:30am.

Read somewhere that Everton has come away with atleast one point from the Bridge in the past five years. Not good if it's true. They tend to roll over against ManU, why can't they do the same against us?

I hope we play well and win today!

It is true, everton are unbeaten in the last 6 in the league against us. Also 5 draws in a row at the bridge so dont hold your breath tonight lads.

Well, it's a new season and a new game. We can't be like Liverpool and just look to the past

Definitely gonna win - I'm wearing my lucky thong to the Bridge today

Can't do it. I'm just way too tired. I'll have to watch it tomorrow on Chelsea TV.
