Chelsea v Everton (PL) Sat 18th Mar 2023 17:30 GMT

Yet some still cannot see it. Everyone makes mistakes. Sadly Potter has no credit in the bank except for the fanboys who just see an English coach or something. Honestly, I cannot even guess what it is if it's not the fact he is english.
True, we don't care if our club is useless as long as the manager is English.  Impeccable logic

End of the day we lost 2 points today that we should have banked in spite of much criticized substitutions.

We still have a back 3 on that seconded goal, Chalobah needs to be more switched on, Koulibaly stronger bit even after those errors it is a huge, huge mistake by Kepa. It is not a long shot, it is weak and right at him. He has to save it, there is no excuse for him letting that in.

No, but a quality coach has an overall, structure so that any individual error gets covered by others around. It comes from structure and familiarity and trust of the players in each other.

Here of course we have somebody constantly putting us into a nose dive with his dreadful game management
Sounds good.

Unfortunately you'll see top teams with top coaches giving away goals due to individual errors every week.

The goalkeeping error is all down to Potter obviously

I don't think either goal was necessarily down to individual errors though. The corner certainly wasn't, that was clearly a training ground routine. Haven't gone zonal all season, but we suddenly do it when things were improving in the set piece department? I don't understand that change at all.

The late goal came from the constant tactical changes. We know Koulibaly cannot stand up against players in a 1v1 anymore, this is why he has the 2 cb's next to him, but Potter took one of them off and exposed Koulibaly right at the end.

That is more of a tactical error than a player error. It's not a good look for Koulibaly, but we have known of this weakness since the start of the season and adjusted our game to protect him, Potter threw it all out of the window right at the end.
I didn't necessarily understand the subs , but you can't blame tactics for weak goalkeeping at the end

End of the day 2 goals at home should be enough to beat sides who are rightly at the bottom end of the table.

We gifted them a way back in to the game on both occasions. They were not clever on either goal, it was just poor defending and goalkeeper.

We are used to being unhappy with our forwards, and midfielders, for not providing enough goals, however we 7 in the last 3 games, but we saw with the Bellingham sitter missed, the Debbie-Hall miss and Gallagher clearance, our defence and keeper is starting to show major issues.

If they repeat that in Madrid we will get spanked.

Benzema will have seen those recent issues and be like

Why not? He is ultimately responsible for everything including goalkeeper coaching. Having watched Brighton over the last ten years (very much! my second team) , I will say again 'We're On The Road To Nowhere' with Potter. Look at March for Brighton who has 18 goals on 242 appearances. 7 of these since De Zerbi took over. The turgid football we play only fools European teams and that's only because of our previous reputation.

The talk about individual errors versus coaching. Of course for any goal conceded there is usually an individual error somewhere. Individual players have certain weaknesses. But it’s up to the coach to get the odds in his team’s favour as much as possible, to diminish the possibility of weaknesses being exposed as far as possible. You have to ask yourself - did Potter’s decisions today shift the odds further in our favour or against us? I think it’s the latter, and I think hard to argue otherwise. But i’m still prepared to give him a chance - see how it looks by the end of the season. Nothing happening till then, at the earliest, on the coaching front anyway.

For all the flack Potter is being given on his substitutions (and I agree they weren't great) Kepa, Kaleidescape Kaliability, and Kai were absolute sh*tE in theast 10 minutes especially. Kai had two good chances and the headers he put on them were pathetic.

FREE DD FOFANA.

If we had a decent keeper we don't concede that 2nd goal.
Can't defend Kepa for that one, completely sloppy, but would hold Koulibaly to account as much. In fact that whole backline were AWOL! We are not set-up properly by a long way.

I've calmed down a bit now so feel safe to comment.  For the first 25-30 minutes I thought we moved the ball around well and were always looking to go forward, that was a positive sign that Potter might be changing things up and it was paying off.  An early goal in the 2nd half and it's starting to look good,  Felix looked lively and deserved that goal.

Then Potter takes Pulisic off who I thought was having a good game and the whole dynamic seems to change.  We are 1 nil up at home to a relegation threatened team and for some reason we try and go all defensive, thus inviting Everton to attack and the inevitable happens. We should be looking to extend our 1 goal lead, not defend it.

It's so bloody frustrating to watch.

This for me is the biggest concern. Kepa and Koulibaly are donkeys but they wouldn’t have been under such needless pressure had Potter not surrendered our dominance.

It was the passive/defensive nature of the subs as a group that encouraged the toffees. Taking off Pulisic and Felix and replacing them with two midfielders was just so defensive. I think chukwumeka will do well but not used like this. Pulisic played oki I guess but I still can’t see why he dropped Mudryk or even cucu. Ranieri tinkered less.

Sounds good.

Every goal conceded is an individual error somewhere. It's the foundation of the game. What the elite clubs do is employ elite personnel to drill structure and systems into their teams to limit the number of times these happen and to ensure that they have benefitted from the opposition committing more errors than they do.

Unfortunately we employ a guy who seems to have chance of discovery rocking horse sh*t than creating a free scoring team allied to a shockingly poor level of game management
