So 442 and tammy dropping deep to pick up the ball is how you get the best out werner, you basically ask him to don't get involve in the buildup and play on the shoulder. The problem this can only work in 442 and 4231 (the am cannot be Havertz, a healthy ruben will be good). But it mean you need your winger to defend better (not sure any of them are at least decent defensively)I missed the build-up, so I'm not sure how BBC had us lining up, but it looked like a 4-4-2 to me. Maybe a 4-4-1-1, but basically a 4-4-2 to my eyes. I thought it really worked. Tammy dropped deep to pick up the ball, and found himself in space because Werner was getting in behind the CBs and keeping them occupied. Pulisic kept the width (with James), and Ziyech was dropped into midfield to pick up the ball.
I can't let the forum down, I had to make the noble sacrificeOoh, we got so close...
?
Beautiful stat thereTammy is the first since Osgood that scored a hat-trick as an academy player in the FA Cup.
I worry about Tammy with this, too. His finishing is good (and improving), but time and time again he's a few yards off an easy finish and it hasn't changed for over a year. In the big games he might only get 1 or 2 chances, and at the moment I'm not confident he'd finish them. It almost feels like a lack of patience sometimes. He's occasionally too keen to get on the ball and gravitates to it when he should be finding space inside the box. Costa was excellent at this, he'd get himself involved in the build up, then as soon as we broke into space, he'd just find space inside the box and be ready to pounce.Much Happier with that performance, some good individual displays, Werner, Ziyech, Billy all done well.
Billy makes such a difference, always available and passes with a much better tempo which gets the whole team moving a lot more effectively.
James and Emerson were much more effective with a slightly different shape and combined well with the players in front of them.
Tammy done well with the goals but he has'nt got that naturel striker instinct, he scores but he does'nt sniff goals, like Vardy, Aguero etc he has to gamble more.
The thing that pleased me most was the reaction to Luton's goal, we could have easily got nervous and stopped the way we were playing but we did'nt, we kept moving it and kept creating chances which was very positive.
Onwards and upwards, back to back home games and a chance to build the confidence KTBFFH
Im afraid its a naturel thing Hessleboink, Predatory instincts of a striker. You can try and coach it, and strikers that dont have it can work on it to improve their game, but its a naturel thing.I worry about Tammy with this, too. Yeah that was a fantastic finish, I fund it strange more wasn't made of it. He has very little space to get it between the keeper and defender and it came to him of a deflection, it was outstanding.i was more impressed with his first time finish to open the scoring,
It just seems like such a waste to have somebody who can spot a pass and open up defences so easily played so deep. I'm not saying he should be played in attacking midfield or anything, but I don't think his career should be the Jorginho role either.I think the opposite, his best performances come when he's dictating from deep, whenever he's played higher up he's looked pretty ordinary.
Is it though? Cesc, Pirlo, Modric and Thiago are four top examples of players who made a career out of being a deeper player, infact they were actually wasted whenever they played higher up, not the other way round. It just seems like such a waste to have somebody who can spot a pass and open up defences so easily played so deep. He’s been solid the few times he’s played, but I think that he is not at the level of Chilwell and attacking-wise Alonso offered much more. We should look at getting a back up for Chilwell in summer, in my opinion. It always amazes me how barely Emerson gets mentioned in the match threads only ever if he was at fault for goal.
Missing the hunger and bravery from him.
Thiago, even from deep, is always looking to play a ball through to the attackers and set up a chance. He isn't just trying to control the tempo of the game from deep.Is it though? In the deeper positions you can dictate the entire tempo of a match.
